Weezy

Time :

As Karen notes below, Barack Obama crossed the pop culture/politics divide today by praising Lil' Wayne's rhyming ability at a campaign event in Powder Springs, Georgia. Before dismissing this development as trivia, consider that Lil' Wayne is both the most acclaimed rapper of 2008 and one of the biggest pop culture figures in the nation, with a song, Lollipop, that is #2 on the Billboard charts four months after its release and an album that sold 423,000 copies on its first day in stores. Add to this the fact that Weezy, as he sometimes calls himself, is perfectly willing to rap about politics, albeit crudely.

Take the lyrics of Lollipop, the aforementioned song which, if you have not yet heard on the radio, then your children certainly have. As is the habit of most modern Hip Hop, it is a song of sexual conquest, with Lil' Wayne boasting of his ability to attract women and enjoy their company. Not so interesting, you think? Check out this set of lyrical couplets.

What's with all the pictures of George Bush with a bone through his nose? How about equal time for our next president, Barack Obama?

It's a shame what we've become. We are a bunch of carnivores and the media is the hand that feeds us. Either the people must bit the hand that feeds us or the media must be more responsible in feeding us. Every chance the media get they feed red meat to the savages that consume this junk. There will be those who add Lil Wayne to the every growing list of weak associates that supposedly share the same idealody as Barack.

I think this is another story aimed at reminding people that Obama is black.

I guess they did change the headline because now it reads "Obama references Lil' Wayne".

It was more a reference to Lil Wayne's success.

only that his success is arbitrary, for every Lil Wayne, there's 100K more that dont make it. Thus the stay in school message.

this is real trivial.

"Maybe you are the next Lil' Wayne, but probably not, in which case you need to stay in school,"

but w/e they need to make a story i guess

Here is the reference as stated by Karen Tumulty which you do not include in your abovementioned article but you do include objectionable Lil Wayne lyrics.

"You are probably not that good a rapper. Maybe you are the next Lil' Wayne, but probably not, in which

case you need to stay in school," Obama, D-Ill., told a cheering crowd, brought to a standing ovation at a

town hall meeting in Powder Springs, Georgia.

"...they’d rather speculate before they informate, if that’s a word."

This headline is misleading because it does NOT include the reference that Obama allegedly made. Nor does the link provide provide a quote, soundbite or video clip or the Obama quote.

How did Obama praise Lil Wayne? What exactly did he say?

This has the makings of a headline and no facts.

Please update with relevant info or lose the headline. Huffpo are you just posting headlines with no relevant info now?

It's not just HuffPo...wtf is Time magazine doing trying to make this into a story? Have journalism schools lowered their standards for achieving degrees? Honestly, wtf is going on?

I'll try again; the mod. police are out in force. He did NOT praise Lil' Wayne at akk. In response to a woman's question/concerns re: the high drop out rate, O said that while some of you kids think you're going to play in the NBA, be a rapper, the "next Lil' Wayne," you're not. He strongly encouraged kids to stay in school and get an education!

I won't try again to post my other bit of MSM/MS N B C AM (reporter's) misrepresentation from yesterday's townhall but suffice it to say, they're out to twist and skew every word this man says.
