"I've been trying to exercise a little bit, which I'm told does wonders for a person."

With that line, Sen. Hillary Clinton drew the first of several laughs from the largely female crowd in attendance at her joint appearance with a comparatively less energetic Barack Obama Thursday morning at the Hilton Towers in New York City. Hosted by Women for Obama and the DNC's Women's Leadership Forum, the event was another pit stop on the "unity" tour that kicked off in New Hampshire two weeks ago.

And, at least as a speaker, Sen. Hillary Clinton proved that she is currently in tip-top shape. After noting that Obama told her she looked "rested" at an event last night, the New York Democrat admitted to reaping the benefits of a non-campaign schedule, but also showed she is still willing to bring some partisan fire and enthusiasm whenever she is invited to join him on the trail this fall.

On issues ranging from education to abortion rights to global warming, Clinton pointed to Obama as the superior candidate for women. On climate change, Clinton took a moment to mock President Bush by accusing him of just discovering the issue months before leaving office. "Gosh, this is a problem, and I sure hope the next president does something about it," Clinton said while impersonating the president -- adding, in her own voice, "well so do I!"

But beyond the yucks and the fired-up phrasing, the former presidential candidate did also take a moment to talk about the still-raw wounds dating from the primary season.

"Now I've had countless conversations since the end of my campaign," she began. "And I know how difficult it is for people who have invested their time, energy and emotion -- just their entire being -- into any campaign or cause. ... When it is over, I know how difficult that is ... how challenging it is to turn on a dime. It is a process. It does take time for people to take a deep breath, to go forward. ... But anyone who voted for me has so much in common with those who voted for Barack. ... It is critical that we join forces. The Democratic Party is a family -- sometimes a dysfunctional family -- but it is a family. We care about what is going to happen to health care [and education], and in Afghanistan in Iraq. ... That work cannot be done if we do not have a Democratic president in the White House!"

As she wrapped up her remarks and began to introduce Obama, Clinton said, "this is the man -- this is the one -- we should be voting for. ... Do it for your children. Do it for your jobs. Do it for the education of future generations."

At which point, the crowd of women (and a few scattered men) took up the "Yes We Can" chant. With close to 2,000 people paying $250 per head to participate in the latest display of unity, that meant a cool half million dollars in one morning's work for the Obama campaign.

UPDATE: Some AP video from the event:

If he had outshone her ,something he does at will and every time he wants to,the headline would have been "Obama still under minding Clinton". He is more happy now to give her some spot light,he is done with her already, where it matters.

O "forgot" to mention retiring HRC's debt at their joint fundraiser last night. He left the stage and had to be reminded by his aides. Guess Huffpo is too ashamed to even report on it.

http://tinyurl.com/69xl3b

His contributors have donated a measly $100,000 in five weeks to HRC.

I've been all for unity since her suspension, but after yesterday's FISA and this I'm officially done.

BTW, her debt will be paid off by next week by her supporters. We'll have raised more money in two weeks than O himself.

The gloves are off.

You're ignorant. There is another thread on the non-story about the fundraiser.

His contributors owe her nothing. Her debt was of her own making. Her 18 million supporters can handle it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 PM on 07/10/2008

Like I said, they are handling it. But in the process you can forget about "unity"...

And if anyone's ignorant, it's you, Olivia. Still HRC bashing at every opportunity while thinking your guy has a chance in h ell without our support.

You won't know what hit you in the coming weeks.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:43 PM on 07/10/2008

Agreed. If anyone is ignorant its you. Her 18 million supporters actually got her more of the votes in the primary than the empty vessal that is Barck Obama.

However, we MUST support him, even if it disgusts us, to keep from having another 8 years of the way things are now. all IGNORANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU WILL DO IS DISCOURAGE FOLKS FROM SUPPORTING HIM. FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO REALLY WANT UNITY, ITS FOLKS LIKE YOU WHO MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE.

Get over yourself. The hard feelings go both ways. clintons made the choice to run up that debt. Keep is all in perspective.

...and one other thing. Huffpost has been running the story of Obama forgetting to ask his supporters to help Clinton all morning. Open your eyes.

Well good for you... too bad your side couldn't pull that off when it mattered. Then again, considering you're just paying Billy&Hilly's loan to themselves back... I hope it makes you feel better.

The one thought that should motivates us is this: Waking up November 5 and the first thought is -- John McCain is president.

John McCain - who will opt for a 3rd war instead of diplomacy with Iran. The foreign policy of a bully and a dolt - "yeah - maybe cigarettes will kill em" and "bomb, bom Iran". As for understanding what it must be like for the Iranians to have America invading and occupying the two countries on each border of your country and threatening military action against you - hah!

John McCain - continuing 1.9 trillion in tax cuts for the uber-rich while taking weekly loans from China sinking our dollar.

John McCain - leaving the keys to the kingdom in the hands of Halliburton and KBR.

John McCain - forcing permanent bases on the Iraqis. And inviting foreign fighters with our presence who think nothing of blowing up innocents in their marketplaces. National Guardsman with families rotating to Iraq for a 18 months on an ongoing basis while crises such as the California wildfires and the Mississippi flooding will be stretched for manpower. 40% of our forces are NG.

John McCain - ensuring Phil Gramm and the lobbyists will hold the White House in its grip and will continue to protect the profits of overseas banks that made predatory loans and are now targeting senior citizens with reverse mortgages.

No - if I ever wonder why I should get involved in this campaign, I just think

Let's be mindful of all the Republicans posting here. They are using our blogs to spit out hatred and instil division within our ranks. Then at night you see them commenting on TV about the lack of unity within the democrats.
Be careful...now HUFFPO is using those titles to add more venom to the already strategy being pursued by the Repub. This is a distraction for them since they have nothing to offer to the American people....Forget about who outshine who...Forget about HRC and what she did and what she may possibly do at the convention (which she wont as in the end it would tarnish her political career)...LET'S FOCUS ON GETTING THE REPUBLICANS OUT AND VOTING IN A DEMOCRAT

Just one thing; can we call them by their real names? Neo-cons, right wing nuts, etc.

In respect to all the decent and 'real' Republicans who are supporting and will vote for Obama. And believe me there are a lot of them.

All right-wing, neo-cons are devious, ignorant, Hannity/Limpball/Rove like ignorant haters.

But not all Republicans are neo-cons.

OBAMA/?08!!!

when huffo published things favoring Obama, nobody complained, not even when they were clearly anti-Hillary, but you, Obama supporters, can't stand Huffo telling the truth about your candidate, perhaps they too are looking at the real candidate and they realize they might have made a mistake, or perhaps decided to tell the truth without compromises.
I imagine that, admit it or not, it must be hard for his followers to see someone who promised to be different to be just another ordinary politician, or perhaps worse than them, because he used a lie to gain votes and people. Huffo is, as many others, seeing the light, not the lantern running on bad batteries that Obama has used.

Please. Speaking for myself, I don't need Huff, CNN, MSNBC, FOX or any other news network to tell me how to feel about my candidate. Just give me the facts and I will tell you how I feel about it. And damn right I'm going to defend my candidate. Just like they defended and still defend Dubya. Or did you not get the message that BHO's supporters are the educated elite? Try again.

I think that headlines like this should be OVER; the primary is finished, and so is her bid for the presidency. Of course, she will continue to try to upstage him, as the "revenge" factor is most prominent now. She's making every effort to salvage her political career so as to be able to "beat" him in some other way, as well as build up her base for another presidential run (or some other publicity-grabbing position) in the future. She is not about to take her loss gracefully and retreat back into the irrelevancy that was her senate career.

Anyone who actually believes she is "supporting" him, is out in the ozone.

Her FISA vote was a challenge to Obama. She would have voted "yes" if she was the candidate.

She hasn't conceded.

She hasn't released her delegates.

She will destroy the party in Denver, and never look back.

you know something? i just dont agree with that.obama is a compromise animal. hillary is a partisan animal. thats just who they are. i dont think hillary was challenging barack to anything. she isnt running for president so she can afford to be as partisan as she likes.obama doesnt have that luxury. and frankly i think its good that hillary is pursuing party agenda cos she needs to get back into democrat good books, especially within the senate.

HUH?? WTF? Ok Huffington Post, what are you doing trying to keep this mess and derived drummed up division in the democatic party? the democratic party is UNITED. not 100% but 85% no matter what Hillary do or say there still going to be those racist people that will not vote for Obama just because he is black, I know there people who are saying thats a wrong accesment to put on people who do not vote for him, well it was a razor thin difference between Hillary and Obama on the issues so if your vote is not on issues then its on something superficial as race.
