McCain Changes POW Story For Local Sports Team

Asked what first comes to his mind when he thinks of Pittsburgh, McCain chuckled, "the Steelers. I was a mediocre high school athlete but I loved and adored the sports but the Steelers really made a huge impression on me particularly in my early years."

And then McCain told a rather moving story about his time as a P.O.W. "When I was first interrogated and really had to give some information because of the pressures, physical pressures on me, I named the starting lineup, defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers as my squadron mates."

...

"Could you do it today?" asked the reporter.

"No, unfortunately," McCain said.

Here's one reason he likely couldn't do it today -- the Steelers aren't the team whose defensive line McCain named for his Vietnamese tormentors. The Green Bay Packers are. At least according to every previous time McCain has told this story. And the McCain campaign just told ABC News that the senator made a mistake -- it was, indeed, the Packers.

I think it's early onset Alzheimer's.

Ooops! Which was it? This rates up there with the Bosnian tale. May be even worse, come to think of it. Did the incident really happen? What did he really tell them? Of course the media is giving him a pass, again! When Obama spoke of his grand-uncle, the media jumped all over him. Now? Not a squeak.

Way to hit Packer fans with an egregious insult on a day they were in pain and misery over the news Brett Favre wants to play elsewhere. Timing is everything...

From here on out I shall always think of McCain as the Weatherman-both his memory and his opinions are totally unpredictable and continuously changing .As well, his " forecasts"-economic and otherwise- are totally unreliable!(Didn't Carlin do a schtick about the hippy-dippy weatherman years ago?)

If only it had been the Detroit Lions that McCain had named. They never get a break.

I'm getting up there myself and the guys that made an impression on me were Carl Eller, Alan Page, Gary Larson and Jim Marshall and this is how they lined up. What's so tough about that? Johnny you little fibber.

Oh give the guy a break. He wasn't pandering. It was an honest mistake. He had a senior moment.

Get a clue! He is a liar. He is published in two different books that he supposedly wrote stating it was the Green Bay Packers. Quit giving this behavior a pass and learn to call a spade a spade.

What he forgot was that he wrote a book. Therefore lying becomes more complicated.

If McCain was a true fan of either team, I doubt he would forget which team he was a fan of. Also, if he repeated the names of the defensive line under duress; those names would probably be seared into your memory. He couldn't even come up with a single name of any of the football players he claimed to recite as members of his squad?

Makes you wonder if the story was true in the first place, doesn't it? Or if had started his "I am a hero, I made myself a hero"-mythology already, back then...

"Senator, on July 10th you told the now-familiar story about being a POW but said you imagined the Steelers instead of the Packers as you always have before.

Was this change made because you are getting senile, or because you were pandering to the Pennsylvania audience, or were you just LYING?"

There's a question you will never hear the MSM ask.

The MSM spends its time questioning the significance of every word uttered by Obama and whether he has "flip flopped" while McCain wanders from state to state telling one lie after another without critical comment. Why? Because he is a war hero of course.

Is this McCain's "Bosnia Sniper Fire" account? Is the 'Straight Talk Express' pandering and lying about his service record? Good Lord, who could forget what team you used in a Prisoner of War account you have written about and talked about for the past 40 years? This guy is either a chronic liar or he is really losing his mental capacities and which is worse? I can't believe this isn't getting more play by the media. This isn't just some sports analogy, this is who he claims to be, this is worse than Hillary because McCain's complete campaign is based on his war time record and being able to keep the USA safe. I have never seen a candidate who was so poorly prepared or unable to keep things straight. Lucky for McCain the media just won't hold him accountable.

The thing that really puts the lie to McCain's story was that the Steelers of the 1960's sucked. I mean, they were a joke. They won just four games the year McCain was shot down (1967) and only five the year before that. The Steel Curtain really didn't come to be until around 1971. So I doubt that he even knew about the Steelers improved fortunes until he came home.

Is he a liar or is he really losing his mind? I can't tell.

He's a republican. Republicans are unhappy, angry liars.
