ABC's Political Punch:

Asked what first comes to his mind when he thinks of Pittsburgh, McCain chuckled, "the Steelers. I was a mediocre high school athlete but I loved and adored the sports but the Steelers really made a huge impression on me particularly in my early years."

And then McCain told a rather moving story about his time as a P.O.W. "When I was first interrogated and really had to give some information because of the pressures, physical pressures on me, I named the starting lineup, defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers as my squadron mates."

...

"Could you do it today?" asked the reporter.

"No, unfortunately," McCain said.

Here's one reason he likely couldn't do it today -- the Steelers aren't the team whose defensive line McCain named for his Vietnamese tormentors. The Green Bay Packers are. At least according to every previous time McCain has told this story. And the McCain campaign just told ABC News that the senator made a mistake -- it was, indeed, the Packers.

Is it dementia as I suspect or false memories where he lied to begin with? Either way it does give us pause doesn't it when he cannot remember the POW events he uses when he can but talks like he thinks it "too painful" to talk about. Call it pander or call it dementia to be nice but he should think more about his memories when he forgets we have video to remind everyone what he actually said before he said he didn't .

Not to mention that the Steelers SUCKED when McCain got shot down. No one IN Pittsburgh could name the OL then.

If this had been Hillary, it would dominate the news cycle.

Chris Matthews: Is Hillary Clinton using her time as a POW to appeal for the "sports vote"? Also, is she making deliberate false statements to appeal for that vote? Which team did she actually name to her Vietnamese captors? How many teams did she actually tell this story to, and how often did the FACTS shift? And does all of this make her war record FAIR GAME? We'll have answers to these questions an the Hardball Big Number, next on Hardball!

If Mcbrainless really can't remember what happened during the most emotionally tramautic time in his life, he really is losing his marbles. (bearings) More likely, he's just saying whatever comes to mind, not really aware of the internet or video. At this rate, we might see someone else come out of the convention as the nominee....

Let's see: in just one week's time McCain has "forgotten" how he voted on Veterans issues since 2003, has "forgotten" how he voted on a major issue for women and health insurance, has "forgotten" what he thinks about condoms and STDs, has "forgotten" how he voted on legislation concerning Katrina recovery aid (OK, that one goes back a couple of weeks) - draw your conclusions. But the video moment of McCain trying to dig up something to say about the Viagra question is his equivalent of the My Pet Goat moment for Bush. Video, video, video....

In all fairness, it was a *LONG* tima ago.

But not as long ago as the 1948 Cleveland Indians! I guess I have a better memory than John McCain -- why should that surprise anyone.

Which is all the more reason this man is not fit to be POTUS.

If he forgets the details of a story he's probably told a thousand times... Or if was pandering... or just flat out lied... I'm not sure which is worse.

But if he is as forgetful, and out of touch with reality as he seems... He is most definitely not qualified to be President.

I'd much rather have a President that eager and capable of expanding his knowledge as opposed to one that can barely remember his own life experiences and is incapable of learning.

And the next time he's in New Orleans, it'll be the Saints, and in Florida, it'll be the Panthers, and in New York, it'll be the Giants. And, so on, and so on....

How many "mistakes" can this man make before the MSM starts noticing, or points them out as mistakes and not "endearing traits".

I can't imagine what would happen to what's left of our country if McCain somehow, with lobbyists' and swiftboaters' money, or election fraud yet again, steals the election. How on earth has he become the chosen candidate for the Republican Party? His views, especially on war, really worry me even though we're a military family. and proud of our soldiers. I will vote for Obama this time around. He's smart , sensible, and cool under pressure, whereas McCain tends to blink his eyes, giggle, tell "cutesy" jokes, make dumb comments, and stretch the truth whenever it suits him. McCain sounds and looks like Bush all over again.)
