Perhaps President Bush has been paying attention to all the bad press his climate policies have received. Before leaving the G8 this week, The Independent reports Bush "told his fellow leaders: 'Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter.'"

President Bush made the private joke in the summit's closing session, senior sources said yesterday. His remarks were taken as a two-fingered salute from the President from Texas who is wedded to the oil industry. He had given some ground at the summit by saying he would "seriously consider" a 50 per cent cut in carbon emissions by 2050.

But green groups had protested that the meeting was a missed opportunity to secure the radical reductions in carbon emissions that were needed to reduce global warming. China and India, who were among the emerging economies invited to the summit, refused to sign up to binding agreements without firmer commitments from the US and the other industrialised nations to cut their CO2 emissions.

For a bit of the science and the politics, I suggest reading the Draft Report on Climate Change by the Garnaut Review in Australia and watching some highlights of a briefing on A Taste of Garnaut: the Climate Challenge. Both can be accessed through my Australian blog: Labor

I'm sure everyone appreciated that he was saying goodbye.

(These last 7.5 years have proven that money does not buy class, nor good manners; also that money spent at Yale and Harvard Business School is not necessarily well spent.)

The US actually produces far less pollution than China, India, Russia et al when measured by what it produces. When you produce the most things you will use energy to do it.

Make nothing and do nothing seems to be what these globalwarminmongers want.

Sure - that's it. That's what their hidden agenda is, those dastardly globalwarminmongers.

They think they're so smart, but they're not. I can see through them too, kingcity.

They just want everyone to make nothing and do nothing!

All that stuff about actually caring about what kind of a planet we pass along to our kids - that's just stupid. My kids will be lucky if I leave them the Hummer.

Bush is just a lookout boy . All serious actions were committed by Cheney's organization with consensus of the key players and the Media. So, do not be too harsh on him, save the passion for much bigger crooks.

If Bush decides on a third term, he's got my vote.

That may happen if he declares martial law after invading Iran. Your wish may come true...

I had thought of that as well. At least Nixon had the good grace to resign. This guy came to power in a soft coup d'etat. He obviously is capable of anything and everything.

Bush's remark speaks to something more disturbing than the obvious childish arrogance it evinces, and that is a smug indifference, really a reveling in thumbing his nose at what he sees as the concerns or opinions of others on important issues. There is a pattern here. Remembers the unbelievably inappropriate "joke" pictures of Bush on his hands and knees searching for WMD's in the Oval Office, that he proudly displayed at a National Press Club dinner, or some similar event? I think that incident and this are very similar in terms of what they reveal about Bush's psychological make-up and character.

Eight years of the life of our country totally wasted.

I can just see the slime dripping off of Bush. Let me consider cutting emissions is what he says. What a joke. I mean seriously are ideas like "USDA Approves Beef Based Bio Fuel," presented by DFT News going to have to be taken seriously? I hope it doesn't come to that.

I am loving how he was so sheltered and could do no wrong for 7 years now everyone bar none groans when he speaks. What happened to the line "What the President is saying here is? We know what the idiot was saying, he just said it.

Now, we seem so taken aback. "Do you wanna buy some wood?, "Fool me once can't get fooled again?". And now we have someone running, who thinks we are psycho's, because we are wondering how to feed our kids and still have enough left over to get to that stank job that was not shipped overseas.

So stop your whining about this dummy.
