Sacha Baron Cohen and fiancee Isla Fisher have been forced to postpone their wedding over religious issues, MailOnline has learned.

The Hollywood-based couple, who welcomed a daughter last year, originally planned to tie the knot later this summer.

But they have decided to delay the nuptials because Isla, 32, has yet to convert to the Ali G star's faith of Judaism.

Why don't people in Hollywood ever get married and THEN have a child? Ethan Hawke just married his pregnant former nanny. Naomi Watts and Liev Schriber are having their second child and never got married. What's up with this? I don't mean to be a prude, but I think you should be married if you want to have children.

Religion??? These medieval zealots must re-read George Carlin's monologues and learn to be decent husbands and fathers. Apparently nobody sent him a memo about the fairytales.

Yeah, for all his sexual antics, I think SBC may have a truly conservative religious side.

Personally, I don't understand it and my parents were religious.

With men and women, does you think that men should marry only one woman? Does you believe in mahogany?

Let's see,

1. let's have a child first and then see how the conversion attempts go.

2. Let's have a child first, and then decide we don't want to marry because of religious differences. Talk about religious fanaticism.

When the mother is Jewish, the child is Jewish. Simply an anachronistic mythology driven hoop for the lady to jump through.
She should take the child and tell borat where to send the cheques.

Corollary: when the mother is not Jewish, the child is not Jewish.
Corollary II: when the mother is only a convert, the child will be just a second-class Jew, never a "real" Jew.

I never much appreciated Sacha Baron Cohen's exploitation racial humor. He make a mockery of hip hop and Caribbean cultures in a particularly disrespectful manner. Then he turned his ire to a small country in Asia. It seemed like a mean spirited cheap gimmick, that probably would have been labeled as racist if he were not Jewish. There is no conspiracy, it is just the presumption that minorities are entitled to racial humor, like the "Mind of Mencia" which is driven entirely by ethnic humor from a Hispanic. If Mencia were a white guy he could not possible get away with what he does. There were rumors that Dave Chapel refused to continue disparaging racial humor and chose to quit because of that.

Sacha Baron Cohen in my opinion is a bit of a problem. It is humor at the expense of other cultures which he ridicules on the premise they are inferior morons. It is ugly, it has an evil tinge to it we ought not support that kind of thing. Multiculturalism is hard, we have to respect and tolerate people different from us, people like him are not helping the process they are exploiting bigotries.

Grow up and lose your delicate sensibilities. A comedian can get away with saying pretty much anything as long as people think it is funny.

Cohen is obnoxious, not funny. Thought you might like to know.

I did grow up, I am not apart of either group stereotyped by Sacha Baron Cohen but i have enough compassion and sympathy to respect them. You are probably a white male happy you are accepted as the norm in your community, meanwhile a lot of people are struggling to be accepted. They don't need to be ridiculed in a way that would be frowned upon by a school teacher. We don't want our kids laughing and pointing at people in turbans so we should not portray vast communities a buffoons unworthy of respect in our mass media. That would be a measure of maturity in our civilization. Is it that hard to find something else to laugh at?

Seriously, we are in the era of globalization we need to respect each others differences. Arrogance breeds bigotry and that is at the heart of this kind of degrading humor.

All three of the big western monotheistic religions are historically and inherently sexist. The more orthodox/fundamentalist they are, the more sexist they are. Being surprised that a good orthodox Jewish mom has "traditional" views about women's roles seems foolish. Being surprised that not everyone born into a faith is actually interested in it also seems naive. If she wants to convert to please her partner and his parents, fine by me, but Mrs. Cohen senior shouldn't expect her new daughter-in-law to be more enthusiastic than happycat.

Conversion to any religion should be an imperative from the heart, not from a future extended family.

No man is worth such hassle.

Couldn't agree with you more, piul05, but that's you and me. Isla can make her own choices. If she wants to buy into her partner's religion in the interests of their child or true love or whatever, that's her business.

Why does Isla Fisher have to convert to marry? There are plenty of cases where marriages between different religioius backgrounds have gone ahead without a hitch. Lost a little respect for Borat...

I think he is truly conservative and, perhaps, very religious. With all his sexual stuff, I don't get it.

It's hard enough being a new mom. I feel sorry for Isla Fischer b/c she will be stuck with an over bearing mother-in law. I unfortunately am stuck with one of those myself. My husband's mother always has something to say, and it is usually nothing nice. On the other matter, I was raised Jewish, but I can't stomach the idea of studying the Torah and Hebrew. You can't be forced to learn that stuff. It is something you have to have the desire to study.

Perhaps what I was trying to say came out wrong. I found studying the Torah and Hebrew extremely boring and it was part of my culture. Obviously my heart wasn't in it, which might be Fisher's problem also.
