Fox News desperately needs a fact checker in its graphics department. MSNBC's David Shuster caught this gem from a Fox report on the Iranian missile tests. The graphic that Fox used to identify the Strait of Hormuz put the strait in the wrong location, and misspelled "strait." For good measure, the Fox reporter also mispronounced "Hormuz."

Watch it (the segment is about two minutes into the video).

I'm sure most of the viewers of Faux didn't know the difference. They have already proven that they aren't scholars of history either with the gaffe about the Lincoln Douglas debates.

This is because Faux News does not report the news or facts. It reports the conventional wisdom or pre-conceived ideas of the 23-percenters.

They add an "e" to words because that's how they spell "potatoe."

They pronouce it wrong because why shoud anyone care about pronoucing Arab things right?

They point the arrow to the wrong area because that area is closer to Israel and therefore makes the need to go nuclear more real to them.

Is anyone getting tired of all of these so-called news organizations who spend more time bashing other networks than they do actually reporting the news. Could you imagine a time when Walter Cronkite would devote 5 minutes of his program to pointing out the mistakes that NBC or ABC had made? I'm sure that he wouldn't have believed that doing so would give him more credibility, but that seems to be exactly how these cable "news" shows feel. I realize that these are more tabloid based news shows, but the sad thing is that they seem to be more popular today than the more "boring" traditional network shows.

I don't need people to tell me why I should be watching MSNBC and not FOX news. I am smart enough to figure that out for myself and I have no interest in what is being broadcast on FOX. The problem with gloating over the mistakes of another network, is that it is inevitable that you will make mistakes of your own. It seems almost childish.

Then why do you listen to Rush Limpbaugh?? It wasn't MSNBC that started all this mess, it was Fox News and the right wing fascists of talk radio. MSNBC is just giving them a taste of their own medicine and kicking their asses with the information at the same time. "Fair and balanced" sure makes lots of unfair and unbalanced reporting, wouldn't you agree?? ;)

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh. Where did that goofy statement come from? MSNBC doesn't just go after FOX, they point out mistakes by CNN also. It isn't a "taste of their own medicine" issue. Do you even watch these shows? They are all battling each other instead of just reporting the damn news.

Why do you even care what FOX reports if you don't watch them? You legitimize them when you give them this kind of importance. They don't have a legitimate and unbiased news report, so why are you shocked when they say something that is completely geared toward their audience? Why not just ignore them and take away their importance. They aren't going to sway voters with what they say. The vote of their audience is already cut in stone. Anytime they are mentioned by another network or on a site like this, it's a win for them. They have reached an audience who wouldn't normally pay them any attention.

Could this be the product of the state of education in the US? Or is this symptomatic of a nation who's president never set foot outside the US before becoming president?

Yep--it's the faith-based crowd (and I don't mean religious faith). No amount of video documentation would ever matter.

That's exactly right, Grannysue. I have an aunt who swears that everything Fox says is absolutely the TRUTH because it comes straight from "Lexis-Nexis". She says regular people can't get their news there so we need Fox to interpret it for us. And the rest of the Internet is ALL LIES.

Is anyone with brain cell activity still watching FIXed News? Is anyone still under the delusion that FIXed News is a legitimate news organization? Can anyone who works for, or is affiliated with FIXed News locate their backsides with both hands, a compass, and a guide dog? Try that first guys...if sucessful, move on to the world map. Baby steps are still progress.

Perhaps you're right. But I have that particular book on hold at Barnes&Noble. When I can afford the $29.95, I'll send for it. Would like to know what Mr. McClellan saw and heard. Would also like to know if it's "the whole truth and nothing but the truth". There are lots of books written about Bush out there. Go to Barnes&Noble, or any other internet book store and just type in "Bush". Mr. McClellan's book is probably about the 10th book written.

Laughable? I disagree. FOX is criminal. I thought there were "truth in advertising" laws on the books somewhere. O'Reilly's constant claim on ads for his show that scream "no spin zone" should be illegal. His is the original and most blatantly "spin" show on TV.

Religious FAUX viewers could probably care less, since most of them live in a news world whose limits are defined by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Such a thing as even elementary geography and its historical concomitants means little to them. Most of them probably have a Ptolemaic view of geopolitics anyway-except, instead of the planets revolving around the earth-the earth revolves around the "good old USA" , or its erstwhile allies such as Israel, or maybe the UK when it behaves itself. Everything else is a terra incognita filled with menacing Muslim Jihadists, illegal aliens and communists. Ronald Reagan is the central figure in history, and whatever went on before his trickle down tax cuts, star wars and tearing down walls is merely prologue.

If you noticed, Israel and Iran are written in large letters on the map with no mention of Iraq or Afghanistan. Israel had nothing to do with the story other than the ability of one of the tested missiles is reported to be able to reach Israel but Israel on the map looks like it is right next door to Iran instead of 2 countries away (or 3 countries from the southern tip of Israel).

So far only one poster noted that MSNBC newscaster Schuster erred in a manner that makes FOX News' gaffe seem merely incompetent. The Iranians did not strike anyone with their missles; they publically tested them. FOX News is transparent by now; everyone knows they are the conservative Pravda for ditto heads, America's own Bagdhad Bobbing Heads; but MSNBC is a bit more pernicious in that it tries to pass for liberal, while often sending a message that subliminally supports the same conservative line of bs.

Yes--I have noticed this, in the sense that I've seen an MSNBC anchor interviewing some rightwing gasbag who is saying "Obama will raise your taxes" or some other lie in their diatribe, and the anchor will close the interview with "I agree" and move on.

11 July 2008
"The US vowed to defend Israel and its other allies in the Gulf, as Iran carried out its second ballistic missile test in two days yesterday.
As the situation worsened in the Gulf, the French oil company Total said it would pull out of a large-scale investment in an Iranian gas field - a serious blow to Tehran, which is keen to exploit its gas reserves, and a victory for the Bush administration, which has been seeking to isolate the Iranian government.
A spokeswoman for the company said it was too risky to invest in Iran at present. "

Ok - Now rewind back a few weeks ago - Lookie here - who is getting to suck up some Iraqi oil *
WASHINGTON, June 20 (RIA Novosti) - The Iraqi government is to sign over 30 contracts for lucrative oil deals with major Western oil companies before the end of June, leaving Russian companies out in the cold, a U.S. daily has cited a spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry as saying.
The two-year, no-bid contracts will be awarded to companies that have been acting in advisory roles to the Iraqi Oil Ministry in recent years. Five oil companies- the U.S.-based Exxon Mobil and Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, France's Total and the British oil company BP- are expected to secure the biggest contracts to develop Iraq's vast oil resources.
Their offers defeated offers from companies based in Russia, China and India.

I hope this isn't true about France's Total. Anybody remember what happened on 8 December 1941? Remember what caused this? The US put an embargo on oil to Japan. I know why we put up the embargo and agree with it; but look what happened. Let's not let Bush and company box Iran into a corner.
