Jack Black's new flick, "Tropic Thunder" is set to hit theaters on August 15, and the most recent issue of Blender magazine features an interview with the 28-year-old actor. In the movie, Black plays a character who is forced to go through with withdrawal, and so, naturally, the conversation turned to Black's myriad drug use.

On his early exposure to hard drugs:

In ninth grade, I did acid and cocaine. I wanted desperately to be an American badass. There's something so romantic, when you're a kid, about being a criminal. You want to belong to the tough-guy club. Running from the cops. Hiding in the bushes. Making schemes and plans to get it over on the Man.

On heroin:

Somebody gave me a small amount of it in an envelope and I kept it for months. I didn't want to use it, but I didn't want to throw it away, either, because I was always curious about it.

My girlfriend at the time was there, and I snorted it, but she didn't know I did it. It didn't agree with me. I couldn't really feel my legs, and my heart felt like it was slowing down too much. I thought, Oh, my God, it's just going to shut me down. I'm going to die. So I told my girlfriend, "I'm going to take a walk." I went down to the 7-Eleven at the bottom of the hill, and I had this strange sensation that my legs were pumping, but the feet were just sort of lifeless stumps. I did a little shopping and then walked back up the hill and survived. And never did it again.

On weed:

There is an occasional celebratory jay, but it's not a wake-and-bake scenario anymore at all. And no cigarettes. To help stop, I took Wellbutrin for two years, and then I stopped the Wellbutrin before Tropic Thunder. They say you've got to be careful quitting Wellbutrin because some people have withdrawal symptoms. And I was like, "Good! That's the movie. That's what I need! Withdrawal symptoms!" I didn't have shakes and crazy quakes--it feels like your brain is sucking in on itself, like there's a small black hole in the center of your brain galaxy. But it only lasted for a couple of weeks, and then I was back to normal.

On withdrawal:

I've never had to detox.

How is this guy a star? He has one shtick he does over and over! "Chubby hyperactive guy" is enough to get you into the movies? God help us.

Another example of why the drug war is stupid.
.
Most people do just fine.

It would have been a great loss to lock him up for drugs.

"It would have been a great loss to lock him up for drugs."

Really? Of which great humanitarian feat or literary masterpiece would the world have been deprived if he had been locked up?

Every harmless person who is incarcerated is a great loss to society.
.
We are becoming a harsh vindictive fascist country. We have the highest incarceration rates in the world because of the War on Some Drugs. We look the other way while gang stalkers poison people.
.
It all adds up to a profound social decline.

Tiff, I'd bet Jack Black has contributed a lot more to a lot more people than you ever will. He is a comedy and musical genius and does tons of charity work. These drug "revelations" are pretty lame. Who would have suspected he only did acid once?

I don't understand why actors, who are doing well in their careers, need to come clean about past drug use. What good does it do him, or us in the movie going public?

Jack Black is a crazy man, but I bet he is a great father to his kid and he sure loves his music. The movie Orange County was the first movie I seen him in and realized who he was and thought he was over the top. I'm glad he didn't become another Hollywood tragedy with the drugs.

My son loves Jack Black, and his friends all agree his movies are cool.
Jack was very good in ' The Holiday" and I thought he was just excellent in King Kong, the remake.
He has the teenagers looking up to him, and it's a good thing he doesn't use drugs anymore.

What does, "There is an occasional celebratory jay..." mean to you?

'Cause it means something to me, and it's not a bird."

He's a brilliantly funny guy and a serious person who apparently cares quite a bit about political and social issues. If you don't care for an actor nor "get" him,why blog that? What does that say about you?

I used Wellbutrin for a little while to help quit smoking. It has a strange effect. It confuses the hell out of that certain part of your brain that keeps telling you to go smoke. This drug simply screws your head up with white noise, making certain tasks difficult.
I hated it, but I did quit smoking, for a while.
Having a kid makes you stop smoking. If you are a good parent and you give a damn.

I wonder if that is what W is on? He's on something, that's for sure, with all that tap dancing and smiling.

Okay. So he tried drugs. Typical, very typical story he has. And its no surprise.

JB is a very talented actor, albeit apparently very limited in the range of roles in which he fits.

"very limited in the range of roles in which he fits."

Let time tell how limited he is. From what I've seen he's got potential to do serious stuff.

I should've said "comic actor" and he is great at that. "Hi Fidelity", "School of Rock" and others, he cracks me up. But he was pretty awful in "King Kong" as an "actor" trying a normal part, he was highly unconvincing. Naomi Watts saved that film as usual, she 's so great.
My comment before was lame I know MK, but I'm tired of articles about people's past drug use. It doesn't amount to much in the here and now.
I took some acid years ago and rode my Vespa all around Los Angeles for 15hrs straight..
Another time I did the same but stayed indoors with my girlfriend and look at me now, I'm happily sharing a story with you even though you don't care,
Cheers,
mondobleu

You think he's just a comic? Ummmm, he's got one of the best voices in ROCK! He's done dramas also. Just a comic? No. No, YOU'RE just a comic.

Jack Black is a modern day renaissance man.
