McCain Divorce Account Contradicts Court Documents

McCain, who is about to become the GOP nominee, has made several statements about how he divorced Carol and married Hensley that conflict with the public record.

In his 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.

"I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow," McCain wrote. "I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980."

An examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had "cohabited" until Jan. 7 of that year -- or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.

Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife.

We are glad that the news is finally getting out about the McCain/Hensley marriage. It is about time! We found out that McCain's account of his divorce/marriage didn't add up, a few years ago or when he ran for prez the last time.

When I look at the original McCain family, I see happy kids and his wife looks fine. The reports that she was severly disfigured or something don't seem to be right. I guess McCain wants to redefine family values. He had a it good, a faithful wife and a loving family... What does that say about his politics... does he have a faithful constituency and a loving republican family? how will he treat them?

Starting another war in Iran while we're bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn't matter. Leaving U.S. citizens on their roofs to drown doesn't matter. Watching from Europe as Americans are washed away in floods or have everything burned in fires is ok. Stretching our military so thin that a soldier has 4 or 5 tours with virtually no rest is ok. Then refusing to acknowledge his PTSD when finally comes home is just fine. Calling us mentally ill because we don't like our gas to cost four times what it did a few years ago is a-ok.

you can think you know a person , read all the 'facts' about their lives and you still won't truly know who someone is.
everyone in this world we live in, have 'issues' that we all deal with...we don't know what went on between John McCain, Carol, Hensley, etc....what we do know is that liberals claim to be 'non judmental' and all conservatives are 'liars' we all know that is not the case.

McCain often forgets the facts. While it may not be due to age, it should cause voters to pause. If he forgot that he cheated on his first wife, forgot how long he courted Cindy, we can forgive him. But he keeps forgetting the difference between Sunni and Shiite, between Al Qaeda and all other extremists and between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As a true fan of the Steelers, and a former Pittsburgh resident, this is unforgivable.

His first wife Carol is a lovely lady and even his schoolmates from the Naval Academy think he was a scum for what he did to her. She lives in my hometown, quiet and peacefully. She stays out of the limelight and has never remarried. She spends many days enjoying Virginia Beach and the wonderful people who live there.

Can we see this marriage license? Marriage licenses ask for past marriages, divorce or death dates. Did he lie on the application? If he were truthful at the time of application and stated that he was presently married, he wouldn't have been given a license to marry. How did this happen?

When I applied for my marriage license for my second marriage, the form just asked me how many previous marriages I had and the year of my divorce. I brought with me the paperwork from my divorce, asked the clerk if she needed to see it and she told me no. If he was only required to list the year of his divorce, then that's how it happened. My ex-husband remarried in the same year as our divorce, so it's not unheard of to divorce and remarry in the same year.

Although it is kind of tacky to apply for the marriage license to the homewrecker while you're still married to the accident victim.
