McCain Divorce Account Contradicts Court Documents

LA Times:

McCain, who is about to become the GOP nominee, has made several statements about how he divorced Carol and married Hensley that conflict with the public record.

In his 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.

"I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow," McCain wrote. "I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980."

An examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had "cohabited" until Jan. 7 of that year -- or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.

Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife.

Having been through a 3 year (non-adjudicated) separation, various changes of relationship with my ex-spouse, and then a mediated _divorce with various papers filings in the last year, I couldn't tell you dates on just about anything. I am not a j_ohn mc_cain supporter, but this all seems pretty t_rite, and doesn't really seem germane to his fitness as P_resident. Aren't the same folks that are wh_ining about this the same folks that didn't have a problem with the P_resident not being clear on what the definition of "is" was, when it concerned extra_-marital affairs?

Well, I feel sure people know whether they are married or divorced at the time they fill out an application for a marriage license. They don't allow married people to apply for a marriage license. When you apply for a marriage license they ask pretty specifically if you are divorced, widowed, or never married. Did he lie on the application?

As to your memory problems it is too bad if you cannot remember however if McCain didn't know he was married when he applied to his new marriage license he is too dumb to be president. I don't really think he is that dumb, I think he was just a liar. You will undoubtedly vote for the man who has a new lie every day. Today whose names he gave to the North Vietnamese, Yesterday he lied about veterans organizations supporting him and giving him a 100% rating when they actually gave him a 20%, the day before he lied about supporting the Educational benefits bill for the military when he had fiercely opposed it. He just can't keep his story straight. I wonder if his lie on his marriage application renders his marriage invalid? It is germane to his fitness because with a liar you really have no idea what you are electing. I suspect all you call germane is that he has an R behind his name.

That photo of McCain "kissing" is pretty awful. He looks like he is looking out into space. I just can't imagine how he got the reputation of being a womanizer.

Cindy wasn't treated very well by McCain either. He wasn't with her while she went through two miscarriages. He wasn't by her side as she rehabilitated herself after having a stroke and had to relearn how to walk. In her own recent interview, she talks about how she stayed with friends in CA with their children. I believe that Carol was better off without him, even though it had to hurt to be abandoned by the husband she was devoted to while he was a POW.

If men can't get it up it is a medical condition. However if women take birth control pills for medical reasons it is not covered. Birth control pills are used for several medical conditions some of which are actually life threatening unrelated to reproduction, and McCain voted against their being covered. To be honest considering that he also voted against equal pay for women I think we know where his mind is. Men and their enjoyment got to cover that, women and their health no way. No need to pay them the same either.
