Washington Independent:

In a sign of continued weakness in his home state, an online poll shows Sen. John McCain trailing Sen. Barack Obama by 3-percentage points in Arizona. The poll also shows the candidacy of Libertarian Bob Barr is having a significant impact on McCain's campaign by siphoning off conservative voters nationwide.

The Arizona poll was part of nationwide Zogby International poll that put Obama ahead in total electoral votes with 273 to 160 for McCain. The poll found 11 states with 105 electoral votes too close to call -- including Arizona. McCain's campaign in June included Arizona among its list of swing states.

(Matt Mahurin) McCain not only faced problems with Independent voters, he is losing a small, but potentially lethal voting block of the GOP right to Barr. The former Republican congressman from Georgia is pulling just enough voters in many states to shift the balance to Obama. Whether this bloc will remain in Barr's camp on election day could determine the outcome.

Wouldn't it be sweet revenge if Barr turns out to be the GOP's Nader?

That's exactly what I am hoping for. My mom and her conservative friends and family *hate* McCain and can't force themselves to vote for *that* "black man." So I have been pusing Barr to them. They seem to be falling for it. LOL

I guess it is upsetting to those in AZ to discover that Johnnieboy can't remember what he voted for in the Senate, didn't read the bills, or just didn't show up (and thinks he did).

if its one thing i learned from the primary season is never to trust polls. That said, this is very encouraging news for Obama. He should start looking at Arizona seriously.

The exact numbers are not as important as the trends.
What makes you think he isn't already looking at every state seriously?

Love it!!! One question though will the MSM make a bid deal out of it????? Hell no, they'll casually mention it. Now, I as (2nd question) IF Obama was 3 point behind in his home state of Illinois, ya think the MSM would jump on it? Hell ya they would.

I don't know why this is the case. I had it when people are too quick to claim racism. That term is used much to conveniently, BUT with the the B.S. Obama's put up with and with no other logical explanation for this (and for the outright hatred of Obama by some), it just seems more than political and I have to wonder.

The good news IMHO, for what it's worth. I have a great feeling that Obama WILL be our next President.

You're right. If Obama was behind in Illinols, CNN would be reporting and talking about his waning popularity every hour on the hour.

Why? Because it would give Republicans a great opportunity to have their "commentators" on the air waves, repeating false explanations and lies so often--and reacted to as serious points so often--that they would become "the new truth".

Of course, since it's media darling McCAIN that's behind in HIS home state.....we'll never hear a thing.

The broadcast media, is overall corporate and conservative. CNN has changed so much in two years that I wonder if they have a morning memo circulated just like FOX does, telling them how to spin for the Republicans. (Who knows? Could even be the same memo).

The pro-McCain media spin and cover-up just gets worse and worse. Fortunately, he's SO bad that they won't be able to hide it forever.

Arizona has been moving to the Democrats. Their current Govenor is considered a favorite there and she supports OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!

I think that there's a good chance that northern and southern AZ will go for Obama. However, if McCain chooses Romney, he will get the large Mormon and conservative base in the center of the state. Oh, and the center of the state population equals that of the north and south combined. I think Obama needs to campaign in the Phx metro area a lot to really put AZ in play.

McBlameGame's campaign is in a downward spiral.
It will be fun to watch the vortex effect.

The effort he uses to shore up Arizona will be costly. And with the mistakes that he and Team McCain are making daily, you wonder just how he can shore up Arizona.

MSM is doing its best to keep this close, but how long before Fox decides that trashing the Obama Administration NOW gets them just as good ratings?

To my knowledge, RealClear hasn't picked up this polling info yet, so I'd go slow here. But, if true, the results wouldn't surprise me.

It's easy to fall into the trap of "cartoonizing" the political make up of each state on the electoral map. The first impression you get is "Arizona - Conservative GOP State - Cinch for McCain." But most people unfamiliar with AZ fail to consider (a) population growth and shifting demographics, , (b) a popular Democratic Governer (Janet Napolitano) and (c) some degree of local baggage on the part of Sen. McCain - including grousing that his national involvement may have caused him to neglect the state he represents.

All I'll say is that I try to live by the adage: "Never speak ill of a fellow Arizona Cardinal fan."

But in McCain's case, I'll make an exception - the Bush policies he supports are digging us a deeper and deeper hole as a nation. To consider 4 more years of this is terrifying..
