South Florida Sun Sentinel:

An escalating number of voters registering as Democrats is providing evidence that the 2008 election could produce a wave of support for Barack Obama -- and trigger a decades-long shift of party allegiance that could affect elections for a generation.

The numbers are ominous for Republicans: Through May, Democratic voter registration in Broward County was up 6.7 percent. Republican registrations grew just 3 percent while independents rose 2.8 percent.

Democrats have posted even greater gains statewide, up 106,508 voters from January through May, compared with 16,686 for the Republicans.

"It's a huge swing," says Marian Johnson, political director for the Florida Chamber of Commerce. "I looked at that and said, 'Wow.'"

Great, we can look forward to the inspiring leadership of "Tap tap tap, tap tap your wires" Obama backed up by the dynamic Pelosi and Hoyer. Bill Clinton waited until after the election to sell us all out on NAFTA and GATT. Obama already sold out on one biggie, I figure to match the Clinton dive he'll have to valiantly lead the battle to finish forging the PanAmerican Union, the Amero, and the NAFTA Superhighway. Change we can believe in, baby.

(rolling my eyes) How often do newly registered voters actually go out and vote? Are you aware that these new registrations are often connected to a petition signing? The person running the booth says "Would you like to sign a petition about so and so obvious republican bill? You will? Good.... Would you like to register to vote? Okay I'll just help you fill out the form..."

Florida has been democratic for along time;the old school Cuban vote in MIami has been bought by the Repub cause they are still mad at JFK for the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Remember, a Bush called Jeb & family controlled the voting and the Fl Supreme court. However, with the new voting equipment and younger MiamiDade Cuban voters, the truth might come out....

Republican policies have devastated parts of Florida. If Floridians again buy the Republicans' pretty-language song-and-dance, they will erode what's left of the state. And residents all know it.

Florida has always had enough Democrats to win elections. They just don't get their votes counted.

And even now, with paper ballots which can actually be recounted, Florida law prohibits a real recount under any circumstances. If Dems win the Presidential, it's not going to be because Florida provided the winning numbers... Florida is still the lynchpin of Republican vote fraud.

Pay attention. This is going to be happening all over. My husband and in-laws are conservative republicans, yet they are voting for Obama. My husband says that if McCain gets 2 states it would be amazing. People are fed up and they'll come out so things will change.

Florida needs to redeem itself. They screwed up the election in 2000, in 2004, and in 2008 they destroyed the primary and gave the stubborn Hillary people ammunition, embellished with a few lies and omissions, to manufacture a claim the election was stolen.

Damn Florida. Their "leaders" cannot run a clean election.

It's going to be a Democratic blow out in Florida.

Florida has more Registered Democrats than Republican for years.

The Problem has always been that Republicans have shown up to vote and the Dems haven't.

This year new Democrats registered have tripled since Super Tuesday in Florida.

1.5 Milion new Democracts compared to 400k Republican in Florida.

That spells bye bye GOP as we know them..

GOP will lose BIG TIME in this Election.

They won't be able to recover for 30 years from this Election year...

Nativeeyes-- you wrote "OBAMA/ T Boone Pickens 08."
Are you kidding???

Kindly remember that T. Boone Pickens is the same Texas oil scumbag who financed the Swift Boat Veterans in 2004 with $3 million of his money. They provided the ridiculous lies about John Kerry which the GOP driven corporate news machine repeated, articulated and amplified over and over during the 2004 presidential election.

And now T. Boone Pickens is complaining about the poor leadership in Washington. Predictably, none of our corporate news borgs are mentioning this now, while Pickens sets himself up as the great born again Alternative Energy guru. He is poison and should be punished, not praised.

For every newly registered Democratic voter in Florida, a few words of advice.
If you haven't received your Voter Registration Card (which certifies you as a valid voter and specifies your voting precinct) within six weeks after application, contact the Registrar of Voting in your county or the Florida Secretary of State to inquire about the status of your application.
If you don't receive a reply from either of them before voting day, and find yourself turned away from a polling place, present a photo ID, ask for a Provisional ballot, vote using that, and IMMEDIATELY contact your Registrar of Voting to register a complaint. Happy voting!

Podewumun, Sorry to say those cards don't mean much these days... Now they are called "Voter Information Cards" in Florida and prove nothing in terms of verifying the voter is properly registered.

Already we are seeing "glitches" in the fully computerized Registers... (no more localized Register Books in Florida... it's all centralized on a computer in Tallahassee. Now we're seeing citizens inexplicably moved from one precinct to another, addresses may be recorded wrong on the computerized record, people are dropped off the rolls.

The trolls are still planning to shave the vote, even if they can't win it.

This isn't new. If the landslide we hope for happens they will try to shave it down so they can maintain some power in Congress. This is what they did in 2006. (Google 2006 landslide denied).

Wrong again. Every state will be blue by November. People have had enough. Haven't you?

Florida used to be a solid republican state. Not anymore. Remember that Gore almost won florida.

Also this year, for the first time ever, the number of registered cuban democrates is much more than the number of cuban republicans. This is very important considering that the cuban vote has usually been one of the key deciding factors.

Republicans are going to be in for a big surprise this November.

Not to pour water on the fire, but we've seen this before, in the lead-up to the 2004 elections.

" Democrats outpace GOP in signing up new voters in Florida and Ohio, data show
Ford Fessenden, New York Times

Sunday, September 26, 2004

(09-26) 04:00 PDT Columbus, Ohio -- A sweeping voter registration campaign in heavily Democratic areas has added tens of thousands of new voters to the rolls in the swing states of Ohio and Florida, a surge that has far exceeded the efforts of Republicans in both states, a review of registration data shows.

The analysis by the New York Times of county-by-county data shows that in Democratic areas of Ohio -- primarily low-income and minority neighborhoods -- new registrations since January have risen 250 percent over the same period in 2000. In comparison, new registrations have increased just 25 percent in Republican areas. A similar pattern is apparent in Florida: In the strongest Democratic areas, the pace of new registration is 60 percent higher than in 2000, while it has risen just 12 percent in the heaviest Republican areas. If the Democrats had done only a hair better in 2004, Bush would be retired in Crawford. The lesson is clear - we must do far better in 2008, and overconfidence is a terrible pitfall.

guajiro...And your point is what?...That was 2004, this 2008. The economy is different, gas price has escalated, food price is out of touch, housing is the worst it has ever been, so things will be different this election..

And remember IRAQ, and all the lives lost unnecessarily, that should never have happened. So believe me when I say things will be different this election.

Quick, the GOP is saying, we've got to make sure the voting machines are rigged correctly! Watch out vote irregularities!

I don't know but I sure that even Diebold is sick and tired of the Bush administration and won't even bother rigging it this time around.
