SHREVEPORT, La. — Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright, along with members of a crew filming an Oliver Stone movie, were arrested during a bar fight Saturday morning, police said.

Shreveport police Sgt. Willie Lewis said Brolin, Wright and five others were arrested just after 2 a.m. at a club called the Stray Cat bar.

A call to deal with a rowdy patron drew interference from other patrons, Lewis said.

The Times of Shreveport reported that Brolin was booked and posted $334 cash bond to be released. Police could not say Saturday night whether he or the others had been released. The paper said they are part of the crew on an Oliver Stone film, "W," about President George W. Bush.

A call to Brolin's publicist was not immediately returned Saturday night.

"W" began filming in May in Shreveport. Brolin plays President Bush and Wright plays former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

The cast also includes Elizabeth Banks as first lady Laura Bush, Ellen Burstyn and James Cromwell as the elder Bushes and Thandie Newton as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Brolin appeared in three films last year, "In the Valley of Elah," "American Gangster" and "No Country for Old Men," which won the best-picture Oscar.

Wright won a Tony Award for "Angels in America" on Broadway and a Golden Globe for the same role in the television miniseries. He also has appeared in "Syriana," "Ali" and "Casino Royale."

"W" is Stone's third presidential film, following "Nixon" and "JFK." He also directed the Vietnam sagas "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Platoon," which won four Oscars including best picture and director.

The Academy Award-winning director only began shopping his script for financing in January, but has quickly captured the interest of investors and Hollywood.

Stone has said the film, which will focus on the life and presidency of Bush, won't be an anti-Bush polemic, but, as he told Daily Variety, "a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from being an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?"

It was nice to finally read that 'W' was arrested...even if it's not the real one. Dam-it-ol.

The censorship of HuffPo is becoming ridiculous. You can't even comment on a bunch of thug cops tazing and macing two unarmed little actors... Sheesh. Might as well close the comments on this one. You'll let people bash Oliver Stone here, but God forbid anyone should point out how tazer-happy the militarized police force has become. Land of the free, people. Makes me so proud.

Apparently there may be film at 11.

Don't actors refer to this as "getting into character"?

I'm sure Brolin saw a threat and decided to launch a preemptive strike. Wright knew there was really no threat but went along with Brolin anyway and said nothing.

I just hope the movie motivates the nation to hit the couch and look real deep inside itself on how and why we got "Dubya" and how we can prevent it from ever happening again.

The american religious right gave us "Dubya" based on hyped up fears that the sky is gonna fall if they did not vote for him ...I think the new generation evangelicals will be less killer bee but still hold on to some of the current intolerant attributes(Dobson,Parsely, and Hagee)

Also.
I support the legislation that would get rid of any Karl Rove type from having any prominent role in the White House ever again.

I hope the movie is good and motivates the people who see it to ask "Why?" and "How did this happen?"

E! online has more of the story. One of the crew was getting rowdy and the police were called, and Brolin and Wright tried to stand up for their guy, and the cops hauled them all away.

It's the manly, good guy way to get hauled in by the po-po at 2 a.m., if such a thing exists.

The crew member got angry over racist comments directed at Wright. The police over-reacted, tazing Wright (who apparently was just trying to tell them what happened), macing Brolin, who had come outside to see ask what was going on, and throwing his twenty-something female assistant to the ground for trying to talk to them. They arrested six unarmed people who did nothing wrong, save perhaps the crew member whose only "crime" was not leaving when the establishment told him to.

They will be dropping the charges and apologizing shortly, is my bet.

So, were they fighting amongst themselves, or with another group?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:52 PM on 07/13/2008

There was no actual fighting, just an obnoxious verbal disagreement. Until the police showed up and started tazing and macing people, that is.

Getting wasted and fighting? Sounds like research to me.

Indeed! Fighting ignorance is a full time job. Like people that support Obama when he lied about FISA.
