Sanford

The most painful clip from the Sunday morning shows: top McCain VP prospect Mark Sanford "drawing a blank" (in his own words) on live TV when asked to name a major economic policy that President Bush and John McCain disagree on.

The transcript:

BLITZER: Are there any significant economic differences between what the Bush administration has put forward over these many years as opposed to now what John McCain supports?

SANFORD: Um, yeah. For instance, take, you know, take, for instance, the issue of -- I'm drawing a blank, and I hate it when I do that, particularly on television. Take, for instance the contrast on NAFTA. I mean, I think that the bigger issue is credibility in where one is coming from, are they consistent where they come from.

Sanford finally came up with an answer -- McCain has opposed earmarks while President Bush hasn't -- but Blitzer twisted the knife a bit further, following up on Sanford's initial mention of NAFTA. "He's a huge supporter of free trade, John McCain, the Bush administration supports free trade. I don't see a big difference."

Sanford said he was going to make a separate point about consistency.

Like I said before, the country is not run by the President or Vice President, it is run by their top aides and advisors. They are just figure heads.

Wouldn't it be nice if every politician that came on TV could expect to be asked questions like that? I mean, if they were asked unexpected questions of substance rather than the expected political propaganda comments?

That's to be expected when our media has been nothing but a reich-wing propaganda machine for the past 20 years. They were supposed to stick to asking softball questions like "why do the godless Democrats hate our freedom?" or "what made John McCain act so patriotically and courageously when he was a POW?"

Ignorance should be no surprise.

Hey, I'm from South Carolina and I think Mark Sanford is a windbag. Not all people who live in South Carolina think like him. So, yes, you do need to say more. Don't lump all South Carolinians in with that dirtbag.

Mark Sanford is from South Carolina. Need I say more?

That's an unfair thing to say. SC is more conservative than a lot of states, and you might be able to make an argument on the relative merits of conservatism viz. intelligence, but painting the whole state? Hey, come to think of it, my right wing brother-in-law lives there. Maybe you've got a point! No, on 3rd thought, you don't.

If this guy is really a possible VP choice, then at least we know one thing: the VP's office will go back to being as irrelevant as it was before Cheney occupied it.

McCain has expressed many difference with Bush on domestic policy.
The trouble is when it comes to voting his vote always supports Bush's policies.

I'm sitting here drawing a blank as I try to think of what he said. It seems the only definite, understandable remark this light bulb made is "I'm drawing a blank". As for NAFTA, it is killing us and we do need to redraw this. We have lost businesses, resulting in lost jobs, resulting in lost homes. We have become a Wal-Mart society not because we want to, but because we can no longer afford the better stores, and this is forcing those better stores out.

Even our food is exported, processed in China and returned to us. Prices have doubled and we, as well as our pets, have been being poisoned because of the lax attitude of the Chinese.

Meanwhile, as Chinese sweatshops pay workers less than $5/day, those Chinese in the upper financial echelon shop at their high-end store, Wal-Mart. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!

MissingAmerica,

Meanwhile, as Chinese sweatshops pay workers less than $5/day, those Chinese in the upper financial echelon shop at their high-end store, Wal-Mart.

They're not shopping at Wal-Mart, they're shopping at Nieman Marcus, Fendi's and any other high end store name you can find on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Imagine that! Wolf Blitzer actually blitzes someone from the right! My oh my, what's next. Glenn Beck developing a social conscience! Nancy Grace finally figuring out that you are innocent until proven guilty!

But in all honesty is this guy any suprise. He is just another version of Charlie Black or Phil Gramm. Just another poor choice of advisor by McCain! The old adage Two Clues, one lost and the other one looking comes to mind.

It's not painful, it's the truth. He had nothing to say because there is no difference.

That's so unfair: Obama runs an attack ad on McCain that his surrogates can't disagree with.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:39 AM on 07/14/2008

Not an attack ad - an exposition of the truth.
