Sanford

The most painful clip from the Sunday morning shows: top McCain VP prospect Mark Sanford "drawing a blank" (in his own words) on live TV when asked to name a major economic policy that President Bush and John McCain disagree on.

The transcript:

BLITZER: Are there any significant economic differences between what the Bush administration has put forward over these many years as opposed to now what John McCain supports?

SANFORD: Um, yeah. For instance, take, you know, take, for instance, the issue of -- I'm drawing a blank, and I hate it when I do that, particularly on television. Take, for instance the contrast on NAFTA. I mean, I think that the bigger issue is credibility in where one is coming from, are they consistent where they come from.

Sanford finally came up with an answer -- McCain has opposed earmarks while President Bush hasn't -- but Blitzer twisted the knife a bit further, following up on Sanford's initial mention of NAFTA. "He's a huge supporter of free trade, John McCain, the Bush administration supports free trade. I don't see a big difference."

Sanford said he was going to make a separate point about consistency.

Arrgghh...that's painful...but, I live in SC, so we're used to it. You would be surprised at the number of people in positions of power all across our state who rival Sanford in "intellectual prowess" (including the Lt. Governor - look him up!) Those not as smart as Sanford and co., however, still get ahead by exercising the sycophant muscles in their lips. Those allergic to placing lips on a*s*s and in possession of much stronger intellectual faculties tend not to get as rich or powerful as Sanford's ilk in comparable numbers. Bienvenidos SC!!!

Is THIS American democracy?? Is THIS what it has become? Really?? How do these idiots get to the highest offices in the land? I just dont understand it! I dont ask that my president be an economic expert but I'll be damned if im electing one that touts his expertise on the subject and has no idea what he is talking about. GOD you Republicans are plain stupid.

Well, McCain can thank the new guy that he hired last week. He certainly is earning his keep. All of the surrogates are on point this week. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

John McCain is a fiscal policy hawk while Obama is a typical tax-and-spend liberal. John McCain wants to make Bush's tax cuts permanent, Obama wants to raise taxes by eliminating them. John McCain opposes new spending in the federal government without scaling back other programs, Obama will open the taxpayer's pocketbook and leave you with change. Yes, there are differences in NAFTA. John McCain also has a number of commonsense proposals to help America's energy crisis, Obama wants to spend on R&D exploring pipe dreams.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
That's pretty funny - you should take your act on the road!
I especially loved "John McCain opposes new spending in the federal government without scaling back other programs".
You're a regular effing comic genius!

I admit that Sanford looks pretty pathetic here, but this is nowhere near as bad as McCain attempting to respond to a question about whether health insurance providers should cover birth control like they cover Viagra. That agonized response made Sanford look smooth and articulate in comparison.

What the @^%@! is wrong with the earmarks if it is done with oversight?

These congressmen and senators get the earmarks and invest them in their districts. It helps the local economy, provides jobs to the local residents and creates revenue for the local governments. Do these politicians spend the earmarks in China or use it to help out a poor village in Africa? No, they are spending them here in the US. McCain received money for Arizona from some presidential fund ( I can't remember the name) but it isn't called earmark. If it's OK for McCain to get money in a roundabout way for projects in his state, why not other politicians get funding for projects in their districts too? It pisses me whenever the old man talks about earmark.

Old man used to joke about money being spend on sequencing the bear DNA in one of the Midwestern states. While that sounds funny to the old man, it is all about studying the ecosystem. Just today I was watching a report on the declining bee population and how that affects the price of our groceries at the store. The wild bee population is in decline since 2006 and farmers have to rent professional bee keepers to pollinate their crops. Farmers are passing on the extra cost to us consumers. Of course, if an ecologist studies why this happens with the earmark funding, the old man will have big problem.

They are more than willing to trade what they consider business-as-usual corruption for the illusion of safety from mostly imaginary threats (or exaggerated real threats) almost exclusively created by the very people they vote for.

Same reaction when McCan't was asked about Viagra; confused look, uninformed brains, lost for words. This guy is perfect for VP. What a pair!
