Golf

George W. Bush famously claimed to have given up golf out of respect for soldiers in Iraq:

"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

But this great sacrifice has taken the backseat to a more urgent concern -- raising money for John McCain:

If you're a high-flying Republican, and you can afford to take next Monday off to fly to Maine, have we got a treat for you.

On that day, former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush are hosting a high-dollar fundraiser for John McCain near their home in Kennebunkport.

According to a solicitation sent by the McCain camp, for the low, low price of $5,000, you can play a round of golf at Cape Arundel Golf Course, Bush's home course.

"Both President Bush and Governor Jeb Bush will be stopping by to greet the foursomes," the missive promises. "The course is reserved for this private group, and VIPs will be visiting during your round of golf. This event is a great way to end a weekend getaway, and we would be honored if you can attend."

I wish he would play golf all day long the rest of his days in office with Cheney and Rove and the other war criminals. It would keep them out of trouble.

Hey people give old Bush a BREAK!! He is just getting warmed up for when he gets to go on FULL time vacation for the rest of his life......not a problem in the world...just like the rest of the people who STARTED this war and decimated our economy..they get to go home and our Kids will still be dying and they will get away with it all.......AND become even wealthier.

Sucks Huh? But it is True!

Mission Accomplished!!

It DOES send the wrong signal - supporting McCain ! But what do rich old white men with millions of dollars care ? FORE !!!! You don't really expect Bush to remember today what he said yesterday, do you ? When he didn't really mean it in the first place ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:13 PM on 07/14/2008

Nope. The only thing he will remember is: Mission accomplished. Because it was for him and his friends. And evidently, there is nothing we can do about it either. Must be nice to be that rich and well connected.

that man said he gave it up

If you believe Bush gave up golf because of the troops you all must be drinking the cool aid. Keith Olbermann proved that he lied when he made that statement. I hope those guys in Iraq get to see how much the republicans and bush really takes care of the soldier.

I would only presume country clubs need an economic boost as well. All those who followed suit with W on golf abstinance have had a deliterious effect on the status circuits. What are the boys in Iraq fighting for anyway?

Iraqi oil, of course. Haven't you been paying attention?

Why couldn't they make baloney and cheese sandwiches at a soup kitchen and the attendees could pay GB to spread mayo on the sandwiches they made and also feed the ever increasing poor and jobless. they made.

Killing two birds with one stone, Jesus would be happy and they would be chrisian-like too.

Jesus is George W Bush's favorite philosopher. Unfortunately, Bush forgot about Jesus during his 2 terms in office. Who would Jesus bomb?

That might be too close to an admission of guilt over what they've done to America.

What kind of low life up-sucking idiot does it take to want to shake hands with George W Bush? I couldn't imagine anything worse. If anyone of the Bush family even brushed against me, I have to go home and bath in gasoline!

Don't know about you but if he were on fire I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on him to put him out. What a sorry SOB, glad I didn't vote for him twice.

I am not sure that our current president will be there. I think when they refer to "President Bush" greeting the golfers, they may be referring to 41, who is a host of the fundraiser, not 43.

Either way, I've played that course. It isn't worth $5k per round.

Don't forget the bug spray...

Well I guess it isn't technically a lie, as it only says that the president will be stopping by to greet foursomes and not actually playing himself.

So five thousand buys you a round of golf and a ten-second group handshade with the president.

Is the war over? I thought we were not golfing until the war was over. Or maybe it's just that Bush's reign as Commander in Chief is over. If only...

Why is there nothing on HuffPo about the Impeachment Resolution being voted on tomorrow in the House. It has been drawn up and is online at ImpeachBush.org. The reports and facts are now in, and there is no way they should fail to impeach. This is the last time I want to see this miserable little twit fiddle while Iraq burns! Write your Congressperson and ask them to vote to sponsor the Impeachment Resolution tomorrow! I don't know about you, but I am sick of looking at this little dictator. We have a chance now to finally get him out -- let's all send those letters!

Its VERY IMPORTANT to take away bush's ability to pardon his criminal friends on his way out. Starting the impeachment process WILL prevent him from pardoning...even if hes not eventually impeached. Dems PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEase, show some balls this time.
