Chris Matthews Confuses Barack Obama And Osama Bin Laden Once Again

Talking about the flap over The New Yorker's controversial cover featuring Barack and Michelle Obama, Chris Matthews slipped up -- once again -- and said "Osama Bin Laden" when he meant to say "Barack Obama." Matthews quickly caught and corrected himself.

We westerners have been mispronouncing Bin Ladin's name from the very beginning.

Phonetically, his name is pronounced you-samah been ladeen.

That would never be confused with Obama if it was pronounced correctly.

I agree we have called Bin Ladin by every name in the book, but his correct name, and it pathetic everytime I hear President Bush call Ahmedinejhad by some ridiculous name. I just remember the clue Whoopie Goldberg gave everyone to remember how to say Ahmedinejhad's name by word association by think his name is like saying " I'm a dinner jacket" and I found that doing this I pronounce his name correctly each time, so If people would say Barack's first name first, they wouldn't make the mistake.

I think Chris made a Freudian Slip because he had been voicing his displeasure at the New Yorker cover with another guest. As another poster said he is talking too fast and not being careful of his speech

There used to be a time when you would marvel at the verbal dexterity of journalist. They could commandeer the pronunciation of hugely convoluted and complex names of countries and world leaders. It was impressive to watch...After years of listening to George Bush mangle even ordinary words, Chris Mathews slides in under the mediocre Mathews Meter of banality. His "slip ups" on Obama's name are no longer a slur against Barack Obama. After all, he is a world figure, now. He's been on the map and in the daily news for almost 2 years. The fact that Chris Mathews continues to spew the wrong name, says he's not as mentally agile, as he would like us to think he is. Therefore, he is completely unimpressive.

It's the anti-intellectualism, that has always been part of the American mindset, taken to the extreme. (remember, the founding generation generally hated the real deep-thinkers that wrote the constitution and the other founding documents -- they loved Washington, the big guy who spoke plainly and didn't have time for Madisson's bull).

I agree, one too many times. He thinks he's being funny. Give David's show to Rachel or Mike Smerconish or get rid of Chris and give Mike Chris's show. David Gregory is a conservative pundit who hates Barack. He is not fair and balanced. Hate his show.

I saw the - yet another - verbal mistake with Obama's name last night be Matthews.

Considering this is a person that is paid a lot of money for his supposed "speaking" ability - I am starting to wonder if indeed these "slip-ups" are really accidental.
