Jesse Ventura announced on Larry King Live Monday that he would not be running for Senate from Minnesota (although he reserved the right to change his mind if God came and told him to run between Monday and the filing deadline Tuesday at 5pm).

Watch Ventura's announcement:

While I am not a fan of Ventura, I do like his truthfulness and outspokenness.

I am a fan of Ventura because of his truthfulness and outspokenness.

Lets all hope we can get more politicians of his type in office (even though none exist yet).

Scratch the surface, and you'll find that all of his details are nothing but ill-conceived notions. He's good at yelling FIRE! in a crowded theater but doesn't even know how to pull the fire alarm.

What is it with the IDIOTS in this country who think a show business career is a step to politics? Remember Reagan? That man was as unqualified as Jesse Ventura. At least Al Franken has a degree from a recognized college that is NOT in Texas and his daddy didn't buy it for him.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:01 AM on 07/15/2008

With respect to Franken, I hope he wins, but Ventura has one thing on Franken right now. He has actually held office.

Right now, technically, Ventura has more qualifications than Al. But I'd like to see Al win, so thanks Jesse.

If the fact that he was a terrible governor, has brain damage, and is a bobble-headed idjit who believes the WTC was a "controlled demolition" makes him more qualified than Al, I question your definition of "qualified". Time in office does not qualify him for anything except our con*tempt.

Does that mean the dismal record of George Bush some how makes him qualified for anything? He has been an abject failure at everything he has ever done. Experience does not necessarily make one qualified.

So, here's the question. WHY does someone who resides in Mexico and will NOT be voting during this General Election cycle -- get constant airtime on Larry King Live, and merit ANY consideration whatsoever in the Press?

He said that he resides in Mexico Six months a year. He's a snowbird like many over the age of 50 in this country.

I saw a bit of this.

Did anyone else notice that Jesse seemed to have some sort of tremor?

And was he really correct saying that he was currently polling second - ahead of Al Franken?

How is that even possible in this election cycle, especially when MN is trending blue and the buzz is that Pawlenty couldn't deliver the state as McCain's VP pick?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:45 AM on 07/15/2008

I saw he had a tremor i was hopeing it was not just me thinking things. does this man have some type of health issue, maybe that why he not going to run ,just want to keep it private

He's had that for years. I'd always just assumed he was bobbing his head after saying something clever, but perhaps there's something a little more serious going on.

He's always had that. I can't figure out how nobody noticed how totally ADD he is years ago when he was Governor and getting all kinds of National attention. His kids both have learning disabilities too so it makes sense. I'm not trying to be disrespectful here, merely observant.

Good. Now he'll be available as a Vice Presidential candidate.

Amen to that, although Jesse is probably too good a human being to be wasting his noble self on the democrats of today.

Most of the people making light of Jesse on here are just popcorn munching slobs with a greasy keyboard and a scrawny cat. But I suppose a lot of you guinea pigs think you know your government. This cycle, you got yer blue and yer red and ain't airy a difference betwixt em. In this life, you either fish or you cut bait. I'd soon as fish. Good luck, Mr. Ventura, although you make your own luck.

This is Jesse's entire platform.

If you ask him about healthcare, he will give that exact same answer. If you ask him about education - same answer. Economy, Foreign policy, Energy policy - same answer.

Well, I'm surprised, but I shouldn't be. JV knows he can make more money and get more attention by complaining about the system than by actually having to work to change the system and be held accountable. He lacks the discipline, the responsibility, and the work ethic to back up his bluster. That's all there is to it. No one but Larry King and some message board posters seem to take him seriously, which indicates that maybe America is wising up.

This "none of the above" stuff is meaningless. Americans have the choice not to vote, and if they don't, that's the same as a "none of the above" vote. But a lower voter turnout tends to ensure that the worst candidates have better chances.

He was, by most measures, a thoroughly rotten Minnesota Governor. In contrast, though I wouldn't vote for Schwarzenegger, I'll give him credit. He actually seems to work hard and take the job seriously. He appears to have improved, and he also appears to be a more sensible breed of Republican. Not everyone can do that. But anyone can do what Ventura does, which is lashing out in frustration at the system and implying that you're nothing but a chump if you believe in it and try to make it better.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:03 AM on 07/15/2008

Not exactly. In some countries, a 50% vote for none of the above, means you have new elections with other candidates.

I disagree that he was a "Rotten Governor".
He had a "Rotten" legislature that forced some really bad laws on him (some of which got repealed thankfully). He also made some mistakes too.

BUT

When he made a mistake, he took FULL, UNMISTAKABLE, OWNERSHIP of that mistake AND he worked his ass off to FIX it.

He was honest and didn't play politics, which is why he is generally unliked as a politician and why he will get my vote every time.

There isn't a single politician in the country today who is as HONEST as Jesse Ventura. We need to clone that guy and put him in office everywhere!

No really, he was a ROTTEN governor. He did MAJOR damage to public education and our property tax structure.

He played stoopid political, selfish games when Wellstone died too.

Jesse,

Please reconsider. Neither of those two bums deserve a Senate seat!

America needs you to answer the cal.

I watch his interview on Larry King Live and found his reasons for not running interesting. He did, however, leave the door open and said should he decided to run Larry would know that God had spoken to him. Previously he said unlike others God had never spoken to him and he wasn't a religious man.
