Bush Gas Joke

Bush was feisty during his press conference on the troubles facing the economy. Asked about how to lower gas prices, Bush referred back to what he calls his "brilliant statement" about the president having a magic wand that could instantly reduce gas prices. Bush expanded on this riff, however, with a strange movement vaguely reminiscent of a genie granting a wish: "You can't just say, 'low gas!'"

We have a lame-duck president who has the lowest popularity ratings in history who was just able to bully a hostile congress into a wire tapping bill that most of the opposition party has opposed. Including among those he successfully bullied is the opposing party's presumptive nominee.

He isn't a joke. He's as close to being a successful dictator as this country has ever seen. Maybe a true dictator...we will see next January who takes the oath of office.

Any bets it will be GWB? I wouldn't bet against it.

PART 2

You are not going to put your money in the stock market when you can clearly see that the economies of the world are imploding and are going into recession. You are not going to store your money in real estate when you see what has happened to the real estate markets in the US and Britain. You are going to store your wealth in places where you have the most confidence. Safe havens like, the Japanese Yen, the Euro, the Swiss Franc and especially commodities.

Bear in mind that there is oceans of hot money from all over the world desperately looking for a "safe" place store their wealth. And because the US is no longer trusted that leaves limited options. Some of those options are commodities like oil, gold, rice, corn, etc. These are products that the world NEEDS in order to survive. So prices of commodities are NOT going through the roof because of speculators, they are going through the roof because the US dollar is in free fall. In other words, the world has lost faith in the US. And who is responsible for that? George W. Bush and the Republican philosophy of laissez-faire. I.E. let business do what ever the hell it wants because businessmen are too smart to make bad business decisions. Well I guess we have finally learned what bullshit that philosophy really is.

Ironically, Bush is telling the truth here. "It took us a while to get here and it will take us a while to get out of here".... "if I could wave a magic wand and say 'low gas' I would'... but I don't have a magic wand."

Yes, its true, there are no magic solutions and he's right when he says its going to take "a while" to get out of this crisis.

What Bush is not honest about with the American People is WHY gas prices are high and WHY America is in the disastrous situation it is.

In the first place the high price of gas (and oil) is directly related to the low value of the US dollar. Internationally the world USED TO store its wealth in US dollars. But not any more. Because of the crisis in confidence in the US economy (and the US dollar) international investors are selling the US dollar and buying commodities. If you are an international investor looking for a safe place to put your money you are not going to put your wealth into Dollars when you can see that the US is printing money like mad to rescue the American Banks.

End of part 1

Bush: An example of a small mind, trying to cope with a monumental job. And predictably, he's failing.

This answers the question:

What If Bart Simpson grew up to be President ?

Bush is ALWAYS, ALWAYS feisty during press conferences, when he isn't snickering over some utterly stupid joke he has made in front of his captive audience. I think he acts this way automatically as a defense mechanism and it has always worked for him, the reporters are always such a spineless, timid bunch fearful babies.
Instead of even considering answering questions posed to him, he launches into tortured lectures and tirades and ends up not only not allowing the pathetic excuse for journalists to not ask questions, he never answers the very few questions the do get in before he lauches into his surreal, senseless rants.

His insanity never shows through more crystal-clearly than when he is performing at a presser -- just look at his face, he is miserable at even the prospect of having to answer to anybody, in any way.

Just imagine how he would react to questions posed to him by judges when he is brought up on charges for crimes against humanity at the World Court in the Hague.

The Hague--now that would reality tv. And my dearest fantasy.

Woodchips, you hit the nail on the head. We have been lied to, hoodwinked and bullied by this administration for so long that it almost seems like a way of life. Instead for a rational and concientious government, we have sold out to corporate, religious fanaticism and ego centric politicians. Imagine a Senator preaching GOD, when all the time investing in PORN movies! Of foot stomping in restroom stalls. Money and religiion, the root of all evil.

Gee, I wonder why he and Bill don't have that same attitude about welfare to work programs - which seemed to be premised on ignoring the fact that it's taken generations to get people dependent, and getting them to be independent aint gonna happen over night.
