Rep. Dennis Kucinich continued his seemingly quixotic crusade to impeach President Bush last week. But with Speaker Pelosi suggesting the House Judiciary Committee may hear his argument, Kucinich might get his day very soon. The American News Project has a new video explaining Kucinich's ongoing fight:

In a stunning development which fell with the silence of a feather yesterday, nine Republicans broke with their iron-fisted party to put country first, and voted to send Rep. Dennis Kucinich's article of impeachment HR 1345 to the Judiciary, where Chairman John Conyers will hold a hearings on abuses of power by the Bush administration, according to the Congressional Quaterly's CQToday. The final vote was: Yea 238 - Nay 180.

The nine Republicans are:

Congressman Kevin Brady (TX), Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (MD), Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC), Congressman Don Manzullo (IL), Congressman Tim Murphy (PA), Congressman Ron Paul (TX), Congressman Dave Reichert (WA), Congressman Christopher Shays (CT)

One of the Republicans, Walter Jones, represents Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, one of the largest Marine bases in the country, and one which has borne heavily the sacrifice of the Iraq War.

Thank you Dennis and the few real Republicans left.

I have heard that there will be impeachment hearings but no vote? To me this is unacceptable to allow George W. Bush to break the law violate the constitution and just say that is fine is a crime in its self. Why should I be required to obey any laws if those that make are not. I have voted democrat all my life now at fifty nine I'm considering a third party or maybe I should vote republican. Then we have the problem with Rove why you people keep flexing your muscles I do not know your not going to do any thing except make noise. What a bunch of cowardly losers.

We really wanted Kucinich for president he is smart, capable, principled and represents so many of our views. The reality of American politics made it impossible to elect someone who is as principled and patriotic as Kucinich ...
We applaud his efforts to impeach these war criminals and criminals who have hijacked our constitution and our nation in a bloodless coup d'etat ...
Bravo bravo bravo Congressman Kucinich ... and thank you for your efforts in service to democracy despite the hyper capitalist controlled congress.

Dennis is a true hero, everything O's simpleton supporters pretend their nominee is, but isn't. Thank you for doing what your gutless party members don't have the courage to do, Rep. Kucinich.

Thank you Dennis - it's never too late - we must show Americans and the world that Bush and Chaney have crossed the line.

YIKES!
Watch this from Think Progress:

Today, on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who has held several hearings on the Bush administration’s torture program, said that President Bush has committed “impeachable offenses”:

NADLER: If we had a just system and it weren’t overly political, the president would be impeached. I think he has committed impeachable offenses.

This should be plastered all over America's television sets. Instead we sit blissfully ignorant, watching American Idol & fantasizing about getting a raise from our overpaid boss that will appease us for the next 2 years, only to repeat the cycle two years from now. WAKE UP AMERICA! Our government has ripped you off for nearly a decade!

Speak up! Force change! And by all means write to your congressperson, and tell them you support Kucinich's efforts, and let's get this criminal out of office already!

(And thank you, Dennis!)

So the same Congress that just voted to give law breaking telecoms immunity making a mockery of the rule of law. The same bunch of cowards that can't get Karl Rove to honor a subpoena is going to impeach Bush. Seriously, that's just not ever gonna happen.

And an authentic Progressive willing to stake his career on what is right not what is expedient.
Love him.

but I've always been partial to little guys.
;-)

Go to AcT Blue as well for donations to authentic Progressives.
Also Glenn Greenwald on Salon has info on these things.
His series on FISA was stellar.

Think whose legacy will be better--- that of Kucinich or that of Pelosi, Conyers, and Congress in general if they do nothing to stop Bush.

Impeachment is a necessity to restore the Constitution to the state it used to be prior to the Bush administration and to keep the next president from having dictatorial powers. That it hasn't happened is a testimony to the corruption of Congress, the politicization of the Justice Department, and the death of real journalism through Republican control of the mainstream media. That it hasn't happened is proof that American government does not represent the people.

I read that Conyers thinks impeachment would hurt Obama's campaign. I think not doing it will hurt Obama's campaign more. Why not just be a man and do what is RIGHT? Or is he too scared?

Kucinich will go down in history as someone who tried to speak up for what was right and was ignored by his "peers". I suspect that many people will write in his name when the election comes....

Excellent idea.
I've been trying to figure out what to do since I have felt that voting for Obama was going to be difficult.
Not even because of his positions so much as because of his selling himself, creating a narrative about himself and his positions and creating a narrative about Clinton borrowing from some of the neocon smears and then proving he "would do and say whatever it takes to get elected."

I have to say I saw this happening back in late February and was warning people to get off the ideology of personality or they were going to feel betrayed later on. You can't vote for an ideal because it is only your picture not reality. Just like the picture that Hillary Haters presented of Hillary (and seem to believe so fervently is an illusion so too is this idealized fiction of Obama. Obama got that and that is what he and Axelrod did so brilliantly. They created a narrative for people to project their ideals onto.

He has even said as much, saying people see what they want to see in him, things like that.
He is a politician. A chicago politician at that.

by the way.
I did lots of research on him, Clinton and a couple of others- the ones I was partial to, so his shift wasn't a surprise to me.
Read the New Yorker article this week- the one with the cover everybody is insane over. I just wished they had published it in January or February.

Harpers also has a great article from a couple of years ago.
Google Obama Harpers and it will come up on top.
worth while reading it, gives a good picture of how things get done, how people get started, where money comes from.

just my opinion of course.
I have to put the caveat in before the attackers arrive.
Of course since this isn't a post about Obama the traffic will be light.
did they reach 10,000 comments over at the Cartoon cover yet?

sigh
