CNN:

The man who once jokingly described the political press corps as "my base" has a few complaints about the state of American media.

In a New York Times interview Sunday, John McCain lamented the non-stop news cycle spawned by cable news and the Internet.

"We are in a situation today where all words are parsed, all comments are diagnosed and looked at for whatever effect they might have," he told the newspaper. "We have to feed the beast, the hourly cable shows, the instant news in the blogs and all that. That is just the situation that we're in, and I'm not complaining about it, because that would be both foolish and a waste of time."

We are tired of the media kissing your butt and never calling you out on your lies and stupid mistakes.

I can't stand McCain and the GOP, but the 24/7 news cycle that has arisen is almost exclusively focused on verbal gaffes, and a ridiculous micro-scrutiny of everything associated with a candidate, no matter how trivial. The daily polling they conduct is like taking your temperature every 15 minutes for the next 4 months. And yet we're shocked when politicians craft policies that seem poll-driven. Most importantly it has not resulted in us picking better candidates and/or presidents.

I read "The Making of the President 1960", which chronicles in great detail the historic 1960 Kennedy/Nixon presidential race. This was a race between two imperfect and flawed men, that was covered and reported on in a much more substantive manner. It was focused on policies, vision, and leadership style. Gaffes played no part in the media coverage, or the electorate's decision making.

Watching daily, obsessive speculation, and repetitive analysis of this presidential campaign on cable has made me see clearly how it is in the media's interest to try and create a daily controversy, no matter how bogus it is, to keep viewers tuning in. Every word is parsed beyond all reason.

This 24/7 cable coverage has made me decide to tune out till after Labor Day when all the BS is over, and it's time to get serious.

Take your advisors advice and quit whining John.

What's he whining about?

The MSM never fails in their failure to report his thrice-daily verbal missteps.

heh heh

I very rarely see MSM repor t McCain's numerous mis-steps.

Also, did McCain vote against his own immigration bill?

Does he have any idea what the hell he is doing? I thought not!

Cable tv indeed.

Give him another decade and he'll figure out how the internet has affected the news cycle.

Once again, republicans want their cake and want to eat it too. They enjoy their cadre of loudmouth liberal bashers like Rush and Hannity. But they can't out-run the almost-instantaneous reporting and the accountability that it sometimes brings. Take the Bush administration for instance. How many times have they made controversial announcements late on a Friday night, long after Nightly News has signed off? But "cable" and the "internets" are forever vigilant.

Translation. Please parse Obama's words all you want and listen carefully to all his surrogates, even when they aren't speaking for him, and we will provide assistance and twist his words, if you don't.

But don't parse my words or pay attention to my surrogates that make stupid comments, even if I agree with them.

I.e.I'd like to have it both ways,as always, from the MSM.. Remember you are my base.

I am not tired of the Cable Monster.

I am tired of the Right Wing Corporate Media Cable channels in the tank for the GOP so bad that they lie about the opposition, and cover up huge gaffes by the right wing.

McSame is just pathetic.

Funny..... When Obamas surrogates were the target of the press, McCain just sat there idly. Now all the sudden it seems to be an issue.

Message to McCain, that is American politics. It might not be 100% right, but it's how things are done here. If you don't like it, get out of the kitchen.

Oh yeah, McBush is most certainly whining about it. The Internet won't allow Republican politics to present without vetting. Bad news for fascist propagandists who once had free reign over the lie.

They're busted 24/7and no, nobody's tired of it but shady, lying politicians.

Net neutrality forever! Keep the Corporation on a leash and pass a Constitutional amendment as the next step in keeping the biggie, the First Amendment, Net-Safe. Until then, consider returning to dial up, reducing bandwidth, and removing Corporate excuses to control usage. Keep freedom cancer free.

So, if the Republicans can't handle the truth, leave.
