The Gavel:

The New York Times reports that the Bush Administration's Department of Health and Human Services is drafting a rule that would place new restrictions on domestic family planning programs. While current law allows health care providers and professionals to refuse to provide abortions based on their religious beliefs, this provision would threaten the funding of organizations and health facilities if they do not hire people who would refuse to provide birth control and defines abortion so broadly that it would include many types of birth control, including oral contraception.

Lets say one of these fat cat christian conservative pro-lifers has a daughter going to high school or college. One night while walking to her dorm she is accosted by an unknown subject and raped and then beaten into a coma. Unfortunately, she becomes inpregnated. What should happen next is common sense, but according to the most rightous of these hypocrits an abortion would be illegal. Ditto for any severe defects to the fetus. I know what the rethug fat cat would do, he'd get the abortion under the most secret of circumstances and then jump back on the bandwagon of pro-life because we little people aren't mature enough to make these decisions. In the meantime this same dude cheers "shock and awe", torture and sending more and more Americans into the meat grinder of the Middle East. These people are scary in their hypocrisy and their justification for their opinions and actions.

The link sent me to Speaker Pelosi's page.

I would have preferred a news source. That way, I might have seen what the rule change is. When we are arguing about a rule change, it would be nice to see the actual new rule instead of the speakers spin on the new rule.

But what do I know, I am just a troll.

Approximately 80% of fertilized eggs fail to implant themselves into the walls of the uterus and as a result are flushed out of the woman's body during her period. Is that murder as well?

Murder or not, do we attempt to retreive them so that we can give them a righteous Christian burial?

Every single thing they do is evil.

I think we may have to re-think that "Evil" branding.

I believe we have to move them all over to the "Wicked" column.

Evil people do the things they do in the belief that what they do it the right thing, whereas wicked people know what they do is the wrong thing and do it anyway.

Where is the Spanish Inquisition when you need them?

Good, so let the HRC fools (PUMA, Ricki Lieberman, et al.), the ‘hard working White Americans’, and supposedly Independents vote for McSame. The racists think Blacks have too many children now; let's see what a lack of contraceptives will do to even the better educated among. I want these White christers and self righteous bigots to take care of ALL the unwanted children that will spring from bush's brain trust. They better don’t expect me to adopt them. They will create the baby boom; I sure(s) hope they can find the cash to raise them chil’ren.

This is completely unbelievable (or is it so unbelievable that it's really just par for the course anymore?)

I can't believe all those times I had my period before! My god! I've committed upwards of 150 abortions!

"I can't believe all those times I had my period before! My god! I've committed upwards of 150 abortions!"

What about the fertility clinic employees who -- acting upon the wishes of the owners -- discard frozen embryos into their dumpsters? Would they be accessories to the murders of the owners?

Righteous "right-to-lifers" rummaging through the trash to help bring frozen embryos' murders to justice ... instead of rummaging through the trash to help bring frozen embryos' stem cells to research labs ...

What's their slogan? ... LIFE -- WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CHOICE!? Their choice of placing "MORE inherent dignity and matchless value" on the "unique human life" of the thrown-away frozen embryo, than the LIVES of those suffering from debilitating diseases!? ... PRICELESS!

Problem is ... those children may not make it to enlistment age ... with the "no child left a dime" crowd in control!

It's not about MORALITY ... It's about MONEY! ...

If you've got it ... you're denied your "right-to-DIE" (Terri Schiavo & her malpractice settlement)
If you don't ... you're denied your "right-to-LIVE" (un- and under-insured americans)

So I suppose George and Laura Bush only engaged in marital relations enough times to result in her one pregnancy.

For any voter who thinks reproductive health and choice are "feminist issues" this action by the far right Bushies should disabuse them of that. Young men need to get up to speed on this issue if they are not and demonstrate to their girlfriends and wives that they to understand and appreciate the health, personal, professional and economic decisions that are part of planning a family and choosing whether, when and how many children to bring into the world.

RHRealityCheck.org http://www.rhrealitycheck.org//) has a great series on this proposed ruling called "Contra-bortion" -- just one more issue the Bushies are trying to confuse for people.

well, i strongly disagree with bush on this as well as a zillion other issues, but it DOES show a certain 'twisted logic'...the left has been defining abortion as birth control for decades

Be that as it may, while all abortion may be birth control, not all birth control is abortion.

The left has never defined abortion as a method of contraception.
