Some former top Hillary Clinton fundraisers have received attention in recent days for thus far declining to help bundle donations for Barack Obama. But none of those figures was actively working against Obama's candidacy. Ricki Lieberman is another matter.

Also a former Clinton "Hillraiser" (meaning she raised more than $100,000 for the campaign), Lieberman is keeping her own private hope alive with a daily email blast to supporters, entitled "Electability Watch," which features a cascade of negative articles and other items about Obama as a means to argue that superdelegates should change their minds in Denver and crown Clinton the nominee instead. A tipster who described them as "disgusting" sent a batch of recent "Electability Watch" emails to the Huffington Post. Their authenticity was confirmed in a phone conversation with Ms. Lieberman, who said her only desire is to "see a Democratic president in the White House" next year.

Any Democrat, perhaps, except Barack Obama -- or "BO aka Bush 3," as Lieberman repeatedly refers to him. The emails sometimes go out of their way to parrot some of the most hardcore attacks on Obama, including comments comparing Obama's planned nomination speech to Nazi-era rallies in Germany. In one email, she quotes messages from apparent Holocaust survivors:

I have heard from many Survivors and their children about the symbolism and implications of use of rules to undermine our core democratic values. Ellen Mendel wrote that "I was born under Hitler in Germany, and reading about the plans for the Obama throng in the stadium in Denver and the implications which have been spelled out, gives me the chills...the DNC will deliver the country to Obama on a platter. I wonder when it will hit them what pawns they have been in this Faustian tragedy.

Another, "As someone who escaped from France during WW ll, I hope that I'm not being over dramatic when I'm more than uneasy with stuff like Obama's possible Denver stadium theatrics and the calibrated negotiations going on about the convention."

Other emails from Lieberman cite Obama's "alliances with a cast of characters include Louis Farrahkan," and urge people to contact the German embassy to protest "Obama's grandiose, inappropriate hope" to speak at the Brandenburg Gate.

In an interview, Lieberman said it is incumbent upon the party's superdelegates to take another cold, hard look at which candidate will be more electable in the fall. Given that neither Obama nor Clinton managed to win enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination, a switch from Obama to Clinton is a technical possibility that nevertheless seems highly improbable.

A spokesperson for Sen. Clinton implicitly distanced the candidate from Lieberman's effort, telling the Huffington Post: "Senator Clinton fully supports Senator Obama. She continues to urge all of her supporters to get behind him. ... She continues to do everything she can to rally folks behind him. We don't support any effort that doesn't."

Still, Lieberman presses on each and every day with her emails, signing off each one with an exhortation for her audience to "GO GO GO!!!" in their efforts to contact and persuade superdelegates. While Lieberman would not reveal the number of people on her list, she bragged in one email that her organization is "beginning to reach SDs [superdelegates] thousands of times a week."

Story continues below

Lieberman's emails can also be unintentionally funny. In a recent edition, she advanced a theory that the reason Obama's fundraising operation has started to show some signs of wear is because all those small donors during the primary were, in truth, closet McCain supporters who, instead of donating to his foundering campaign, were trying to destroy the most formidable Democratic candidate (that being Clinton). "And now they do not have to contribute anymore," Lieberman wrote. "Some may have even gone back to funding McCain whose fundraising has gotten better and better. SIGH... Any takers for this theory???"

In her effort to be comprehensive, Lieberman once included two mutually exclusive views on one hot story, apparently because both positions reflected poorly on Obama. During the recent Jesse Jackson controversy -- in which the civil rights leader was caught expressing his desire to "cut [Obama's] nuts off" in a hot-mic moment before a television appearance -- Lieberman's email suggested in back to back items that the entire incident was engineered by Jackson and Obama as a cynical bit of propaganda and that the incident was a true reflection of a growing displeasure among key black leaders with his candidacy.

Asked whether her relentless tearing down of Obama could potentially damage her oft-stated goal of seeing a Democratic president, Lieberman refused to concede the point. Ultimately, she described Obama as "unfit to be president."

So which is it? Does Lieberman want to see a Democratic president no matter what, or does she think it's important to advance the idea of Obama as unfit to lead?

"Well, it's both," she said. "Basically, my focus is on having her become the nominee."

What does Lieberman make of Clinton's campaigning on behalf of Obama?

"Well, look. A lot of people can say a lot of things and they do."

Does she share with some other Hillraisers a desire to see Clinton become Obama's running mate?

"I don't even think about it," adding that it's unseemly to speculate on such things before a nominee is officially crowned. As for the former Clinton supporters who are now backing Obama, Lieberman said "people are making different decisions, and I honor all of them."

But she certainly doesn't seem to honor Obama in her emails. Asked how she can justify being so dismissive of a fellow Democrat, she explained that her rhetorical fire stems from her certainty that Clinton would be 20 points ahead of McCain right now if she were the presumptive nominee, saying: "He's just not sealing the deal with the voters."

Why did these people name themselves after an endangered species: the Puma

I found this definition on some engendered animals website:

PUMA: The largest of the purring cats, the puma is also the largest cat that cannot roar. Rather, they make three distinctive sounds described as chirping like a bird and crying like a baby.*

Primarily nocturnal, they are most active one hour before sunset to two hours before sunrise**. This combined with their elusive nature makes proving they exist almost impossible.*

*Hilarious!
**are you guys blogging the whole time?!

Obama is only the presumed nominee because the Gang of 3 (Dean, Pelosi, Brazile) forced Clinton out of the race. He is an arrogant empty suit who may be able to win in November but without my vote. The Democratic party is a huge disappointment--I never thought they were the flip side of the Repugs but that is exactly who they are. The true progressive in the race has always been Clinton and the Obama followers are in denial about his love of things Bush--faith based programs, FISA bill, etc. What a sad joke.

52 million dollars is no joke. How many does Clinton have? She can't even get out of the hole. Why don't you supporters help her financially instead of blowing hot air all the time? That will show her how much you really care.

You are the joke! Obama won this nomination because for one, he had a plan to win the most pledged delegates, which is how nominations are won. 2, he put that plan to work and won the most pledged delegates. 3. the 3 had no control of the winning of pledged delegates, they only stuck by the rules setforth years ago. 4, you are a sore loser and you should admit it to yourself.

Faith is a part of our lives, we all live here togethter, some of us believe in faith, some don't, but because you don't doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't. Bye the way, this country was founded on the faith of our forefathers. If you don't like it, move to Iraq, France, Europe, anywhere!!

Maybe you prefer McCain, we don't!

Poor deluded PUMA! Clinton remained in the race until the last primary and caucus was held, and when the delegates were counted, she lost. She didn't give a rat's ass about MI and FL until she needed the votes, and she only needed the votes because she was so confident of her ultimate victory that she let IA and her momentum slip away. You can blame everyone in the world but Hillary for the loss, but think about it...she was running for the most powerful position on earth, so she and she alone was responsible for making it happen. The press? If she can't work with the press, how is she going to get her message out to the people? No, no victims for President for me, thank you. And after eight years of Bush, you would throw the country away to McCain and the same neo-cons who have destroyed this country over a single FISA vote, faith-based programs and bruised feelings. That's not a joke, that's disgusting.

What's stupid about the "disaffected" is that they support a candidate but not what she stands for. It's just about her face, her sex and her po...- wait NOT her policies. Not what she'd actually do as president. Otherwise, how could they justify backing a candidate that has NOTHING in common with her?

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:14 PM on 07/17/2008

Sen. Clinton has a lot in common with Sen. McCain. She is way more moderate than Obama. The only two things you can really hit us on is heath care and abortion. Roe-V-Wade is not going to change no matter who is in office for the next four years, and the way congress works, or I should say doesn't work, that won't get done either.
If we could trust Obama to do what he says, you might have the beginnings of a credible argument, but he doesn't even know what he wants to do. He changes his mind on something every 5 minutes.
So complain all you want, but this is still America and we have a right to protest a candidate and we have a right to vote for the candidate of our choice, not have him selected by our party. Our party doesn't care about us or what we have to say because we disagree with them, but we are going to keep saying it.

Obama doesn't stand for squat, there is nothing to vote for there.

He would be worse than McCain at destroying core Democratic values such as the right to privacy, separation of church and state, universal health care, etc, because he would have the wind at his back with a cooperative Democratic Congress behind him, while McCain would be impotent as President. His policies would never see the light of day.

We needed a fighter for our Democratic agenda - Hillary Clinton - not a total sellout like Obama. You supporters were mislead and now many of you cannot admit you were bamboozled. I think that is why many of you get so defensive, your guy is showing his true colors, and underneath it all you are afraid you have bought a lie. You have. It's not too late to back the right Democrat, who can win in November, you need to consider that, away from the hysterical fray that lives on here.

Logged on to this blog expecting this to be the trophy party for the Obamacons and it was nice to see the postings of commentators like myself who firmly believe that Democrats have every right to continue to support Hillary Clinton until and if on her nomination to a first ballot she should lose a combination of pledged delegates and superdelegates going to Obama. I still do not believe I could support Obama but that is because of the stance he has taken on issues I care about: campaign financing, FISA, Iraq, mental illness as a reason to terminate a pregnancy, NAFTA, negotiating with leaders of HAMAS and Cuba. This isn't my kind of Democrat.

This is sad, unbelievable and totally selfish. The people who I blame MOST for this “childish” self-destructing behavior are Bill and Hillary Clinton. They cannot get their mind around the fact that they LOST this election. Bill needs to start acting like the party elder he SHOULD be, instead of a sore loser. Where has he been? Hiding!!!!! This is not about them anymore. The more Bill continues to hide the more damage he is doing to his legacy. Obama is so much like him, in terms of when He was running for President. You would think you would embrace that and move the Democratic Party into the future.

I feel bad for Obama because he is getting it from ALL sides. So much hate and blatant disrespect for what he is doing and trying to do for ALL AMERICANS.

Right on, Ricki! She's absolutely correct in her activities and assessment. If a person like Sen. Obama becomes president, America will be in grave trouble. More ominous than the fact that Obama isn't qualified, his every congressional move contradicts his campaign promises & frequently points toward giving the government, headed by the president, increasing powers to ignore Constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms and empower a "Big Brother is Watching You" form of government. Examples:
- he'd promised to stand against secret governmental eavesdropping on citizens, but when it came time to vote, he voted to increase and expand the eavesdropping;
- he'd claimed to support an individual’s right to own a gun, but he now says supports government’s right to regulate an individual‘s right to gun ownership.
- he’d claimed to back 100% pro-choice birth control; but he now is against the government’s allowing even partial-birth abortions;
- he assured us he would negotiate a better deal with NAFTA which would vitally help our economy, but he winked to the Canadian government that this was just political posturing and that NAFTA would remain unchanged, which virtually guarantees continued job losses;
- he’d promised to support merit pay for teachers, but he opposed it a few weeks ago before the union.

Those are some of the reasons Ricki and millions more are so adamantly against the dangers that a Barack Obama as potential president would be to us, our children, and of course our country. We need more Ricki Liebermans to help safeguard our

Hillraisers and the like can't see the forest through Hillary's legs . . . . taking this to the "wall", when they have lost (which is the case), will wind-up with squat / nada / goose egg - no voice, no power, no friends . . .. nothing.

Politics 101 - keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer . . .

Pissing-off the majority rule (power structure in the DNC) gets you nowhere and the Clinton's won't even offer to protect you, or provide you with "cover" after it's done.

It's hardly a wonder that Clinton would want to distance herself from Lieberman. Her theories are so far fetched that they suggest her concerns are not based on patriotism, the Democratic Party, or Clinton's welfare. If Lieberman were really loyal to Clinton, who has explicitly asked her constituents in public to support Obama, she'd end this strange crusade.
My pet theory for this behavior stems from a general impression about some of Clinton's more avid followers, which is that she represents for them a chance at some sort of revenge. Clinton often has been treated savagely by a large part of the media. The Republicans threw everything they had at Bill and Hillary during Bill's two terms, seeking to publicly destroy them. Were Hillary to become President, Lieberman and others of her ilk could put themselves in Hillary's shoes and see themselves as having gained retribution for some unknown crimes against themselves.
I admit to dabbling in pop psychology on this one, but that's the impression I infer from reading some of Lieberman's excerpted comments.
