Fiorina

Wall Street Journal:

The McCain campaign dispatched its top female surrogate Tuesday to meet with about 25 disaffected supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton in Westchester, N.Y.

Carly Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard Co. and a top adviser to Republican Sen. John McCain, met with the former Clinton backers at a private home for more than an hour and a half. Fiorina said in an interview that over glasses of iced tea and finger food, she fielded questions from Democratic women she described as "intensely uncomfortable with the notion of a President Obama.''

Both McCain and his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama have both been courting the 17 million or so people who voted for the New York senator during the primary season.

The Westchester meeting came at the behest of former Clinton supporters, some of whom have said - adamantly - that they won't support Obama. Polls show Obama winning the majority of support from women voters while about a quarter of ex-Clinton supporters are leaning toward McCain. The meeting wasn't stocked with typical voters, however. These were prominent activists and fund-raisers, including several known as "Hillraisers,'' who raised more than $100,000 for Clinton during the primary season. "I didn't ask how many of them were Hillraisers but certainly a number of them were,'' Fiorina said.

Nor, Fiorina said, did she ask the women whether Clinton knew they had arranged the meeting with her. Clinton has endorsed Obama and urged her supporters to help defeat McCain.

II'm waiting for that "change" I keep hearing about!

But it is reassuring to see some things never change...Obama supporters and their sexist remarks! That's a way to garner votes from women!

What's so strange is that by going with McCain, they are going against everything Hillary stood for. I don't understand how they could turn against the principles that she fought so hard for all these years. It's baffling.

McCain thinks rapeis a joke; he thinks wome who usemake up are "c*nts;" he intends to appoint judges to th Supreme Court who will end Roe V. Wade and criminalize all forms of abortion (including contraception). Thank you PUMA ad other Hillraisers who intend to set back the women's movement a hundred years.

I'M NOT DEFENDING McCAIN!!! But I should mention that your points would be more effective if you confirmed your facts. 1) I think you're right about McCain's view of rape. 2) He didn't use the c-word in reference to Cindy's makeup -- the makeup "earned" her the comparison to a "trollop". His calling her a c*nt seemed to be a separate issue. 3) So far Bush is the only name I've heard in reference to redefining "abortion" to include many types of contraception. Actually, if McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush as much as people think he is, he'd better steer clear of the "redefining abortion" thing.
So many women are still unaware of McCain's stand on Roe v. Wade (overturning it by naming Supreme Court justices who agree with his position). Please start writing Letters to the Editor in your local newspapers about this. We've got to educate as many women as possible!!

To all "disaffected Hillraisers" thinking about supporting McCain:

If McCain wins, good luck with all your causes for the next 50 years or so.

It will be easy for them to move over to McCain since Obush has now taken up all of the neocon's positions.

Actually, I think you have hit the nail on the head. Jealousy is a prime motivator with these women. That and their ego. They were important when they were working for H'illary. Now they feel like their glory was taken away from them and they are trying to find something to replace it.

I wonder how many people understand Fiorina was a failure that was run off by Hewlett Packard after a brief stint.

Fiorina was not merely a failure at the respected Hewlett-Packard, but a colossal failure, who's methods and paranoic management style were repudiated by more ethical board members. Now she's out positioning herself with the laughable McCain, telling women that McCain's on their side, despite his support for overturning Roe v. Wade and for Bush's proposal equating contraception with abortion. Hopefully, her audiences are smarter than she presumes them to be.

Fiorina is one of the most hated people in the tech industry. You mentioned her name on many tech blogs and you will get a few expletives coming your way.

She single handedly almost destroyed HP. She called for a merger with Compaq despite the disapproval from the board; She turned a profitable HP into a company that struggled under her tutelage. She shipped good paying jobs overseas. HP flat out hates her.

And although she almost singlehandedly destroyed HP, they gave her a severance package worth over 20 million dollars.

She and all of JMc's staff are not living in everyone else's reality. I couldn't f*ck up that bad, be fired and still leave with a huge severance package. Shes the one who said no American is entitled to a job....(least of all her) She is totally incompetent.

No you won't. You'll do what the evangelicals tell you to, with the full support of the supreme court. Of course, you will find someway to blame that on O as well.

I'd suggest therapy, but under a McGoo administration, you won't be able to afford therapy or healthcare.

I don't understand this. Why isn't it brought up more how big of a mistake she made with the HP/Compaq merger? And she is giving advice on economic policy.

Maybe one of those 25 had a secret camera and the conversation will be posted on YouTube. I would love to see the spin that was generated by Fiorina.

Hell, she's lied enough about McCain's record in public to women's groups; imagine how much lying she does when the press isn't around.

I hope they become republicans; they will feel right at home. The democratic party is attempting to rid itself of people with racial "issues", which these women obviously have. Again, I hope they are not foolish enough to disrupt the convention. They have no clue...............

Why do you bring up "racial issues" as a reason why these ex-Hillary supporters refuse to support Obama as the next President. Is everyone who is not an avid Obama fan automatically a racist? I'm sick of these loose accusations of racism being flung around indiscriminately. This isn't the primary season anymore, and white guilt won't work as a campaign tool in the wider population.
