Democratic internal polling shows John McCain's votes against insurance coverage for birth control have tremendous resonance with women, including independents and Republicans. Planned Parenthood puts those polls to the test with a new ad, featuring McCain's painful response to a question on the issue:

Yeah, I saw that about an hour ago. Disturbing that these Republicans want to send us back to the 18th century. They seem terrified of progress.

Several problems with the WH reasoning:
49% is not a majority. But even if you believe that human life begins at conception, the fact is that all common contraception methods PREVENT conception from occuring. the only exception to that would be the "Morning After" pill RU-486.

plan B and RU-486 are two different medications. plan B is the morning after pill, and RU-486 is the abortion pill.

go figure...McCain knows little about Viagra or birth control? My guess is that he knows much more about the former than he's willing to let on...

interesting that he's so hot on doing town hall-styled debates when it's been demonstrated on a number of occasions that he can't think on his feet very well.

I am impressed with how often this video has been viewed. This has to be the longest amount of "dead air" allowed to go on without a voice over interrupting that I have ever seen. The silence, in this case, has actually been respected; it shows the full incompetence of this candidate.

That video should be replayed ad nauseum.

They need to include the part where he says he can't remember his vote.

There also should be an ad with a clip of McCain confusing Shia and Sunni and Lieberman correcting him with a whisper in his ear.

And another with McCain saying there's no disagreement with Bush on Iraq.

And another with McCain thinking Czechoslavakia still exists.

and how bout a whole bunch showing all of McCain's flip-flops?

I think this ad would be more effective if they said something about the fact that he DID vote AGAINST it but now is capitulating on this question -- which, if he has "convictions" either way, should be a quick and easy answer.

If this guy can't come up with anything resembling a reasonable answer to a fairly simple question, how in the hell do most Americans believe that he is the man "we" want with his finger on the button?
You can almost see the smoke coming out of his ears as his brain gets overloaded.

I honestly don't think that "most" Americans believe this.

When you use the word "most," I don't think it means what you think it means.

Wonderful to watch--this should make any self-respecting woman want to hurl. He also doesn't believe women are entitled to the same pay for the same work a man does. What a dinosaur.

I cannot find any ethical reason why *contraception* should not be covered by health insurance. The only "reasons" why someone would vote against it would be religious reasons or money, as in health insurance companies would loooove not paying for something that just about every young woman uses.

No matter what you think about Planned Parenthood or abortion, contraception and sex education (and education, period) are extremely important to the health of families, sustaining our resources on this planet, and insuring women can choose a future that is right for them. It's the ethical thing to do.

yeah, but doesn't john mccain (and the ins. co's) know that birth control is WAY vheaper than preganancy and the children they'll now have to pay for. birth control is also used to medical reaons other than contraception, such as for hormonal problems, dysmenorrhea, irregular cycles, etc.

also note that congress passed laws requriing ins. co's to cover viagra and other ED drugs, as well as medicare and medicaid. (thanks to the lobbying of the makers of viagra). it really blew up in their faces though when it was discovered that convicted sex offenders were getting free viagra through medicaid.
