Dominic West On Working With Julia Roberts: "No One Seemed To Enjoy It"

Dominic West, the underappreciated lead of the HBO show "The Wire", gave an interview to today's London's "Guardian" (the fifth season is about to debut in the UK) and talked about working with Hollywood actresses Renee Zellweger (he implies she doesn't eat) and Julia Roberts.

On his role opposite Julia Roberts in "Mona Lisa Smile":

"The movie didn't make much sense. We would be given new scenes to film out of the blue which, it transpired, had been written by Julia's agent, who was doubling as a producer," he says. "I don't know what anyone was doing there. No one seemed to enjoy it. Especially not Julia. She had just got married and just wanted to be off having sex with her husband. Trouble was, she had married the cameraman on the movie. You can't really relax in a sex scene when the husband is staring right at you."

On costarring in "Chicago" opposite Renée Zellweger:

"I learned a lot from working with her," he said. "She was so tough. I would hear the director say, 'Cut' and then wait for instructions; she would demand another 15 takes until she was absolutely happy with the scene. These leading ladies have it tough: they have to be girly enough to remain attractive but retain a steeliness to get their own way too. Plus, they seem to starve themselves all day to stay in shape."

Seems like some people just need to learn how to keep their mouth shut. Got it Dominic West? Anyone who's ever watched any of the Behind the Scenes features on HBO with regard to the Wire would have realized West is clearly an arrogant jerk a long time ago.

Look is anyone else running around talking about you Dominick? It's not like the two women in question were jerks. One wanted to have sex with her husband and the other didn't eat.

How exactly is any of that relevant to the movie? Who does that effect other than them? Then yeah maybe you should keep your mouth shut and let them have their lives.

Yes. Quite. To be sure. Julia Roberts? An ice princess wearing a warm gal mask. Sure who didn't like those big goofy teeth, lips eyes and nose at first. But C'mon. There are better actors in any mall. The fact that I took the time to write an opinion about something so insignificant makes me = loser.

When I was a little girl and would listen to mom/dad watch the Miss America contest, daddy would always say someone had a "Horsemouth" which as a little girl listening in, I gathered then that wasn't an attractive look.

It wasn't. The headline was misleading. Dominic was actually sympathetic to Julia.

Julia has one of the better reputations in Hollywood anyway. Most said she's great to work with, and mean it.

I also was annoyed at the one last week that said "Media Outlets Slam Fox for Doctored NY Times Photos" and then the story was about only a single media outlet... the one that broke the story! (I was hoping for more.)
