NY Times :

A tough Iraqi general, a former special operations officer with a baritone voice and a barrel chest, melted into smiles when asked about Senator Barack Obama.

"Everyone in Iraq likes him," said the general, Nassir al-Hiti. "I like him. He's young. Very active. We would be very happy if he was elected president."

Will we have to ask John McCain if it is okay for Iraqi people to like Obama?

The HuffPo editors are taking a big risk on this one. They're hoping that readers won''t bother to read the entire article, since it requires registration with the NYT.

I encourage all you Obamaphiles to take a look. The General is nowhere near as complimentary as the headline and excerpt might suggest.

What's your point?
I could care less if Iraqis like Obama or not.
Or whether they want us to stay there or not.
You want the occupation to continue; you should enlist. Or one of your kids.
I'm sure the Iraqi general will appreciate that. After, he eventually abandons his post like they all do...

I want us out of there as soon as possible and I'm not alone...

"I could care less if Iraqis like Obama or not.

Well, it's kind of the point of the HuffPo article, isn't it? That the Iraqi Army likes Obama BETTER?

That's my point: They Don't.

And regarding your remark about my enlistment: Lets make that a rule. From now on, only enlisted people are allowed to have an opinion about the war. If you want to make another anti-war remark, YOU have enlist. Otherwise, keep it to yourself.

Promise me that, and you'll never hear another peep about the war out of me.

It's strange, how people who have never served, want to force those that have, into a surrender.

nor is he anywhere near as negative as you imply.

Well the article said that middle class Iraqi's believe Obama's pullout plan won't work, and that it will lead to chaos in Iraq.

not really l glowing recommendation.

It is gonna be fun watching the GOP spin this into 'proof' that it means terrorists support Mr. Obama.
You know they will spin it in that direction.

I sure do miss the America that was before Nixon arrived.

he's gonna spin it some how! dont worry!

He doesn't have to.

Because iif you read the WHOLE story:

"But mention Mr. Obama’s plan for withdrawing American soldiers, and the general stiffens.

'Very difficult,' he said, shaking his head. 'Any army would love to work without any help, but let me be honest: for now, we don’t have that ability.'"
03:59 PM on 07/17/2008
"Many Iraqis also acknowledge that security gains in recent months were achieved partly by the buildup of American troops, which Mr. Obama opposed and his presumptive Republican opponent, Senator John McCain, supported."
07:37 PM on 07/17/2008
Strange way to portray security. If there is 1 cop on each block and violence isn't controled you keep adding more cops until violence is halted. Now, what have you gained unless you plan on keeping the same level of cops indefinitely.
Does this explain McCains 100 year occupation?
The problem is the Iraqis political divisions, tribal issues, religious divisions to the point they do not know who the other uniformed person will fight for and against.

Well we know that's one view that the MSM won't publicize will they?

I love that themedia is making a big deal out of this as they should. I fear they are gonna be hawks for any kind of thing/event that can be construed as a "blunder" on Obama's part. I think this is what the MSM wants. I hope (and suspect) these countries for the most part, will love Obama as most people do. Also, that everything goes well for Obama.
