CNN:

John McCain devoted a substantial chunk of his town hall meeting Thursday to drawing contrasts with Barack Obama on health care policy, stressing his opposition to the presumptive Democratic nominee's health care plan and noting the "great difference" between them on abortion.

McCain's strongest denunciation of Obama came when discussing the Democrat's health care plan, which would cost $50-65 billion per year but would not mandate insurance coverage for all adults, only children.

"My friends, we've seen this movie before," McCain said. "It was called 'HillaryCare' back in 1993, and we're not going to do it again. We're not going to have the government take over the health care system in America."

BO's plan is modeled after HRC's failed plan and it won't work. Even she said that. Her new one with mandates would have worked. Like car insurance, mandates are the only way to achieve universal healthcare, stop abuses and reform the system.

It's true that everyone needs to be "in" in order for universal coverage to work. But there are various ways to get there. You can try to mandate everyone in, but as in car insurance in California, 15% of the population who drive still do not have it. So just having a mandate doesn't completely solve the problem. Massachusetts has had some problems implementing their mandates, so it's a somewhat complicated process and there are rather substantial political barriers to putting forward a mandate for adults as the first step out the door. The key elements are making insurance available and affordable and then reassessing whether or not your risk pool is skewed and you need to utilize the mandate approach. Whatever you think, Obama has a much more comprehensive plan than McCain!

Clinton never had a "failed" plan because the plan was never implement. How can something fail that never happened?

The simple truth is that the dems want to get the insurance companies out of healthcare, and the insurance companies don't want to go—so they pay the republicans to lie to people. Let's remember who the good guys are.

If this is all the criticism Obama gets on his health plan by McCain, he can knock it out of the ballpark. The tired old canards about "government takeover" don't resonate as much as they used to, as more and more Americans desperately want to have access to health care they can afford. . Hillary's plan in 1993 was NOT a government takeover; Obama's proposal in 2008 is not either. In fact, Obama was criticized during the primary for not "forcing" adults to purchase health insurance! The not so secret problem with McCain is that he really has NO plan for helping the 47 plus million Americans who are without insurance to get it. I look forward to the debate between Obama and McCain on health care. What's depressing about this town hall report is how little it contributes to the real discussion on health care reform. I think we ought to demand a more intelligent discussion on these issues. Sure health care reform is complicated and it gets a bit wonky at times, but it touches almost every one of us in our daily lives as we struggle to get coverage, or if we have it, to get the care we need.

So, how's that working for all you PUMA gals? LOL. What a joke. And just a day after Carly Mc Cain's out courting the Hill Cats. That is one disconnected, off the rail campaign.

Does McCain actually think people are buying this after this past primary season?

The differences in Obama's and Clinton's health care plan were basically the biggest difference between their two platforms. That was pretty much echoed everywhere.

Seems like a really strange way to try to court Hill's voters.
