It may be the blogosphere's equivalent of the scarlet letter, and the organizers of Netroots Nation, a gathering of liberal bloggers that is taking place this week, say they will be more than happy to pin it on Fox News.

Planners of the conference want to force representatives of the cable news network to wear credentials identifying them as opinion media rather than providing them with the regular press passes other news outlets will receive.

Do all you DimLibs really think the rest of us care what YOU think of us and Fox News. Clearly Fox News doesn't care. Label them however you want, they will continue to kick everyones butt in the ratings.

Keith Olbermann and the rest of MSNBC are more of an "opinion media" than Fox News, but since they reflect YOUR opinion, they're OK.

Fox news : Purely a propaganda organization ..& bunch of LIARS ...One cant discuss issues with any rationale or common sense with these A**es ... To counter this perception by many they resort to statements like "Fair & balanced" & that is an outright lie ... Fox only attracts those who dont think but just buy the propaganda or the talking points put out & run with it ... So those elected by these sheeps know that no matter what all lies told by the leaders are accepted by the sheep ...no matter how outrageous ...

The only reason Repugs talk about God etc cuz just like republican party ..The relegious leaders run their sheep with iron hand ...no dissent is accepted ...follow or they kick you out ...You disagree with them they ban you ...Just like the Repugs like Booosh control their meetings, public appearances ...They all talk about freedom but they deny you that or free expression ...or speech ...

Fox rely on the fact that majority of sheep dont think so repeat the lies enoug time & they will buy into it ... Lazy & cluless citizens will elect INCOMPETENT LEADERS & that is what we have ...

Amen

One of the reasons that large corporations like to take over the media is, not only because of controlling the message to the American people that helps manipulate the public to buy their products, but because of the tax incentives that news organizations get. Not only are they distorting and not releasing the news we should be getting, but they are getting tax benefits to do so. Why should dribble on Entertainment Tonight or the propaganda on Fox get any tax benefit. Time and again Fox proves that it is part of the propagandizing Republican machine of this administration. I am sickened by how long it took for people to realize that these so called experts on Fox have meetings in the White House, go straight to Fox afterward, and all repeat the same party line. They have used to excellent effect to just repeat a story, no matter if it is false, enough times and everybody will believe it. Fine Fox. Tax Fox. Boycott Fox. Suspend them from air time. They have done this country and the world an incredible evil by marketing the words of this corrupt administration. Murdoch should go to jail for aiding in propaganda.

The funny thing is, this idea was created by fellow HuffPo blogger and host of The Young Turks Cenk Uygur who was invited on Keith Olbermann's Countdown last summer to discuss it! http://www.theyoungturks.com/story/2008/7/18/10529/3014

Fox will have two sides of the story on a paticular segment, but then the moderator will invariably sum up the discussion with a right-wing talking point.

Right-Wingers, paticularly those on Fox, but also Limbaugh, Hannity etc., seem to have a bottomless need to disseminate their views to captive audiences. Who in their right mind would go on the air day in and day out (LimbaughHannity) for twenty years to denigrate a group of people, liberals. You would have to be crazy or a fanatic.

I would have just labeled it "propaganda" but "opinion media" is the polite form of that so why not.

"Opinion Media" is the perfect name for Fox News because they are anything but "fair and balanced." Fox News, The Republican News Network, wouldn't get branded with tags from the left if they quit trying to sell themselves as something they are not. They should accept their conservative slant and advertise that way instead trying to convince people otherwise. The fact that some people still believe Fox News is good journalism is a testament to how well their Hitleresque network wide brainwashing campaign works on people. You tell people over and over again that something is one way when it is really another and people will eventually believe it. The willingness of people to believe in utter nonsense should never be underestimated because most of us with regards to our thinking are sheep by nature. God Bless those few bold teachers and professors who constantly fought to challanged us to think critically even during those times when it wasn't deemed fashionable.

Even opinion media is too good for Faux news. Lets go with propaganda media for the republicant party. Like Tass news agency was to the soviets...only without the capital T

OK, if it was then I owe her an apology. So I'm sorry Molly, stories about Fox always get me more angry than is good for me.

Wow. And all these years I thought that Fox was just a mindless propaganda machine working to keep neo-cons in power through lies, near truths and political filth mongering. Thanks for the update Molly! By the way, the rule is simple, "i" before "e" except after "c". Life is so full of little ironies.

...wholeheartedly without ever having to think or learn or consider or ever be challenged.

Fox makes it so easy. Just open, swallow, and go mmmmm-mmmmm.

Opinion Media is too soft for FNC, I would have given them "Tabloid Media" passes.

Most media today is opinion media...no one can claim what one reads on Huffpo or Daily Kos is objective reporting.

As is said, if the shoe fits..........................................................................................................................................

There's very little news on any televised news unless you consider celebrity gossip, dieting, and what the anchors did over the weekend news.

cnn is just as bad. watch the news any given night. lets spend 2 hours in the situation room talking about what obama said or his campaign manager or what mccain said or his campaign manager. i turned all cable news off a few months ago and never been happier. cable news tries to stir controversy and divide up the left and right and groups within their party. they are opinion news channels all of them.
