There is a sense of elation in the Obama campaign as it was announced that their candidate raised $52 million in June. It's a massive haul for the presumptive Democratic nominee -- $3 million short of the historic mark he hit earlier in the cycle but much larger than the $22 million that John McCain brought in this past month.

The majority of donations, Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe wrote in an email to supporters, were of the small variety, with the average amount being $68.

An aide to the Senator was ecstatic when asked about the June numbers and said of an earlier Wall Street Journal report that Obama had raised "only" around $30 million: the paper is "embarrassed."

Greg Sargent at Talking Points Memo noted that the June haul puts Obama on track to achieve his goal of raising $300 million during the entirety of the general election - a total needed to match the likely loot of McCain and the RNC. And yet, Obama and his allies at the DNC still lag behind their counterparts. The Democrat has $72 million on hand, compared to the roughly $100 million brought in by the GOP.

"We remain at a massive disadvantage to our opponents," Plouffe wrote in an email before asking for additional $25 donations. "As I mentioned in my video message earlier in the week, the McCain Campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank.

We can't stop now. It's going to take everything we've got to defeat John McCain and his allies in November."

UPDATE: The DNC follows suit and releases its fundraising figures. They're not quite Obama-esque, but they are fairly impressive for an organization that has been criticized over its lack of cash. Overall, in June, the DNC brought in more than $22 million and has more than $20 million on hand.

This means that, combined, Obama and the DNC have $92 million to spend at this point in time -- $3 million less than GOP.

O says small donors financing his campaign means that he can say "no" to big donors when they want some special favor. What do you think O owes you, as a small donor?

I, too, have been giving to Obama all along.

And I really don't expect anything of him other than to be a better president than we've had the last 8 years. Shouldn't be all that difficult for him since he's a superior human being to the Shrub in just about every way.

Some of us can do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. We do not do it for accumulating karmic credit.

I wish my candidate would advocate for my views in every way. I wish there had been no passage for the FISA bill, that Michael Mukasey had not been confirmed, and that impeachment proceedings were well under way as we speak.

Unfortunately, that's not the world I live in, and I have to try and make this world better as best I can. That's why I doubled my monthly contribution to the Obama campaign, because it's my best option to try and make the world a better place. That's why I think you should contribute all you can afford, and help all the more progressive candidates to victory in November. That won't make it a perfect world -- but that sure will make it better!

Doesn't matter because he promised to only use public money. Oh never mind, that was another Obama lie. Good for obama, earning more special intrest money than mccain...

Yes, I never believe anything that the MSM says about fund raising. It's always good to wait until the Obama campaign releases their numbers. They never leak that information.

W has a new position on diplomacy with Eyeran.

R!ce: "The point that we're making is the United States is firmly behind this diplomacy, firmly behind and unified with our allies and hopefully the Iranians will take that message,"

Three questions for McCane supporters:
So when did W’s inflexibility become so unacceptable for McCane? Before or after he agreed with Baker to put more troops in? Before or after he agreed with Sec. G*ates and Baker to have a dialogue with Eyeran?

He said W showed strength (campaign 2004) when he disagreed with the generals and critics to put more troops in Eyerack. Now he is inflexible and stubborn after he puts more troops into Eyerack AND wants a dialogue with Eyeran.

The Mac has a fragile ego. He is upset that Boosh is adopting O’s strategies instead of his own.

My advice to McCane is Boosh has to go with the winner and the smart guy. That will never be McCane.

McBush is so inflexible he refuses to accept that Czechoslovakia does not exist.

Face it one of the main problems with old men is their inflexible thought processes. That's the reason it's bad that McBush does not use a computer.

The majority of this money came before H R C "suspended" her campaign and O became the presumptive nominee, and BEFORE he started pandering to the far right, "refining" his positions on everything from Iraq, FISA, NAFTA, faith-based programs on the taxpayers' money, etc.

Since his real positions on the issues have come to light, donations have ground down to a crawl, which is why he's been groveling before H R C's big money donors, and moving even farther to the right, trying to get money out of their groups.

What are you talking about? This reporting period from from June 1-30. The last primary was on June 3 and she conceded shortly after. The FISA story broke the 2nd week in June.

Get your facts together.

Who gave?

Not me. Actually, I asked for my contributions back after the FISA flip flop.

With the Iraq flip flop, faith based initiative position, 2nd Amendment position, 8th Amendment position, anti-universal health care position, anti-public campaign financing position, and other well-publicized center-grubbing vote-pandering, it's obvious that Obama is a liar.

"Change you can believe in" is a LIE. He's not going to change a damn thing. You won't be able to tell his administration from any of the others that have preceded it. The corporations rule the nation today, they will rule it in 4 years. The health care system is broken today, it will be broken in 4 years. The US foreign policy is based on brute force now, and it will be in 4 years. The dollar is losing value today, and it will be losing value in 4 years.

And unless you are in the top 1%, you are worse off than you were 4 years ago and you will be worse off 4 years from now.

Obama is a liar when he tells you he's going to change ANYTHING.

That works both ways, but frankly Pelosi and to a lesser extent Reid appear to be on board, I hope so, the country craves progress, and were not getting it from the current junta

If Reid and Pelosi remain, don't expect big changes, that means the corporate wing is still in control.

I think O is the "party" ... Nance & Reid are catching much hell right now, from their own constituients!! If our democratic party wants to WIN, the old schoolers will NEED to listen ... that means they've got to follow O's lead ... he is the democratic FRONT runner now and it would behove Nance & Reid, which I think they got it, to support strongly our wonderful chance for that WH!
