Perhaps it's a fitting tribute to a country that wore the 'Biggest Polluter' crown for so long: a 130-foot, 50,000-lb replica of the Statue of Liberty, made entirely of foam and sprayed-on plastic. The company that commissioned the statue, however, wasn't trying to be ironic or make a point. They really thought it was a good idea to construct this thing - which is only 13 feet shorter than the original Statue of Liberty - made up of what the Sierra Club calls 'the ultimate waste product'.

YTB (Your Travel Biz) has commissioned the Beryl Martin Company of northwest Indiana to create the statue for YTB's travel convention, held in August 2008 in St. Louis. See the video . . .

I wonder how much of the cost they get to write off as a business advertising expense?

I thinl it's cool and a great reminder of how this society is drifting away from the very ideals that inspired France to gift us with the original statue. No longer do we universally welcome the tired, poor, huddled masses.

"Give us your myriad ways to make creative tax deductions while we pawn our ill-conceived polluting temporary art on some poor suckers."

What doesn't draw "outrage" from environmentalists?

They're not happy people.

I fail to see the connection of logic between the two sentences. Are they not happy people because they aren't outraged?

"Happy"

"feeling or showing pleasure or contentment"

Environmentalists are never content. They always will find something to get outraged about.

Show me a man who thinks environmentalists are an unhappy, depressing lot, and I'll show you a man who has NEVER BEEN TO BONNAROO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And if you don't know what Bonnaroo is, you have my deepest sympathies.

Not happy?

The day you realize we're actually trying to save the world from something - the day you recognize what that something is - and your own part in it - that's the day you'll understand we're not unhappy, we're just outnumbered by people who won't see the forest for the trees, and then you'll join us, and we'll be happy to have you.

Have a great day, friend.

LOL, you say you hate dirty hippies and then expect us to believe you went to Bonnaroo.

Lying on the internet is probably the easiest thing in the world to get away with and do, and you can't even pull that off!

"we're actually trying to save the world from something"

No you're not.

You're trying to force the world into a lifestyle of your choosing, and you're using fear as a weapon.
The world doesn't want to live like a bunch of dirty bitter hippies. We like meat, cars, air-conditioning, and plastic grocery bags.

Give it up already.

These days, who can blame them? These aren't "happy times," unless one is completely drunk on the Kool Aid.

I disagree. It is the drinking of the Green Kool Aid that fosters such unhappiness.

Humans today are healthier, more prosperous, and living longer, than anytime in history. Many diseases have been eradicated, and famine only occurs in a handful of Third World nations run by Socialists.

Things that used to be considered "Luxuries" are now in the hands of America's poorest, and the environment here is cleaner today than it has been in the past.

Of course, you will deny all these truths, and accuse me of being a corporate shill.

That Green Kool Aid is nasty stuff. I'd almost rather you were hooked on Meth.

I find it odd that conservatives are so against conservation. What is so outrageous is that people talk about being "humanistic" as an excuse for destroying the only planet that we have. This argument is self destructive. It's likening the human race to a cancer that consumes it's host until there is nothing left. FYI: The cancer dies at that point.

Environmentalists will only be as happy as the environment in which they live.

Carve into blocks and turn it into insulation for low-income homes -- of course, then there's the off-gassing.
