MediaMatters:

ABC News and The Washington Post issued staggered releases of the results of their latest poll, withholding from their first release results favorable to Sen. Barack Obama, including the finding that 50 percent of registered voters would vote for Obama for president versus 42 percent for Sen. John McCain. The next day, the Post ran an article headlined "Poll Finds Voters Split on Candidates' Iraq-Pullout Positions," which did not mention Obama's 8-point lead over McCain. Later that day, ABC News and the Post issued a second release with additional poll results that stated: "Obama continues to hold most of the advantages in the presidential race."

WaPo and ABC don't appear to hedging their bets. Doesn't anyone in the group have the brains to ask: What happens if, in spite of our best efforts, Obama wins and the Dems increase their majorities in the House and Senate? If we keep behaving like this will it impact our access? They show just about the same type of forward thinking as Bush & The Neo-Cons when they decided to invade Iraq.

They can't report it. they want people to think the race is close so that they will watch the news!
The news media is not anti Obama as much as they are pro close race for ratings.
it's embarrassing really.

Excellent point, albeit an unfortunate one.

I stopped watching the news .....catch some local and every night I check PBS...BBC.
I've had it. I have noticed this tactic of art of the word...the word game for awhile now. Well, actually I noticed it right after the primaries.

Corporate media folks.......makes you sick, don't it.

I still think the most harm is done with the sound bits on local news. IMO the undecided voter is undecided because they aren't watching MSM...they are busy, or they don't care...but...they do catch the soundbites from the local evening news. It's horrible...most of the time it's just wrong info...and it's always...always slanted in McCains favor...at least here in Philly.

McCain slams Obama........Obama desperate to ........McCain jumps....Obama struggles...McCain crushes...Obama attacks. ...McCain showed confidence....Obama struggled to ......
They put a spin on things, they edit the video.....wow...I sit there and wonder what speech or event they were watching?
They do their best to make Obama look weak, inexperienced, clumsy.......just bad

Unbelievable....but the undecided voter....also the elderly are watching their local news they are eating it up. It's influencing them.

Great post. Don't forget that a lot of people get a lot of their information from friends, family, churches, and colleagues at work. Remember how effective the Rovian machine was in getting evangelical ministers to distribute what were in effect Republican talking points.
I worked as a consultant in major companies. I couldn't believe the openly right wing and religious comments that people made at work at them. Your career is at risk if you rebut them with the facts or a different view.
Not all low information voters are stupid and/or apathetic. Some, particularly women who are working, taking care of the house, their children, and/or parents, just don't have time to listen to the news. They don't think it relates to their lives.
One of the challenges of the Obama campaign is to communicate to these voters, many of whom voted for Clinton. I applaud the campaign for opening community centers to reach this people who are rarely, if at all, on the Internet. other than for email. Viral marketing can be vocal as well as electronic.
By the way, I am a Clinton supporter but I thought the Obama campaign was for the most part brilliantly run from both the strategic and tactical viewpoints and communicated effectively. It should continue to be creative to reach voters who get their information from a variety of sources..
Maybe now that so many people are desperate they will take the time to seek out information and listen.

Case in point:

If all these comments are reasonably true, then McCain's victory s a forgone conclusion because the public is not getting truthful information. They are being pushed to what the media wants. I always thought the Washington Post was somewhat liberal. With them caving, what hope do we have?

Repeating a lie or falsehood over and over again it becomes true. Joseph Goebbels and Vladimir Lenin knew this priciple and I don't see how it is possible to avert it again. There is too much stacked against the forces of reason since now even the bulwarks of moderation have capitulated to the "dark" side.

Evey day it becomes shocking the level of effort that the media is putting to get mcbush elected. What we should ask ourselves is why is it ? What is it about Mr. Obama that the media doesn't like ? How could all the MSM act in unison ? What is it that they all have in common ?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Its infuriating but this is journalism in the good old U. S. of A

"What is it about Mr. Obama that the media doesn't like ?"

That is simple. Obama is not a Republican.

This is precisely why I hate MSM, passionately. This would include their fake "blogs".

MSN can’t be counted on for truth and fairness. They’re only reporting for their profits, which means doing whatever to boost them, that’s it. We all know this.

Bob Iger runs ABC/Disney and he is a big Bush worshipper. So this does not shock me in the least.

Again, make Disney pay by not frequenting their theme parks and not buying any Disney related merchandise.

Charlie Gibson is a Republican. This is mostly about the media talking heads firming up their public news cred rather than any affection for Obama.

What's paramount is Diebold Election Systems and Election Systems & Software and [others]. THIS is merely a distraction to avoid focus on what the GOP is literally going to do November 4, 2008.

The GOP is well aware of their candidate's capabilities. They have to "tamper" with inevitable results.

and we can thank Dianne Feinstein for keeping those electronic voting machines for which there is no way to verify the tally in place.
