Conservative columnist Robert Novak reports today that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and former Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, have patched things up since Gramm made his clunky comments about the U.S. being "sort of...a nation of whiners," and in a "mental recession."

"Gramm apologized to McCain for his remarks that gave Democrats an opening against the Republican presidential candidate and provided several days of ammunition for blogs, cable television and radio talk shows," Novak writes. "McCain told Gramm not to worry about the expected pitfalls of a campaign surrogate. Gramm will continue as an adviser and surrogate. Gramm remained a steadfast supporter last year when it appeared that McCain's campaign had collapsed. McCain was a loyal backer of Gramm's failed 1988 campaign for president and did not leave until the candidate dropped out of the race."

Phil Gramm has done more to harm our nation than any single living individual other than G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney...

McCain proves he's no friend of the average America by simply associating with this swindler Gramm, let alone having him as his top economic adviser...and Guru...

It's really disgraceful and shows McCain has no empathy for his fellow Americans....McCain is a fraud a total fraud...

Why do we even listen to this horse manure?

Being poor is your own fault? Whaaaah? This is an economic policy?

Is *this* what we have to look forward to for 4 more years of this moldy rethuglican circus?

Bridges collapsing? more FEMA to the rescue? No more Social Security? Prices out of control? More massive "de-regulation"? More spinach-tomato-salsa-pepper-jalapeno scares? More surges? More death? More war? More lying? More Karl Rove? Push-lips the "elder statesman"?

And on top of it all -- this bozo??

Oh, please, America? Haven't you had enough??

Will Amricans forgive him and McBush when the we do away with Enron looholes and raise margins and the price of oil drops and Americans realize they have bee ripped off by them? Especially those that lost their Jobs. They already with his securitization of home loans and bank deregulations wiped out 20 trillion in home value in 12 months ...

Regards

He'd have to forgive him, wouldn't he? McCain would be completely lost without Gramm.

Senator McCain has forgiven and hugged his Economic Advisor, Phil Gramm.

Question: If Gramm could not make any money selling his soft-porn, why does McCain think the
man is a decent economist?

Please, people, don't allow this man, Phil Gramm, to continue the dismantling our freedoms which have been so hard earned over the last 200 years.

We cannot afford to go back to the 19th century when Gramm's economics were popular. It is a very different world today and we need young, modern, innovative leaders who understand the financiall markets, not blind ideologues who use ideology as an excuse for filling the pockets of their cronies.

Kick out the oligarchs!!!

Bottom line on these 2: nothing's changed. They just want it to blow over (but the comment represents how both feel of course).
