NEW YORK — Phil Gramm, a top adviser to presidential candidate John McCain, is resigning from the role as campaign co-chairman after his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" who constantly complain about the state of the economy.

The former U.S. senator from Texas and past presidential candidate made the remarks earlier this month. McCain immediately distanced himself from the comments, but they have been criticized constantly as McCain tries to show he can help steer the country past its current financial troubles.

Gramm had also suggested that the country was facing a "mental recession" instead of real economic problems. Gramm said in a statement late Friday that he is stepping down as a co-chair of the campaign to "end this distraction."

Gramm may be gone, but his financial policies remain -- he was just articulating what most conservatives, and especially Neocons, really and truly believe about the average American -- we're not as "grateful" to Big Business as we should be.

How obscene. Get a rope, for chrissakes!

More importantly, has Gramm stepped down as McCain's chief economic adviser? Why doesn't someone ask McCain about Gramm's influence on his economic policies, and why, if he disagrees with Gramm about his view of the economy, did he chose to seek his advise? Obama was hounded for months about his spiritual relationship to Reverend Wright yet no one asks McCain about his economic relationship to Gramm. What was it about Gramm's economic record that impressed McCain? Was it the Enron Loophole, or the current Mortgage mess?

Translation: UBS is in trouble so I better lay low and distance myself from The Maverick so no one will notice.

So much for straight talk.

They didn't just "find out" about the porn.
That is old news.
More MSM protection for Republicans.

Smart move. I definitely wouldn't vote for McCain with Phil Gramm as an economics adviser. Enron, old school Reaganomics that have been proven again and again not to work. I don't suppose McCain would be smart enough to find a new school economics expert?

Isn't it funny that Phil Gramm could see his own need to leave John McCain's campaign, due to the damage he did, but John McCain could not seem to see that same problem.

Way to go John. Just more evidence that your are incapable of leading your own campaign let alone a country!

He doesn't look like a human to me either. maybe some kind of bear or something,
anyway graham is responsible for the " enron loophole" which was snuck in late at night when everyone else was gone, on another bill that had already passed. The "enron loophole" is what has allowed the Oil Speculators to run up the price of oil in the last few months, trading without any government oversight whatsoever in "dark markets" and wreaking ruin on the economy of the US. Whiners indeed!

Phil had better just get back to full-time plundering of our nation's wealth. He's better at that than government leadership.

And just to think the MSM was floating the idea this elitist a$$ was a potential Treasury Secretary.

You know where their hearts are.

How much better for everyone if he had resigned from the public arena thirty years ago. He has always been out of touch with reality, only now has it become too obvious to ignore.

So much damage he has done to our country and the world, because he waited until he was an old man to resign.

Gramm made these "whiners" remarks about two weeks ago, and they're just getting rid of him now? Is the McC campaign that slow-witted? They shoulda booted him out that day.
