NEW YORK — Phil Gramm, a top adviser to presidential candidate John McCain, is resigning from the role as campaign co-chairman after his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" who constantly complain about the state of the economy.

The former U.S. senator from Texas and past presidential candidate made the remarks earlier this month. McCain immediately distanced himself from the comments, but they have been criticized constantly as McCain tries to show he can help steer the country past its current financial troubles.

Gramm had also suggested that the country was facing a "mental recession" instead of real economic problems. Gramm said in a statement late Friday that he is stepping down as a co-chair of the campaign to "end this distraction."

Gramm's in, he's out, he's in, now he's out. McJohnnie's fired so many people in his campaign I've lost count. And he expects people to believe he can hire a functioning capable administration to run this country?

Luck is his companion, gambling is his game....

First he's gone, then he's back, now he's gone again. Apparently McCain is incapable of good judgement decisions. Can you imagine him as president? All you have to do is imagine his campaign is the country! First he'll send more troops to Iraq, then he'll pull them, then he'll send them to Afganistan, etc., etc. People who have doubts about Obama just need to seriously campaign how the two are running their campaigns, and when it comes right down to it, the GOP isn't even letting McCain run his own campaign because THEY don't even seem to think he's capable!

Be afraid...be VERY afraid.

MCCAIN IS AN OLD FART...

Who surrounds himself with other old farts. The technical name for a McCain Presidency would be a "gerontocracy" (government by old farts....)

nope, he's still going to be McCain's economic adviser after all.

this is better than a soap opera.

Supply side economics failed us miserably. Conservatives just hate sharing anything with anyone. Mind you I make 6 figures and I don't need their sympathy, but I believe that helping average people get on their feet makes a productive citizen who then pays taxes and contributes to society. I believe in a balanced approach with regulation that ensures that con men, like Abramoff, Rove and Gonzales are dealt with severely
What we need is just the right amount of regulation to keep the greedy thieves at bay while allowing hard working entrepreneurs to prosper. I consider myself a liberal but I reject the definition that Shawn Hannity, Michael Savage, Glen Beck and other morons have attributed to us!

We can't give everyone a free ride because who the hell will do the hard work, who will generate the prosperity, who will risk the investments. But by God, there comes a time when we agree to educate all, we agree to fix the freakin roads, we agree to provide libraries, and we damn well should agree to take care of our people! The American Health Care system sucks and millionaire Gramm has the freakin nerve to call us whiners?

We need to kick all the beltway boys out of Washington. We need to tell them their stinking hubris and arrogance needs to be replaced by ethical standards and common decency. We need to work as a nation for the good of the many and not the greedy few.

Right. Sure.

How far do you think he's going?

He'll continue to be an unofficial McCain surrogate.

And if McCain should make it to the White House, Gramm will be right there. As Secty of the Treasury.

God help us.
