House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

Memo to: Volvo, Hume, Dentuso, Kellygrrl, Thunderclap, LiberalBuzz, ErnestineBass, et al: Stop trashing people, just because they don't agree with you. How does that further any dialogue that you so "pretend" to embrace? You're not helping anything, you're destroying it! Why?

Oh yeah, I'll be posting this everywhere and every chance I get. Now, fess up, how many of you are getting paid from HuffPo or from other sources? C'mon, you can tell me....

Much of europe pays more than double what we do for a gallon of gas. They always have.

Much of the us has expanded under the notion that gas and driving would always be cheap, what a fairytale.

In Europe, there are NO oilmen running governments. I guess that's why gasoline is so much cheaper over there. Oh wait - it's even more expensive in Europe. So much for Pelosi's theory.

Pelosi is the most ineffective (and dumb) Speaker of the House that I've ever seen. She is largely responsible for Congress' approval rating now being at 9%. This is a record low approval rating for just about anything.

Look up "pay as you go"

We pay 9 dollars a gallon but our infrastructure is topnotch and up to date, unlike your crumbling nation.

You must read the HuffPost. America is actually quite nice. Unlike Europe - which is crumbling.

Yes, they pay more for gas. But they have virtually free healthcare, their bridges don't fall out of the blue and at least they understand that whatever mess is made in the present, their children will inherit so they engage is sustainable practices. Oh, and if there is a natural disaster they take care of their people. Wow! What a concept.

The "Europeans pay more for oil" cheap trick is not something you want to try right now.

Oh, now that the republicans have changed all the rules and systems in thier favour, you want to dismantle government before the democrats get in and change back to what the people want.

No thank you.

It's not the Amount of government that we have, it the fact that conservatives are running it.

Conservatives love to say "we are going to bankrupt the us government, till you can drowned it in a bathtub"

Remember, conservatives are quite clear that government doesn't work, and every time the get in power they prove it.

Look up the Swedish "middle Way" They have a higher standard of living then we do, and have for decades.

OK. I admit it. I'm actually part of the reason oil prices are expensive. I could have biked to work more often. I could have chosen a car that gets better mileage but lower horsepower. I could have used less tupperware in my life, but it would have been inconvenient. I could have gone for copper pipes instead of PVC in my home. I could have rejected all of the petroleum-derived products, but I just thought they made my life convenient.

I wish I could make myself feel better by blaming other people, but I am actually part of this problem. I apologize. I hope history can forgive me. If you are also part of the problem, maybe we could work together to fix it?

Ms. Pelosi, it is true what you have stated but what the hell you're going to do about it? 'Impeachent of the Table' will be next to your name in the dictionnary. You can't keep wringing your hands..or can you?

Her stetment is political and far from the truth. 35 years of bad energy policy is to blame for the situation we are in, and nobody in washington is doing or going to do squat about it.

Pelosi seems to think that if she just makes a strongly-worded statement every few weeks on some issue she knows has the public's attention, she's off the hook. Words are cheap, we want action.

You said it perfectly. It's time for some real action but I do enjoy her exposing the dictators in the regime for what they are though.

How can those who attribute them self to the Republican party be so naive/brainwashed/stubborn to believe that more drilling will do anything significant? Nearly all experts agree that 1.) it will take a minimum of 10 years to yield any results and 2.) ten years from now China and India will be consuming more than enough oil to negate any influx of oil into the market.

In other words, drilling will do little to nothing for gas prices.

Not to mention, the Republicans scream for more drilling and the kill bills that mandate more drilling.

In other words, they're lying, disingenuous hypocrites.

Gee Nancy, nice speech. You can add it to all the others you've made about Republican hegemony being the root cause of all America's problems, whilst letting them truck right along without a care in the world.

f you and the other wet blanket Democrats had actually stood up to Bush and Cheney like you were elected to do, the country might be not be in such a mess.

For a supposed "lame duck" Bush still seems to get get his way remarkably often (read every time.) The Republicans went after Clinton with everything they had at the end of his presidency, and he far more popular than Bush. Why haven't you returned the favour?

Pelosi needs to stop worrying about herself and start thinking about the rules of law. Not going after impeachment is collusion. Its grounds for her removal. Either she gets off her butt and starts doing her job or the public demands her removal. She cannot protect those who have committed war crimes, crimes against hummanity, his own people, the economy, treason, perjury. What the hell do they have on her? They must have something on her or have threatened her for her not to persue it. Which is it Nancy?

Ummm.... most of the Democratic house and congress are guilty of drifting toward the center in their political decisions. They talked themselves in to going along with some of the Bush administrations policys back when they didn't have any power. Because they didn't want that gawd awful label that the republicans have used successfully for years that seems to cripple democrats....Liberal. Ever since Regan used it to pound home to voters that liberals are people who like to support anti-religious values and liberals are anti-american.
I don't disagree with you that our democratic controlled congress needs to be shaken up a bit. I do think that we should get Obama in to the whitehouse first, then we should work on our lawmakers.

If this empty dress wants to call Bush "...a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people...," all I can say is, it takes one to know one.

As I understand, Pelosi was briefed on Abu Ghraib and Warantless Wiretapping BEFORE the stories broke.

THAT's why impeachment is off the table. She is complicit.

What does that have to do with an obstructionist Republican party blocking oil drilling while blaming the democrats for doing nothing?

What does that have to do with Bush comitting war crimes?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:36 PM on 07/18/2008

The Democrats cannot gather enough backbone to say no to Bush's illegal activities, let alone punish him. They passed the unconstitutional wiretapping legislation he wanted.

Since Nancy was only made Speaker of the House in 2007, pray tell (I want verifiables) how she was "briefed" , since Abu Grahib outing happened in 2005 and Wireless Wiretapping began in 2001. And - Repugs were in charge of the Senate and House. Please share hese "sources".

You are repeating lies of the reichwingnut bottom feeders. Check your information. The Democratic Congress started in 2006. The more likely answer is that the wiretapping has some dirt from illegal wiretapping and blackmail by the thugs in the crime family. Speculation and projection can work both ways. At this point in time, the thugs have been in control and still veto and block justice at every corner so your blaming Congressman Pelosi is so juvienile and stupid it is obscene.

If the tables were turned, the Repubs would be using every tool available to advance their agenda and block the Dems. Remember the "nuclear option?" The Dems truly are spineless whiners.
