Speaker Pelosi: "Two Oil Men In The White House" To Blame For Gas Prices

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

Wow I didn't know that the republican dominated Senate has turned down bills that would have controlled the price of oil? Im also not at all surprised that the oil companies have over 70 million acres of land including over 30 million acres of offshore property to drill oil and yet have not even attempted to try and drill?

And why doesn't Boosh release some of our oil reserves to offset the rising cost and the increase demand of oil in country? Pelosi mentioned that those reserves are saved for a crisis. WE are now in a crisis and yet the Boosh administration is not releasing those to the nation. Why???

I'm very upset at all this. Republicans and Boosh have pointed the finger at the democrats and congress. I thought they had a point in trying to go after offshore drilling. But come to find out they are the ones that have dropped the ball and should be blamed for gas crisis that is polarizing our country.

What can we as honest citizens do to stop these criminals in the whitehouse from doing what their doing? We need to arrest them all and put them in jail.

Brighter side- you need to do a little research. Where do your numbers come from re acres that oil companies have? In the GOM (excluding CA), the industry has just under 40 MM acreas leased, DO you know what a lease is? It is the right to exlore, for which oil companies bid competitively according to law and regulations. We explore with seismic first -the majority of acreage is condemned with seismic i.e the probablity of hydrocarbon deposits is disproven. Cos. spend millions of $ doing so then when a well is drilled to test a prospect, most of the time it is a dry hole. The rig count is at a 22 year high- every serviceble rig is drilling. The Dems in congress have voted against every reasonable bill to increase production for at least the last 20 years, now the chickens have come home to roost and you think the repubs are finger pointing? Congress has had over 40 hearings looking for a place to point the finger havet hey blamed themselves even a little?

as you or I may not currently agree with it, but there are scientist and geologist out there who say that oil is not as finite as oil companies want us to believe. It was made over time, yes, but time, and the chemical break down and enormous pressures of the earth that makes oil do not end. If they do, oil would be the last of our problems. Oil is an ongoing process, its just slower than we would like.

Why does it keep getting more expensive to recover?

The biggest oil fields are found in rock surrounding huge ancient crater sites. It was formed in super nove explosions and delivered here by comets. Titan, a moon of Saturn has a surface made mostly from hydrocarbons....oil and gas are a form of hydrocarbon. When it rains.....it pours hydrcarbons [liquid methane] and there are rivers and oceans of it there.
