CNN:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

Well to sum it up progressives believe in a healthy and vibrant economy. But an economy that is controlled by rules and regulations by government. In a sense progressives believe in fair trade. Trade which are controlled in a certain degree in which one country doesn't have an advantage over another.

Boosh, McCain and their economic advisors push for a free trade policy. In my opinion this sounds like a great idea but it hasn't worked. Free trade has racked up an imbalance of trade with China. We are flooded with a bunch of Chinese crap in the market and we have also shipped jobs overseas numbering in the millions because of free trade.

Free trade and this imbalance of trade with China has allowed them to get rich off of Americans. And since we can't finance the war in Iraq, we have to borrow from them. Our money which we gave to them, has to be borrowed from them in order to pay the Iraq war.

What's worst is that because of free trade, corporations decide to move their operations overseas to China or India. There they receive tax breaks from our government, can take advantage of cheap labor, and can ship their goods to our shores without having to worry about regulatory measures since free trade is a government policy.

I think its time to get back to being a progressive economy once again. We can't afford to lose more jobs due to free trade.

Well. you're the one who said impeachment was off the table. Between you Reid and the rest of the Demorats, except for Waxman and Kucinich, you don't have a pair of balls or a spine between you and by this time next year you will all be back home sucking your thumbs and wetting your beds when Cheney and company declares martial law and dissolves congress. You Democrats make Chamberlean and Quisling look absalutely heroic.

The country would be in much better condition if Pelosi spent as much time on the people's business as she spends on getting her Botox treatments, her hair styled and her cosmetic dentistry.

If impeachment was not taken off the table by Pelosi then maybe we would have an administration who acknowledged there was an energy problem to begin with and sought solutions.

It's too late to impeach the SOB, let's just get him for war crimes as soon as he's out of office. Someone in the world will be happy to help us with that I'm sure.

It's NOT too late - that's a bunch of BS.

Nixon's impeachment took less than 90 days - and they had to do the investigations!

We've ALREADY got 35 articles to impeach with... There's PLENTY of time.

And besides, even if it runs the clock out, there's HUGE value in impeachment:

1) Might prevent WWIII / war with Iran

2) Lays down a marker for future presidents and at least BEGINS to say to the world that we're better than that.

3) Would prevent pardons to the criminals involved.

4) Could ensure the elections go through at all - without a false-flag event and martial law, etc. ...You should check out the unitary executive's self-proclaimed ability to declare martial law, suspend elections, take over ALL businesses and governments within the US (including tribal Indian governments) for 6 months with no review... CHECK IT OUT. He did this as an "executive order."
.

I don't care if its an elections year. I want an impeachment. Impeachment will mean that these scumbags cannot claim an executive order and we can press for war crimes sooner.

I don't want to ever see another show on TV showing our president as Boosh. He doesn't deserve it and cheated his way into the Whitehouse.

Why do my posts asking why nobody is mentioning the SOR keep not showing up? WHY isn't Bush opening up the Strategic Oil Reserve to help right the economy? If lack of oil is causing gas prices to rise, why not flood the market with oil so that the price drops and then buy it back cheaper to replenish supply?

the strategic reserve doesn't work as a means to manipulate market price. We're WAY better off having it as a, well, um, a STRATEGIC RESERVE.

You know, when the idiot in chief decides to attack Iran and all the oil is cut off? GOT IT?

Hare asked if 70% of Americans are that stupid.

One of the stories on HuffPo today is talking about Sarah Jessica Parkers' MOLE!!

A FREAKING MOLE PEOPLE! Who cares?! Starbucks is closing 900 stores, and your worried about a MOLE?

Who's not stupid?

speaker pelosi, had you done your duty to the american people, those "two oil men" would no longer be in the white house!

not to worry, though nancy . . . you and yours will always be able to fill their tanks, pay for their medical care, meet their mortgages, and fill their grocery carts . . . and, of course, they will be able to fund their children's educations, so they won't be shipping any young pelosi's off to fight and die for the neocon ideals and corporate interests of said "two oil men"

If Pelosi would attend to the people's business as much as she does to her Botox treatments, hairstylist and cosmetic dentistry, the Congress would have prevented half of the problems the country now has. She could start with impeachment.

I heard what Ms Pelossi had to say and could not agree with her more. What has been happening in Washington between the Congress passing these bills and the Senate not working at all is just despicable. The other issue is with the so called POLL. How accurate is this CNN poll? Are 70+% Americans really that ignorant and gullible?

Drilling in protected places is not good for the environment or the populations affected by such non sense. Even Drilling in allowed millions of acres is not going to bring your gas price down any time soon. What will bring it down the price is calling on the 2 oil guys and their other greedy friends to stop reaping off the country and its people.

Did G Boosh get elected (allegedly) twice? That answers your question. And by your reliance on statistics, you must certainly be for ending the war in Iraq and impeaching boosh since 70 % of Americans want that also.

It's a benefit/risk assessment especially for states like FL and CA. It's just not worth it to put the tourism industry in danger for a few extra barrels of oil.

This whole argument reminds me of the ant and elephant parable. In the best of all possible worlds offshore oil production would drop our dependence on foreign oil by 2.5%, but based on real projections in 10 years we would still be importing almost 10% more of our oil.

It just is a political con game that is a windfall for oil companies and will not lower gas prices a cent.

Bush isn't worried about impeachment. That is the last thing the Dems want to do at this point. The administration doesn't acknowledge an energy problem because its friends are making a lot of money at the moment. Bush's refusal to encourage the people to conserve hammered this home.

Coupla examples - Don't you recall that some 35-40% of Americans polled during the run up to Iraq's invasion thought Iraq or Saddam had a hand in the 9//11 attacks? (And whose fault was that misperception?)

Also, just last week saw a poll that indicates some 43% of Americans believe the republicans are in control in the Congress. (And whose fault is that current misperception?).

Can someone remind me what Speaker Pelosi's energy plan is? The one where she said,

“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”

So, what is the plan.

Price this week in many parts of the EU is well over $9.00 per gallon.

Also, according to the intro her comments were made yesterday to Wolfie Blitzen of CNN. Although tnat's not to say she didn't have similar comments ~ 18 mos ago when gasoline was $2.90 a gallon.

Yes, her commonsense plan was to raise taxes on oil companies and blame George Bush and Dick Cheney.

That didn't work so she tried making oil companies drill on land where oil drilling is not yet proven productive and to blame George Bush and Dick Cheney.

When that didn't work, she is now down to blaming George Bush and Dick Cheney.

Of course with Congress flying at a 9% approval rate (3x worse than Bush's) she apparently feels she doesn't have to do what American's are demanding: off-shore drilling. Of course, she could just hand it to the states, then California and Florida could decide for themselves, but that would be to much choice for the people.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:44 PM on 07/18/2008

I agree. It is up to the states to decide if they want to allow off-shore drilling. I'm about as Liberal as one gets, but I'm a big fan of state-rights and individual responsibility (i.e. conservation).

I think Barbara Boxer said this first on the floor with a nice big chart with this equation: 8 years + 2 oild men= $4.00 hr gas. Recently there was another big headline here on Pelosi about her statement about the definition of birth control and abortion and Bush slippery initiatives. Pelosi was behind HRC on that one too. She's seems to be the golden girl her, for now.

How could you love this traitor? She's protecting W and his administration. She's risking World War III - as would probably occur if W decides to attack Iran. She's risking massive pardons for huge crimes. She's an accomplice after the fact for all the crimes of this regeim. She's obstructing justice.

And for what?

Party before Country is Nancy's motto, apparently, and that's giving her a huge benefit of the doubt.

She MIGHT be being blackmailed, but if so, she should RESIGN - the speakership if not her seat - for the good of the country!

No one who loves Nancy P. is an informed patriot - except possibly her children or grandchildren.
