CNN:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

I notice that Queen Nancy is still flying to the west coast every weekend on an Air Force 757. Kinda big even for corporate standards. But as long as this oil thingy doesnt affect her personally I guess her attitude is............"Let them eat cake!"
She is goin down.

Who has the bigger carbon footprint, Nancy or Al Gore?

Leatherhelmet asks, "bigger carbon footprint, Nancy or Gore?"

Intro: [AlGore at the Academy Awards(R), standing at the podium, looks over at Speaker Pelosi, chuckles, grins, and says]:

"Nancy Pelosi. I sh&*% bigger than her".

Oh wait. That was Jack Palance.

And Billy Crystal.

If we started drilling right now in the protected areas, in five years when gas is at $8.99 and 9/10ths a gallon, we will be asking Congress to start drilling into teenagers acne for more oil.

If we are still as dependent on oil in EIGHT years when offshore oil will come on line BTW, we are doomed as a country anyway.

Actually that sounds like the stupid kind of joke McBush would make to not address the real problem.

Imagine if we had started drilling in 1995 and not been vetoed by President...? Anyone, Anyone?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:02 PM on 07/18/2008

It wouldn't have made much difference... maybe given us a year or two more below the $4 a gallon mark. There is not a lot of oil in them waters. Drilling is a short-term solution at best. But imagine if we began conserving and really developing alternative fuels 10 years ago?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:12 PM on 07/18/2008

No difference because the speculators are propping the price up at twice what oil industry analysts believe it should be on suppy and demand fundamentals.

I think you mean:

What if REAGAN had kept Jimmy Carter's sensible energy policy in place, RAISED CAFE standards instead of lowering them, had left the solar panels on the Whitehouse, had not declared that SUVs used for hauling PEOPLE could avoid _automobile_ regulations for safety and fuel economy... I could go on and on. REAGAN is where these problems really started because at that time the threat was clear and the solution was clear.

AT THAT TIME we could have made the transition off of oil with ZERO negative impact on our economy. It was EIGHT years of the idiot Reagan, followed by FOUR of Bush I - TWELVE YEARS in all of absolute idiocy in policy. And YOU blame it on Clinton.

OK, not everything Clinton did was good for us - China MFN and NAFTA as the two largest blunders - but not drilling was SMART.

No we'd be in a worse mess, having used up all the available oil in our offshore areas and STILL have to rely on foreign oil. Wake up and smell the Starbucks closing.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:16 PM on 07/18/2008

How much oil do you think the US has (or potentially has)? We might not be in this mess at this very moment, but in a year or two from now. The point is, what should we do right now? More drilling isn't the answer. Oil is not a renewable resource. It takes a very very long time to make oil, and there is only a limited supply of it. I know it's going to be hard, but we have to kick the habit. We have no choice.

No one expects Cindy Sheehan to gain leadership on some committee. It is the removal of Nancy Pelosi that matters.

Nancy Pelosi is one of the most compromised people in our entire government.
The Pelosi situation is so obvious that It shouldnt even need to be explained by this point.
The political necessity for her removal is paramount. If you dont understand it by this point,
you are one of two things.

1) working for Pelosi and attempting to stem the tide that is growing for her removal.

2) Too stupid to understand real political strategy.

Nancy Pelosi's goal was NEVER to let real pro constitution progressives have any input in the democratic party. Her goal was to coopt the progressive message to get DINO's reelected in 2006, then subsequently betray every goal progressives had, in an attempt to destroy the movement through demoralization. Pelosi and her crime partners understood that progressives were and are becoming a larger political force. She always intended to destroy this movement and her actions over the last two years are your proof. That progressives still stand after all the self inflected defeats courtesy of Nancy Pelosi, is a testament to the will of the people for a lawful democracy.

Nancy Pelosi your time is gonna come.

People fail to recognize that the political climate makes the politician much more than an individual politician can affect the political climate. Pelosi with Boosh in the white house needs to lead one way but with 0bama in the white house the situation will be totally different. I'm not saying that Pelosi has done all she can or that we don't need new leadership, but she has done a better job than most people give her credit based on the circumstances. Sorry but I would not vote for Cindy Sheehan because she would just weaken the party in the long run for some kind of protest vote.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:47 PM on 07/18/2008

Riiight, what with how wildly popular Boosh and the Republic Party are, she must be very careful not to try to make Congress a co-equal branch of government. After all, she might upset the Unitary President and his band of criminals! Better stick to trying to figure out how to blow the next election!

Well put.

(I think you meant; "Nancy, your time has PASSED.")

Yes, we need to remove her. Unfortunately, Shirley Golub failed to win the Democratic Primary with only about 11% of the vote. However, Shirley had NO war chest to speak of, zero name recognition, was only able to buy ONE ad, and only got mentioned in the newspaper - a small circulation rag - once, two days before the election.

Now, in this falls election, we're working once more to unseat Nancy. It will be hard, but we have a candidate with name recognition: Cindy Sheehan, "Peace Mom", who camped out in Crawford, TX, three years ago, trying to get Bush to pay attention. ... Cindy doesn't have a big war chest yet, but it's growing, and it's EXCLUSIVELY funded from individuals like us - no corporate donations whatsoever. Cindy's list of endorsements is growing and the moment she's officially on the ballot (in a couple of weeks), she'll be announcing a good handful of important endorsements. Cindy just reported her donations this week - just shy of $250K - not a lot against Nancy's personal millions, but a good start for a campaign that really hasn't even officially begun yet.

Please help Cindy buy lots of air time! Donate generously at CindyForCongress.org

And, if you're in California's 8th district - nearly all of San Francisco - be sure to sign up to help her get on the ballot. (You can download a petition from the website to sign

(2nd attempt at reply on this - system's having troubles today!)

Thank you for this lucid post.

Right on all points.

Cindy will caucus with the Dems - she is a "true Democrat" - what Dems were before the DLC, but she bristles at the BlueDogs, etc. Cindy has a great labor-oriented platform. She's for the people. Her web site doesn't say a lot right now but that will change - she's focused on getting the last thousand or so signatures to be on the ballot. So, if you go to her site, be sure to look under labor for a good handful of position papers.

Meanwhile, Nancy will win if we don't get Cindy a big enough war chest to do advertising. After all, Nancy is rich and has no problem getting free advertising from the MSM. Cindy, however, is counting on YOU!

Please donate generously to Cindy's campaign: CindyForCongress.org

I would say we have 1.3 oil men in the white house. When Bush owned the oil company that daddy gave him, he couldn't find oil in Texas. He is about as much of an oil man as he is a cowboy.... being afraid of horses as he is and renting his cattle.

Nancy Pelosi is a total nitwit. She is the one blocking legislation to drill in our own country for our own oil which would bring up the world supply and bring down the price.

Actually, spending less of our money, living less on credit, manufacturing more products here in the US instead of importing would all help to bring the price of oil down. If there's less demand, then the cost lowers. It's not the White House's problem. They can only do so much. The real power is in the American public's hands.

The ironic part is that we have already lowered our demand for oil by 500K barrels a day, so just by being smarter we have eclipsed what we could get in offshore oil drilling. With no risk to the environment. Go figure.

If the need for more oil is such a pressing national security concern, then the gov't should acquire the oil companies (for the sake of protecting our homeland). We can use the windfall profits to speed the development of alternative energies and force people to conserve.

Wonderful job Ms. "Impeachment is off the table". BLAME them. Why not be a REAL woman, step up to the plate and take responsibility for allowing this to continue. YOU took impeachment off the table. YOU let them continue to run this country into the ground. YOU are responsible for this mess as much as they are. YOU were elected and YOU did NOTHING. How dare you?! You should be ashamed of yourself.

Many of us have known for a very long time about the 'two oil men' and we trusted that when the Dems got the majority that they would do what was necessary to end the war, end the stealing, end all that this administration has done to destroy our country AND THE CONSTITUTION. YOU did nothing. And NOW you blame the 'two oil men'. Take a look in the mirror Nancy. YOU are part of the problem. I just pray the people in CA understand that and vote you OUT.

Impeach Pelosi...and the Bush Administration.

It is true that the two oil men in the white house have much to answer for. But so too do the few hundred democrats in congress who have capitulated repeatedly to these two criminals. I am guessing at this point they had to vote for the FISA 'update' to help cover their own complicity in the illegal wiretapping. And Pelosi really should not be pointing fingers after taking impeachment off the table. It is the people's remedy for high crimes and misdemeanors she had no right to take that away. She might want to take a fresh look at the document she swore an oath to.

I think that's a huge mis-read of D perceptions.

D's EXPECT the Rs to be the dirtbags and do evil, avaricious things, so it should be a given that they're to blame in anything they have any hand in. The Ds expect better of other Ds, and so they complain more loudly and more often, and with good cause.

...Meanwhile, I STILL say Nancy has to be removed. Please help Cindy Sheehan!

The Reps are largely to blame, but the Dems definitely did not make conservation/energy independence a major priority. I am just glad that people seem to be waking up to the "crisis." I guess it takes $4+ a gallon of gas for people to actually want to do something. It still astonishes me that GW refuses to at least encourage conservation.

105 in the house, 35 in the senate - NOT hundreds.

Nationally, we only need to remove 140 DINOs from the Dem ranks - replaced by real Dems - to have our party back. That's well less than half. (There are presently 145 non DINOs, at last count.)

(BTW, I'm using the latest FISA vote as the basis for determining who's in and who's out.)

Wow, it's downright humiliating to be a democrat these days. Gas should cost more, Ms. Pelosi. It is not a renewable energy source. With the tax we fund mass transit and alternative fuel that doesn't require food to be put in an engine. It only takes will. Will that none of you seem to have. Arghhh
