CNN:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke: "Two oil men were in the White House . . ."

Too bad it's not _only_ a joke.

Sure glad we only rely on 'foreigners' for 80% of our oil. With our own drilling it would go down to, say , 60%, which is much worse. And with all other sources of energy 5-10 years off, OR MORE, oil would be a bad choice to fill the gap. 160 million autos, 250,000 planes, 40 million homes, countless businesses, etc ,etc, pretty much our whole way of life relying on GAS, OIL,and COAL, we can convert all of them to wind, solar, nuclear, or Hydrogen overnite, right? In the meantime, what will we use?

Oh, that's right, according to the DEM leadership......... foreign OIL What we use NOW. I get it..........

Republicans and facts just don't mix do they?

We use 20MM barrels of oil a day. Which means we import 16MM barrels a day. Even if you use the absurd highest estimates new offshore drill will give us 500K more barrels a day after 10 years. Add the absurd assumption that we can maintain our domestic supply at the same rate for 10 years. Assume 100% of that oil is purchased domestically, even though it is more expensive to pump than importing Canadian oil.

Therefore based on the most optimistic assumptions possible our demand for foreign oil would drop from 80% to 77.5%.

Now I'm sure that's great news for you but any thinking person would see the flaw in your argument.

I think reducing foreign oil imports by 2.5% would be a Good Thing. Especially if the jobs created went to loyal Democratic-voting union workers.

And I missed what? If demand drops 2.5% and we begin tapping our own oil (a.k.a. supply) I think that helps. You know, it's called supply AND demand.

You proposed no alternative energy to replace petroleum products. If they aren't immediately workable then we need more of our own or more of our enemies. Unless you prefer an economic meltdown.

Let's drill, build nuclear plants (known to be both safe and efficient), develop alternatives (solar, wind, etc.) until we do not need to use fossil fuels. What do you think?

The only problem is that any softening support among independent voters that 0bama has been experiencing in the last couple of weeks is because many of these independent voters are low information voters who think drilling is a no brainer, because they don't want to use their brains.

Face it any independent voters at this point is a conservative who does not want to associate with the damaged Republican brand, what I call the Lou Dobbs types or they are dumb as a stump and don't see the obvious choice this election, 0bama.

So Pelosi, what's you gonna do about it?

You're supposed to impeach bush and Cheney.

At least that what the constitution and people say.

I guess that just doesn't matter to you.

The WORLD is Watching

Nancy is right, the oil companies have many acreage at their disposal to drill for oil ( if they really wanted to do so). It would require them to spend some of their PROFITS to fund the drilling . Oil from shale takes along time and is expensive . The Oil companies want them oil they can get to easy.,like just walking outside comes a bubbling crude, oil that is, Texas tea.

If our supply was critically low, dont you think the oil comp0anies should be using what they already have??? At least, I think so.

The World is watching

Patriotism is impeaching George Bush and his gang that cant shoot straight. If Nancy Pelosi wont put Impeachment back on the table and VOTE for it, she sho9uld be impeached.

Enough of the criminals running the asylum.

Bush has politicized every department of the Federal government, why do any of you report the PROPAGANDA that Bush spews. Everything is made up and part of his perpetual network of lies.

We have Bush and his gang who cant shoot straight, to rape the USA of its natural resource, name image and respect.

Where does USA go to get its name , image, respect and honor back??

The WORLD is watching

The facts on offshore drilling.

-Oil companies have millions of acres of oil leases with proven oil reserves and are not drilling on them yet.
-It will take 8 years to get the first drop of oil from new oil leases and pumping will peak at only about 300,000 barrels/day which is a fraction of the global oil production.
-The oil will not be exclusively used in the US it will go on the world markets.
-If we have a president who has a comprehensive energy plan, our need for oil will drop drastically in 8 years.
-Worse of all the total oil the US can drill makes up less than 2% of the global oil reserves and that includes drilling in ANWR.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves

The bottom line is we need more wind energy, solar energy, more renewable energy sources and an alternate energy source like Hydrogen to make any sustainable reductions in energy prices.

The facts on offshore drilling.

-The oil companies have millions of acres and will drill where it is likely to be profitable.
-Great, in 8 years we can count on being in better shape than today.
-The oil sold overseas will pump dollars into our economy not someone elses.
-You had Clinton and Gore for eight. What was their comprehensive energy plan?
-Who cares what percentage of global oil reserves our production is? It's ours.

The bottom line... wind and solar are insufficient energy producers otherwise they'd be in greater use. No adequate energy source has yet been developed and until then we'd better find and develop them. While aggressively taking advantage of what we have.

Facts:

Oil companies are today multinationals that pay the US next to nothing - and what money they rake in doesn't necessarily go into our economy.

Oil companies pay CHUMP CHANGE for the oil leases and take the oil for effectively just the cost of taking it out of the ground - even though it belongs to the citizens of the United States.

Oil companies are not presently limited in what they can charge us, so as the global price of oil rises, they can use that rise to charge the U.S. consumer whatever the world price is - even though it's OUR OIL, not theirs.

We MUST change these facts.

Wind power has just taken a leap forward here in Texas. Japan produces the majority of the world's solar power, circa 48%. Solar technologies have only been improving in efficiency.

Oil sold overseas only pumps money into the pockets of the oil companies, not We The People.

Being energy independent is a matter of national security, oil company profiteering be damned.

Past time to stop swallowing the oil industry corporatist propaganda and get serious about energy conservation, efficiency, and independence.

LOL you just showed you absolute ignorance.

"wind and solar are insufficient energy producers"

Solar energy powers wind energy and the sun powered the life that gave us coal, most natural gas and oil.

Solar energy is the root source of almost all power on this planet. Harnessing the suns energy through solar power and wind are just technological advancements we have not made yet because we have been spending over a trillion dollars a year on fossil fuels to keep us going. This is what I'm talking about with low information voters.

Its a shame Nancy Pelosi was the one to say this, because now no one will believe its true.
I dont know many people in public life who's words can be trusted less than Nancy Pelosi.

Do whatever is in your power to make sure Pelosi is voted out of congress.
Any chance in hell of a progressive agenda even being an option, let alone reality depends on it.

Note, after explaining that she wants oil companies to take advantage of the millions of acres open to them to drill -- just not give them precious allotments on top of what they have -- and CNN follows that with the statement that Pelosi maintains her opposition to more drilling. She's not opposing MORE DRILLING she's FAVORS more drilling in the millions of acres as yet untapped and approved. CNN sins yet again.

Do you have a single link that shows that there are significant reserves on that land?

BTW, those acres are set aside for exploration and not drilling meaning it could take another 5-10 years for anyone to approve drilling.

If she wanted to allow drilling here is the solution, we'll exchange the leases you currently have for the new leases with proven reserves on them.

The real question is does that land prove profitable? If it doesn't they won't drill which is probably why they want to get to the reserves that are proven.
