CNN:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday blamed the "two oil men in the White House," President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and their Republican allies in Congress for gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said multiple initiatives intended to lower high energy costs have passed the Democratically controlled House only to "run into a brick wall" in the Senate because they did not receive the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters.

I get tired of people blaming Pelosi and congress for everything when the white house the Rethuglicans in congress including McBush has caused all our problems. All the good legislation that congress has tried to pass either does not make it to a vote in the senate or is vetoed by Boosh, like the SCHIP program vetoed by Boosh, timetables for withdrawal from Iraq that were vetoed by Boosh, ban on water boarding vetoed by Boosh, NIH increase vetoed by Boosh, Boosh vetoed stem cell research, equal pay for equal work dying in the Senate, amendments to exclude immunity in the FISA bill dying in the Senate, equal pay for equal work dying in the Senate and Senate Republicans block bill to stem climate change.

In fact congress has only been able to pass the new GI Bill and Medicare Bill because they had veto proof majorities.

The Democrats are brining forth the legislation, the Rethuglicans are blocking it. Blaming the Democrats for everything is just playing into the hands of the right wing.

Why Lifting The Offshore Oil Ban Won't Help Gas Prices
July17, 2008

Excerpt:
In the first four months of this year, our oil exports were equivalent to 9 percent of total refining capacity. Because facilities were running at only 85 percent of capacity during that period, the actual percentage of refined fuel is greater. Moreover, April's gasoline exports were the most for any April since 1945, "when America was sending fuel overseas to ease supply shortages in other countries during World War II.

A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petroleum products were exported during the first four months of this year, up 33 percent from 1.2 million barrels a day over the same period in 2007. Shipments this February topped 1.8 million barrels a day for the first time during any month, according to final numbers from the Energy Department...

U.S. gasoline exports to Canada skyrocketed to 41,000 barrels in January-April this year from 9,000 barrels in 2007.
So what is it, exactly, that we are exporting? According to Forbes, here are the data for April 2008:

387,000 barrels per day of diesel fuel, an almost seven-fold increase compared to April 2007;
202,000 barrels a day of gasoline; and
377,000 barrels per day of residual fuel exports, "up 10 percent from 344,000 barrels per day a year earlier."

Great points. Also Americans are using 500,000 less barrels of oil less a day because of conservation which explains these increased exports. So if we get the extra 300,000 barrels a day all this drilling gets us we will not even need it domestically.

Of course lifting the ban won't help prices. Record profits are creating record prices. Is that relationship just too obvious for people to grok?

I understand the impeachment process. And I realize the votes to impeach were perhaps not there. And I firmly believe that if the Speaker had supported impeachment hearings, and we had them, this nation would better off today. I would like to see the Speaker of the House replaced.

I absolutely disagree with those who say impeachment wouldn't result in conviction.

While there are not enough Ds do to it alone, a good public airing of the THIRTY FIVE articles against Jr would surely put the fear of not being reelected in EVERY R in the senate...

Anyone who says "there weren't the votes" is a political idiot.

During her interview with Blitzer she said she was against impeahment before the 2006 election.
Well if she had said that before the election she wouldn't have been put in as Speaker.
She is just lying about it to save face.
But that wont work for Pelosi, history will hold her to account for not stopping busH.

The solution: 1. Just drill more, everywhere; 2.The dollar would rise as we would not be shipping so much to the Islamists states. 3. Create a Hydrogen or Battery car in 10 years 4. More Nuclear power at least what France has, open Yucca Mountain; 5. One half of all profits of new oil leases go to fund health care that is private , such as HMO, not government Canada type. 6. New Nuclear power stations, 10% of profits fund vouchers for poor blacks and hispanics, and all who are at 110% poverty level or less. This plan works, no more ideologue dummys on this website who drink cool aid, democrat or republican. We are americans, no more whiners, just solve problems.

True, but he is a major oil speculator. He cleaned up twice on going long oil and shorting it. Has tried again. He is long now (and about ready to short)... He also supports more drilling. he also wants Tax credits for his wind projects/free fed land usage and his natural gas project does require more drilling.

He is the major person who funded he Swfit Boat attacks on Kerry also.

Boone will sell his mother and yours to turn a buck. Does not mean his trying to get richer on wind farms is a bad thing... but its not about the Environment or the U.S.,... its just about the Money! Welcome to Texas Oilmen.. there are no honest ones..

Regards

Anyone who buys the line that T. Nose Pickins is an "oilman" is an idiot. He's a greenamailer and middleman - nothing more. And he doesn't give a hoot about how the average person is suffering with high gas prices - he just wants a bigger piece of the action while being hailed by the simpletons as some heroic oilman. Hehehehehe.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:51 PM on 07/18/2008

You have to look at which particular "ax" Pickens has to grind. Look at who his is, and some recent developments.

Who is he? - T. Boone Pickens, founder and chairman, BP Capital Management"

In 2004, Pickens contributed to 527 Republican groups, including a $3 million contribution to the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth attacking B ush's rival, John K erry, and $2.5 million to the Progress for America advocacy group

He is simply trying to leverage all the energy revenue produced in the US. Of course he is promoting alternative energy - so his company can control that also.

The quote is actually, "We can't drill our way out of this problem" I agree, drilling by itself is not the answer.

We must ask ourselves though, is the answer making people like him rich?

Why isn't bush releasing the strategic oil reserve? If you really need more oil right now, what the hell is he waiting for?

Do you even know what kind of health care we have up here? Can you explain it before you reject it?

Other than that, i think the rest of your proposals are good ones.

You could drill all you want around the US and we still have less than 2% of the worlds oil reserves. Than you know what happens to that oil it goes on the world market. People also realize that oil coming from offshore costs and AK costs much more to drill that taking oil from the middle east. That's why oil companies are not drilling offshore where they already have leases. Worse of all with the stronger hurricanes we have been getting insurance for these oil rigs are incredibly high. The stupic American people are buying into the drill BS when any reasonable person would say it's too little too late and not worth the risks.

"The stupic American people are buying into the drill BS when any reasonable person would say it's too little too late and not worth the risks."

Any reasonable person would agree that it isn't going to dramatically help gas prices. But any prudent person would also agree that securing some domestic reserves that could be tapped in the time of great need probably isn't a bad idea. No matter how "stupic" you think we are.

She's talking about drilling not the criminal manipulation of Oil on the Futures Market..!

This woman cannot be trusted, she is misdirecting her fellow Americans as to the main cause for most of this price increase...the Futures Market Speculation and deregulation, which Bush and Cheney are only partially responsible for though they certainly support it...

Goldman Sachs has bought off most of our politicians they are the single biggest group of contributors to Barack Obama and possibly Pelosi too, so there is little hope for the American people to see relief from this huge Criminal Scam the biggest swindle of all time....these rip off Oil and Gas prices...
