Health Care For America Now, which is a "national grassroots campaign organizing millions of Americans to win a guarantee of quality, affordable health care for all" has been joined in their fight by Public Service Administration - the satirists who last made news when they explored the colorful depths of John McCain's vocabulary. The result of their collaboration? "Insurance Company Rules," which re-imagines what the world would be like if we all lived our lives the way health insurance companies do. As you might imagine, that world would be indescribably hilarious if it weren't so awful.

Their video debuted at Netroot Nations this afternoon, and now, you can catch it here!

I love this ad and the guys who are behind it. I sat there, laughing and cheering and saw it again and again. Doctors and other healthcare workers, AMA, you seeing this?, should focus on one item: overriding vetoes. Insurance companies do not go by rules, they do not honor contracts, they are for (their own and shareholders') profit and their company *policies* set the rules, which can not be changed by providers (doctors and healthcare workers) who do the work, and patients, who pay the insurance premiums, and corporations too, when they have deals with insurers for the benefit of their employees. We have seen just this week, that when doctors, patients and our representatives (government) decide not to cut reimbursement to physicians, and the head honcho *vetoes* that, that veto can be overridden. We can do nothing about the health insurance czars' decisions. Doctors are their employees now, as are pharmacists, who are employees of jcpenney and walmart - it used to be a profession, anyone remember that? My doctor prescribes medication and the pharmaceutical company and insurers say, no way! You take THAT instead. My doctor proscribes a procedure, and the insurer says, no way jose! Paperpushers rule over professionals and patients. I want professionals treating me and having a voice in how my healthcare dollar is spent.

Great, but they are selling out by not addressing the REAL problem, the greed-driven private insurance companies at the heart of our system. If we want REAL change, and truly universal health care, we need single payer, public, universal health care. It is the only way we are going to fix our system. The HCAN plan is better than what we have now, but it gives up on real change before we even begin:

Let's expand Medicare For All. Private insurance companies are free to compete with it.

How about lets eliminate the lobby that the private companies and medicare do and then let them compete.

are you aware that the two largest ,mortgage loan companies are now asking for a loan from the american people?

Right on!! This is one of the reasons the federal government should be in charge of health insurance just like it is in charge of Medicare. Medicare has been around for over 40 years and it works BECAUSE PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPAINES DO NOT CONTROL IT.

A federal government agency in charge is the only way to go!

That's great, HCAN, too bad you guys don't support single-payer health care access :(
