No Blacks, Mongolians Allowed At Beijing Bars: Report

Hong Kong's English newspaper The South China Morning Post reported Friday that Chinese authorities have issued a secret ban on blacks, Mongolians and other "social undesirables" from Beijing's bars during the Olympics.

As the content on South China Morning Post's site is for subscribers only, here is an excerpt of the article c/o the Beijing drinking blog Beijing Boyce:

Beijing authorities are secretly planning to ban black people and others it considers social undesirables from entering the city's bars during the Olympic Games, a move that would contradict the official slogan, "One World, One Dream".

Bar owners near the Workers' Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises....

Security officials are targeting Sanlitun, which Olympic organisers expect to be a key destination for foreign tourists looking for a party during the Games.

The pledges that Sanlitun bar owners had been instructed to sign agreed to stop a variety of activities in their establishments, including dancing and serving customers with black skin, they said.

China's preeminent English-language media analysis site Danwei didn't lend credence to the SMCP report, calling the high-level ban "unlikely." However Jeremy Goldkorn writes on Danwei that "it is highly plausible that some low level cops have issued such instructions, especially with the current state of high alert in Beijing making officials and government agencies paranoid and very nervous about foreigners."

Further investigation by Beijing Boyce, who interviewed Beijing bar owners on the alleged ban, found that low-level Beijing cops have been visiting the capital city's watering holes and warning owners and employees to keep their eye on black patrons. According to an update Saturday on Beijing Boyce:

An owner said police met with Sanlitun bar reps and told them to monitor black patrons. He said the police told the reps that drug dealers are predominantly black in the area. He said the police did not ask bar owners to ban blacks.

funny this is coming to light now because i got a mate over in bejing at the moment working for AP as a photographer and he said this would be in the offing and so here it is. he says chinese in general don't care for blacks (shocking) and he wouldn't be surprised if athletes of colour were met with special treatment from local coppers. says he sees it on a weekly basis...africans and other non chinese get the business from the powers that be.

this has nothing to do with "african americans", this is about blacks and mongolian ethnics in china. if you have no idea who those people are then you don't know about chinese history and should just stop reading about this right now because you will get wrong impression of what is going on there. the authorities there are trying to make sure their ethnic blacks and mongols don't interact with foreign tourists during the olympics because in china they are the primary ethnics who are drug dealers and proponents of other shady criminal activities that the chinese would deem embarassing if foreign tourists left china with the impression of drugs and criminals.

here is the truth.does the place "TINNAMEN SQUARE" ring a bell? does anyone remember what happened in china 3 weeks before Tinnamen square". chinese students had rioted for months in order to get the chinese government to throw all black african students out of china.female chinese students were going crazy over those black students. they fought each other to get black boyfriends (guess why?) the male chinese students forced a showdown with the chinese government and the chinese government backed down and threw all black african students out of china. the world news networks never even picked up on this because who really gives a damn about black african students. when tinnamen square happened a few weeks later the government had to save face...they could not back down and give in to those students demands again.so this time the tanks rolled over the chinese troublemakers. and now...to paraphrase walter winchell...you have heard the rest of the story. china is a racist country period....and there will be racial incidents all throughout the olympics.

I think it would be useful to be black have a hidden camera and check out these bars to see if it is really true and posted on you tube....all before the onlympics and black patrons go there to spend their money on no service. There appears to be a well-coordinated attempt to smear and undermine China in the court of world public opinion - i.e. the flood of stories about "unsafe" and "sub-standard" USA imports from China, "Free Tibet" demonstrations during the olympic torch ceremonies, and now this... BTW, the Chinese word for "hacker" (as in computer hacker) is hei-ke, which literally means "black guest." In this case, they attempt to duplicate the sound of "hacker" and also lend it meaning in Chinese.

I have no idea how true this is, but considering some of the other well-documented things Chinese officials, particularly lower level bureaucrats and law officials, it rings true.
