Monday morning on Fox News' "Happening Now," after US Olympic softball team star Jennie Finch made an appearance to discuss the upcoming Olympic Games, co-anchor Jane Skinner made a remark you could only expect on Fox News:

"How cute is she?," Skinner asked, to which her co-host Jon Scott responded, "Very." Skinner then continued, "A great representative: blond, blue-eyed, and extremely talented."

Most of the comments for this post are inane. They are also amusing given that the only ones ranting about how terrible it is to be blond & blue, are those who aren't. The Fox commentator expressed a personal choice; we all do that, consciously and subconsciously. I can't stand Fox's right tilt any more than the others here but what's with the anti-blond/blue rant? As to the commentator, do the on-air personalities have to be PC all the time? Why? What's the point of living in such a bland world where everyone is viewed as "the same," and personal preferences are hidden? I consider that to be very boring but, worse than that, painfully artificial. Much of Europe and all of Scandinavia is blond and blue. Get over it. The U.S. has substantial populations of blond/blue European immigrants although I suspect that most of the posters on this are from urban environments in the eastern U.S. where people all look alike with their dark hair and eyes and they don't realize that we still have millions of people in other parts of the country who aren't very different from their blond & blue ancestors. Focus on important issues such as helping to get young people to vote this Fall as they typically get excited in the Spring then fail to vote in the Fall.

Giving people the basics without prejudice is what they need. The truth, that's all. Anyone can be a good representative as you said, so why do we have to take it to the degree of implicating why she makes a good representative as if being blond and blue eyed is the reason. If most people were made to keep their original hair colors and eyes, have the blonds now wouldn't be either when the lenses come out too. We put to much on looks in this country and it's hurting our kids as well as other races.

I agree with a lot of what you said. We do place far to much value on outward appearance. My daughter is coming of age and I struggle daily with how to guide her away from that. It concerns me that she will somehow that her value as a person will be defined by her outward appearnce.

I disagree that the anchor was stating that the reason she was a good representative was that she was blonde and blue eyed. I can't see that as a being the meaning behind what she was saying. She said she was cute and pointed her very cute blond hair and blue eyes. I think it is a little much to assume she meant that all other colors of hair and eyes were less desirable.
