Fox News Anchor Jane Skinner On Jennie Finch, US Olympic Softball Player: "How Cute Is She? Great Representative: Blond, Blue Eyed"

Monday morning on Fox News' "Happening Now," after US Olympic softball team star Jennie Finch made an appearance to discuss the upcoming Olympic Games, co-anchor Jane Skinner made a remark you could only expect on Fox News:

"How cute is she?," Skinner asked, to which her co-host Jon Scott responded, "Very." Skinner then continued, "A great representative: blond, blue-eyed, and extremely talented."

But it's not just about her personal preference, historically in our country blond hair and blue eyes have been the standard for what it means to be "all-American" or "the girl next door". You can't even really blame her, as a society we've been conditioned to think that these characteristics are the most ideal in terms of physical beauty.

I don't agree. It's just another example of how those at Fox consider all things good / beautiful = caucasian / blond / blue-eyed. I happen to be blond & blue-eyed but despise Fox's arrogance, smugness and racism. It runs through everything they say and do. She should keep her personal preference to herself - as if we're interested in what she thinks anyway!

If Fox feels that looks are the qualification for the better softball representative, and politics is more important than sports, it would stand to reason that Fox should support the more attractive candidate. While Obama may be no poster boy, McCain just looks old and wornout. That would mean that Obama is the better representative, politically speaking.

Jennie Finch is from my part of the country (SW Virginia) and I can tell you that everyone here is very proud of her. We're just as proud of all of our athletes, male, female, or any skin, hair or eye color. It's about ability and achievement; not appearance.

Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi was a gold medal winner for the USA, but she didn't get anywhere near the endorsement deals of the "American-looking" athletes. I wonder why?
