The AP reports that Barack Obama reversed a two-month downward trend by raising more and spending less. He took in $52 million in June, more than twice the nearly $21.5 million raised by John McCain. Obama had $72 million cash on hand to McCain's $27 million.

The Politico points out that Obama raised $25 million on the last day of June alone:

His one-day haul represents nearly half of his monthly total and more than Republican rival John McCain generated for the entire month. During the month, McCain did not have a single day in which he raised a million dollars.

But, the Politico explains, McCain isn't Obama's real competition:

It also is the minimum the Illinois senator will need to generate each month between now and November if he is to match the more than $200 million budget the Republicans have set for boosting McCain's campaign.

The true competitor to Obama will be the Republican National Committee, rather than McCain, who has agreed to accept about $84 million in public financing for his general election campaign.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, loaned herself another $1 million after leaving the race. The Washington Post details:

Clinton raised just $2.7 million in June and finished the month with $25.2 million in campaign debt, most of that, $13.175 million, owed to Clinton herself, according to her report to the FEC. She has said she will seek to repay the campaign's debts to others before paying herself back. Campaign vendors awaiting payment included the firm of strategist Mark Penn, owed $5.3 million, and the Dewey Square Group, owed $236,000.

The campaign also owed local firms in states such as Pennsylvania and Indiana, where Clinton fought in late, competitive primaries. She owed nearly $1,800 to Kokomo Center Schools in Indiana, for instance, and nearly $6,000 to Dakota Pizza in Wynnwood, Pa.

To the tr0lls that were having a laugh over the reports of his campaign's premature demise due to slow fund raising, I have just one thing to say:

In your face.

That goes double to all of those alleged "supporters" who blew their tops over FISA as well. No "special interest" group is going to extort Obama and influence his positions with threats of withholding funding. Obama has a policy of doing what is best for the whole Country. We need that in a leader--beholden to no group, including banded together "supporters" on the extreme left.

All of you fairweather (FISA only) supporters should take note of this report. You threatened doom and failure for Obama's campaign because you did not get your way on his vote for the revised FISA bill. BTW, unless Obama were your own state senator, you had no right to whine about his vote, and certainly not to try and derail his candidacy over it. I'm off to donate again to the Obama campaign. Obama '08 Yes WE Can!!!

You must have a FISA stuck in your throat. Is that a key word or something, because every other word is FISA this FISA that. What 's the deal with you apart of operation chaos craziness and your mission is to bring this up.

"campaign losses"?

What, did she have a bad night at black jack?

What is wrong with her supporters (that are still hanging around in the background - you know, just in case!!) helping her pay off her debt?

Sorry, but I am busy trying to help my candidate win the GE and every penny I can afford goes towards him - why should I cut back my $$ to my candidate to help pay off the loser's debt?

Probably made the decision to lease a new plane that much easier.

Did anyone else notice that the BO campaign had the good financial sense to lease a plane instead of buying one like McMoneybags?

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-trailplane1-2008jul01,0,345095.story

July 1, 2008

No one cracked a bottle of champagne on its nose. No one cut a ribbon. Perhaps that was because the maiden voyage of John McCain's new campaign plane was missing one vital ingredient: the senator himself.

On Monday morning, his new 95-seat Boeing 737-400 left Washington with journalists and staffers, heading for Harrisburg, Pa., where the candidate had spent the night. The plane, bought by the campaign, has been refurbished to create an airborne version of the homey Straight Talk Express bus, McCain's signature campaign vehicle.

There is one thing McCain will miss about his old plane, a leased JetBlue aircraft -- and he'll be feeling the loss today, as he's scheduled to fly from Indianapolis to Cartagena, Colombia, with a stop in Mexico.

"In interest of full disclosure," said McCain, "you know, we used to have television sets on JetBlue, and I miss out on my fix, particularly when we're on these long flights like we're going on."

This explains so very much. It seems that McCain spends any "downtime" in the air watching reruns instead of with briefing books -- much in the way that he barely cracked the covers on flight safety manuals during his aviator days.

The Clintons want us to help her pay off her PIZZA BILL??!!?? Jeeeeeezzzzz-US! This is absurd. Let them pay all of it out of their own bank account. And then let them go away and stay there.

This is ridiculous. She gambled and she lost. Time for the Clintons to take responsibility for their own bad choices.

"She gambled and she lost."

And therein lies the issue in a nutshell. What self-respecting competitor would expect to be bailed out?

Clearly the polls are useless and serve no purpose, when they show Obama and McCain not far apart.in popularity . . .The true and ONLY HONEST popularity measure is - - - when so many people are willing to put their money where their hope is.
$52 mil Obama - - - - $21 mil McCain.

I totally agree, it says quite a bit about who the majority are supporting. I could never vote for a man who is unable to remember what bills he voted or did not vote for, who cannot remember statements that he has made and becomes furious when he is reminded that there is a tape of him making these statements. One more thing the man does not now nor has he ever had any respect for women and has absolutely no interest in issues that affect women in particular.

Money didn't help Obama win those very important primaries in Ohio, Pa. and Texas...just to mention a few. He outspent her 4-1 in the latter races, and she prevailed. So when are you 0's gonna realize "money can't buy you love."?

Go to Obama's website and click on the Secondary Gift Shop, which is not connected

to his campaign but does sell t-shirts and campaign items.

You can then order your own goods.

That explains why I got an email at the end of the month saying funding performance was low. Then, the very next day, news stories reported how much he had made. At first I was baffled and a little miffed that he would ask me for more money based on a false premise. But then this story. Whew! No need to be mad.

His one-day haul represents nearly half of his monthly total

I know, I got about a half dozen different emails begging for donations in two days.
Yikes!
