The CW has lifted its ban on Internet streaming of "Gossip Girl."

The network made headlines last spring when it announced it would stop streaming episodes of the buzzworthy soap opera on its Web site. At the time, CW executives described it as an experiment.

The potential viewers that the CW expected to migrate to the TV screen after streaming was stopped simply downloaded the episodes they wanted from P2P file sharing sites and watched them on a computer. Or they DVR'd the repeats. Can't force people to adhere to a telecast schedule any more. Unfortunately, neither the CW nor the show owners can make enough money to stay in business this way.
