I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Last Friday night HuffPost and GQ got together to provide some social lubrication outside the Austin convention center for all the bloggers, journalists, activists and politicians at Netroots Nation. The tequila flowed and so did the barbeque... and a vicious cycle ensued... tequila overload was curbed with barbeque consumption and barbeque overload felt a lot better with more tequila.

See below for photos from the night when much of Washington DC moved to Texas.

The crowd begins to gather.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps Deputy Editor Hainey should actually read GQ and get a few fashion tips!

Did y'all ever walk over to watch the Mexican Free-tailed bat emergence from under the Congress Avenue bridge? The Hilton and Convention Center are right there. It's a very cool natural phenomenon right in the middle of the city.

It's one of the largest bat colonies in the nation. I thought since you lefties are supposed to be interested in such things, you might have checked it out.

If you're still there, just realize that the bats are starting their emergence before sunset right now because of the drought.

Excellent!

Just as an aside, frankly, the bat colony smells very bad, and I think it's great that all the hotels and other businesses around there don't mind because everyone just loves the bats. It's a great example of man coexisting with nature in an urban area.

Don't see a whole lot of diversity in these photos.

I'm sure you'd find a lot more diversity at a Young Republicans convention. There might even be an Episcopalian or two.

Somebody had a cowboy hat on! You would have thought they would have bussed a few people of color in with the promise of BBQ chicken or something. I didn't see any Mexicans either. Maybe they should have had Mexican food.

Netroot Nation does look very pale compared to the general Texas population.

I heard Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are throwing a corruption ball for wingnuts at the GOPers convention. I'm sure you're invited to that one. It's for the McBush/McSame crowd...which you sound like your a devotee of....enjoy your ill gotten gains for now.

Will former Freddie Mac CEO, Jim Johnson be there? You might recall he had to resign from Obama's VP committee due to that whole sweetheart Countrywide mortgage deal.
