Pickens

Wolf Blitzer interviewed T. Boone Pickens about his sudden push for alternative energy today on The Situation Room. The oilman-turned-renewables-pitchman has been the subject of much buzz in the greeen blogosphere, even earning several mentions and high praise from Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope.

Today on TV, though, Pickens sounded a lot more like the oilman, when Blitzer asked him about Senator John McCain's support for offshore drilling. Pickens said he was more aggressive than McCain: "McCain says, OK, off the east and west coasts, I say, east, west coasts and ANWR, get it all."

This comes from the guy who says we can't drill our way out of this problem.

Not only are we going to drill in ANWR, Wolf Blitzer, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York ... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to drill underneath the White House! Yeah!

I think we first need to drill into Pickens' head to see if he has any brains inside of there.

I've met him and would pretty much bet he is considerably brighter than you. He stands behind his convictions win or lose.. what do you do other than type and whine.

1. Today is my first day as a poster, so I don't just go around typing and whining.

2. George W Bush stands by his convictions, win or lose too. He's the worst President in US History. If your convictions are wrong, standing behind them just makes you stubborn, out-of-touch, and a little crazy.

3. I don't care if you've met him, if you believe him, you must be considerably less bright than him and me.

1. I only started posting today, so I don't just type and whine.

2. Standing behind your convictions if you're wrong is just stubborn and dangerous.

3. You don't know me, so feel free NOT to judge my intelligence level.

Oh, the man is bright, alright. But he also has not done a single thing in his life that didn't make him any money. Now, if you are nearly as smart as him, you would see what he really wants: he wants the government to pay for his wind project. Isn't that obvious?

:-)

Why should we listen to this man? I know he has been in this business all his life and very successful at it, but I prefer to follow the lead of brilliance from Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Ed Markey, etc.

I am sure you know the meaning of the phrase

"Please Sir, can I have another?"

You just used it.

Because his plan makes sense. As for the people you have mentioned, even if they did have a plan they have shown a remarkable inability to execute on anything.

Hehe, Pickens is either a fraud, or a snake oil salesman who has hefty investments in one or two "green energies" for "just in case" purposes.

I wouldn't trust him. Especially since everytime, like right now, a hurricane shows up. The gas/oil prices go up. And BIG OIL starts crying about all the oil rigs off the southeast, east and west coasts that were disrupted by the hurricane.

So which lie is it this time? Supply/demand stopped working. The "competition drives down prices" was forced to stop being used when BIG OIL consolidated itself, i.e. no more competiton. And now they wanna use the tired old "environmentalists are stopping us from drilling offshore" while at the same time claiming lost revenue from those same offshore drilling platforms that are being disrupted by Dolly.

Why doesn't the media call out BIG OIL on these lies?

No competition in the oil industry? There are a large number of companies involved in that business, much more than in most sectors of the economy. And why are you surprised when gas and oil prices go up when a hurricane forms in the gulf when there is a large potential of lost production. Remember what Katrina and Rita did? And Pickens has is more than a snake oil salesman. He is really trying to do good for the country and help solve a very serious long term crisis. He's rich and old and doesn't need to make another dime the rest of his life. And he's out investing a billion dollars in wind energy, which may not see substantial returns until after he's already in the ground. Show some respect.

DuganS1, you're right about some things. I was merely pointing out the obscene misinformation campaign that the Oil Companies wage in the media. They say they are being withheld from drilling off the southeast coastline, but as I mentioned, you find out that they are already drilling there whenever a hurricane forms. But nobody "gets it".

As far as the competition in the oil industry, explain this. Why don't the oil companies compete with each other? I can drive down the street and see a BP, Chevron, Conoco and Shell, all have gas at $3.99 a gallon. This is an example, since I haven't gone and paid for gas today, lol, so it might not be $3.99 anymore. But why do they all have the same prices? Why doesn't, say BP, knock theirs down to $3.90, forcing Chevron to say "Oh damn, they bringing in too many customers" and forces them to knock down to $3.89, while Conoco freaks out and knocks down to $3.85 to pack the customers in.

Why don't you see that?

More in next post. :)

Continuation briefly of the competition aspect. Look at Iraq. Rather than letting the oil fields go to the highest bidder, or allowing the IRAQI Govt to decide who can work the oil fields and profit from them......... why did the US Govt divide up the IRAQI oil fields among the big four oil countries?? There's only like 2 American oil companies on the world stage. Shell is Dutch, BP is UK and Total is French.

As far as Pickens, I only know about him from what I've read and his grandiose commercials. He talks about the "greatest transfer of wealth in history", but he doesn't mention the previous transfers which was to his oil companies. Until the wells ran dry in the US, it could dictate what it wanted. Then 1973 rolls around, wells running dry, we help in a war against the OPEC countries and they cut us off. Imagine that. Now the wealth is flowing their way. Unless we occupy them. Right? And that's what it boils down to.

As far as invensting in alternative energies, the oil companies have already done that. That's why we won't see electric cars, wind power or hydrogen fuel cells on a grand scale for another 100+ years. It's called suppressing technology til the current one is used up. ;)

The only thing I know of that he lost at in his life was in being successful at getting Bill Self to leave KU to go back home and coach OSU.

Destin if you were a worker on a rig in the gulf and any major storm came through that could turn into a hurricane i would hope you are intelligent enough to leave. This is what causes the disruption, not damage.

Secondly look at Natural gas prices the past few days since dolly and it has actually puked on itself.

Speak with your head and not out your....

I think the Pickens plan will work, provided that there is sufficient government oversight to keep the project within the greater good. Pickens will make money, and the people of the United States will benefit from it greatly. That's good capitalism and the way it ought to work. It could work... with the right leadership and oversight.
