McCain Explains His Repeated Czechoslovakia Gaffes (VIDEO)

McCain said "Czechoslovakia" instead of the "Czech Republic" at another town hall today. But this time, he caught himself and offered a bit of self-mocking explanation. That makes it the third time in the past three weeks.

"As you know, the Czech Republic and Slovakia split years ago," McCain said with a chuckle. "From time to time some of us misstate and say Czechoslovakia when the fact is, it's the Czech Republic."

"Some of us" could refer to retired senator (and Barack Obama supporter) Sam Nunn, who helpfully made the same gaffe a few days after McCain. But unless Obama picks Nunn for VP, McCain is still alone among office-seekers on this one. Watch the video:

For pete's sake - every single day we need a "McCain tries to explain his __________ gaffe." (Fill in the blank). Sometimes MORE than one a day.

How hopeless can this guy be?

To be fair and independent, if you are going to make fun of McCain's Czechoslovakia remark, then you also got to make fun of Obama's "I been to all 57 states", his "he'll be in the White House 8 to 10 years', and "Israel is a friend of Israel".

Not really a comparison. You can tell Obama obviously misspoke. He graduated from Harvard for God's sake and taught Constitutional Law - I think he knows there are fifty states.
McCain said the same gaffe THREE times. He didn't misspeak. Simply didn't know.

Excuses, excuses, excuses ! I didn't graduate from elitist Harvard, yet I would NEVER say I been to all 57 states. I doubt very many folks would. Or about being in the White House TEN years.......All I'm saying report all gaffes. Only fair.

"To be fair and independent..." (???)

I read comments from your profile and you state that you're an Independent; yet I constantly get the "fair and unbiased" and "fair and independent" comment from many Conservative colleagues whenever I point out articles such as this one. WHY do people feel that any "specific" article MUST (!) include quotes/comments/references from across the spectrum? Do ALL people need to follow the "supposed" FOX News credo "fair and balanced", at all times, even for a SPECIFIC article topic ? I think not!

The article was titled "McCain Explains His Repeated Czechoslavakia Gaffes" and it pointed out HIS gaffes. Now, IF the article was titled something like "Presidential Candidates Continue to Make Gaffes" and ALL the quotes/comments/references were all about McCain ONLY (and NO Obama), THEN I'd see the merit of stating that the article needs to be "fair and unbiased" or "fair and independent". [just one person's perspective]

naaaaaa... let's just hammer mccain into the ground regardless. he deserves it for being such a bush lover when it was PLAINLY OBVIOUS BUSH WAS NOT DOING GOOD BY US.

i say hit mccain hard and often... and harder and more often.

besides... mccain is getting quite well-known for his many gaffes on various subjects. even subjects he claims to be strong on. kinda like his lover boy gee duybyuh...

like i said... hard and often... til he and his party are on their knees where they belong. by the looks of it lately... many of them quite like it there... especially if it's on the cold dirty tile of public restrooms.

hard and often.

How many HOURS were spent going over the name change again, and again, and again, before he finally caught himself?
If that kind of effort will be required to set him straight on all of the issues, his people are in for a very long summer.

This shows precisely why electing such an old guy to the highest office in the land is so dangerous. His thinking is set in concrete. How on earth can anyone expect a man who can't think of new things to deal with a complex and changing international environment? Who is going to mind his mistakes if he's President? Disaster.

His VP.

Who's it going to be, you ask? Mc Ancient will soon announce that he selected someone he once mentored, who will add youth to the ticket, and who understands economics and finance: Alexander Hamilton.

So explain Obama's comment that he's going to have an adminisration for the "next 8 to 10 (TEN) years"? Oh yeah, that and he's been to ALL 57 (FIFTY-SEVEN) states.

Everyone makes an occasional mistake. Only the truly un-gifted make the same mistake over and over again. Were Obama's mistakes things he said once, mistakes that he is fully aware he made? Obviously. McCain makes big, important mistakes every single time he goes behind a podium, and he makes the identical mistake over and over again. It is pretty scary. There is a big difference between growing old and going senile. No one wants to say it, but everyone is wondering, is this man losing it, big time?

It was bad enough when we elected a brain-damaged nut, twice. Now we're going to elect someone who behaves like he's going senile? What's wrong with this picture? The world's only superpower may soon be presided over by someone not in control of his faculties.

Not familiar with that first one, but there were 57 Democratic primaries, which is what he was obviously referring to. He just misspoke. And he only did it once.

It's not like this is regular guy, but a person who has sat on the Foreign Relations Committee, and been a legislator for over 25 years. This is supposed to be what he gets paid for. The Czech Republic has been around since 1992. Also, the first time he said it I am sure a staffer pointed out the mistake, as well as the second time, and so on. . .

Yet, the can't seem to remember what he was reminded of just days ago. THAT is the concern.

So he slaps on a scary smile, says 'my friends' one more time, and we are supposed to let it all pass.

At least this is one candidate who can't say the media was unfair to him when he loses.

This man is chillingly cold. When he smiles, I cringe, and he has the coldest eyes I have ever seen.
